Use a specific tool designed for removing watch band pins. Pins go in and come out in one direction so pay attention to the little arrow on the inside of the bracelet.
Remove as many links as needed, trying to keep it balanced between the two sides. Then replace the final pin(s) linking the bracelet back together.
It sounds complex, but it's pretty simple. Alternatively, you can take it to a jeweler / watch repair shop and they can resize it for you.
I'm using this one since release. still using the first one, there is another one in the pack. really good fitting and touch is very responsive. but this being made of glass, will attract fingerprint.

There are other versions. A slightly cheaper one with a silver buckle. But this is the one I have. It's a bit expensive but it's good quality and is actually water resistant leather.

I wouldn't use Sharpie because they purple over time. These do not. I just used the one I linked so idk how well it will react to fading, but right now I used just a dot on the scratch marks. Although it doesn't match the bezel color exactly, the black mark is less noticeable than the metal showing through on the scratch mark.

I didn't like that those only came with shiny buckles, so I got a separate buckle from them that is closer to the finish on the watch. Here!
You might need a spring bar tool to switch out the buckles, or you might just be able to use a paperclip or something.
