I do the traveler’s notebook system. I bought this cover from Amazon and I have minimal complaints. I think the elastic is a little loose, but it works and if it gets too annoying I can always replace it easily. The cover itself is leather and does mark up, but I like it when my leather does that. I like the look.

I filled the inside with Moleskine Cahier journals, the 3 sets. Only complaint about those is that they don’t seem to sell mixed sets. So they don’t sell a ruled, a dotted, and a blank together in one set, just 3 of one type. They take ink well and are easy to source. I got mine at Target. I put all three in the cover along with a smaller notebook I had kicking around with some additional elastic. Look on YouTube for “Midori traveler journal setup” for tips on how to do that.

I personally like A5 sized journals because they have a good balance of space for writing and overall size, but if that’s too big for you look at Field Notes and find a cover for them. I’ve seen lots of covers for sale for those as well, but found those a bit too small for my needs.

Alternatively you can make your own cover with some leather and an awl to punch holes. Traveler journal covers are just a rectangle of leather with some holes to thread elastic through so if you have the source for some good leather it could be easy to make your own.

Or washi like this that's really wide can make for very interesting elements.

Books like this would also be super helpful is developing a feel to your journal and there is abundance of this stuff out there for free on pages like Pinterest.

The biggest downfall to pencil is it's not permanent, it can so easily be smudged or potentially worn down and you won't be able to read it anymore. However, you could use something like Krylon Spray Fixatif to help preserve it. I mean, there are notebooks and files from decades ago that'd been written in pencil and they're still legible, so if you take care of it, it should be fine.

Don't wait for a particular day or time, start right now!

As for privacy, I'm gonna repeat the advice I gave to someone else. I don't know how old you are, but if you're old enough to make purchases on your own, the company Vaultz makes locking boxes in a bunch of different sizes and they're pretty affordable. You can search on Amazon for "Vaultz lock box." Depending on how many journals you have and the dimensions of the book(s), another option would be a locking bag, the kind companies use for night deposits. Also something you can find on Amazon, I think "locking money bag" should bring up different options. The bag would be easier to hide, you can put it inside your pillow or under your mattress.

This is the one I’m currently using. It’s been pretty good at helping me get out of some spiraling thoughts.

I like this one, too!

One of the most important aspects of a journal is your feeling of security about it. Some might suggest using password protected apps, but I find the act of long form writing helps me process and crystallize my thoughts and emotions. Why not pick yourself up a lock box and put it in a closet or under a bed?

Thanks, I use the Pilot G2 05 (Extra Fine)! To be completely frank, it does take a while to dry on the Leuchtterm paper, so, for me at least, smudging can be a bit of an issue since I'm not the most careful person :)

Thank you! And no worries you'll eventually, and even if it's not a big trip you'll bring memories if you print pics! A saying i like is bring memories, not things

Anyways the notebook as you said is a moleskin, here in Europe they are really easy to find, but I think online you can buy them from everywhere, they are my favourite, I use the flexible pocket sized, with plain white paper, I don't know what it is about their simple design that makes them so unique, plain simil leather cover, white pages with a pocket in the last page this is the Italian Amazon page

Black and Red notebooks are really nice to write in and sturdy as well.

This is the journal I bought. I didn't use the food tracking portion (I'm lazy) or the final mood portion on page two (though I probably should have).
