My first motorcycle had a disc lock and my bike was stolen. I did a lot of research on how to keep a motorcycle safe. Short answer is you can’t. You can help deter theft but not prevent it. Get full insurance so you can replace it when it’s taken. But one way to keep it safe is this: Bully Alarm Lock with Pager - One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WJF7FC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-5CNAbVZCSMM1 it is very sensitive after it activates (I believe it takes about 60 seconds) and the pager is great for when you’re not nearby. But if that pager goes off you typically have 15 seconds before a professional has taken your bike. Will prevent the walk-off thief’s for sure. Thing is indestructible. The lightest tampering will set it off and it is LOUD!

I take my 9 year old son and my wife on my z900. I ended up buying the belt below which helped significantly with the issues you’re talking about. Both love the handles and they can keep their arms pretty relaxed and in a natural position while holding on.

Something like that I assume? Quite honestly, I don't see the point. If he has proper motorcycling boots, it won't be an issue. Hell, my boots are white leather and they still look fine after 3 years. If he isn't wearing proper boots, maybe lead him that direction instead, because it'll look way better and be safer too.

Additionally, you'll have better luck in /r/motorcycles

I have never owned a ZX11, but I buy one these Clymer manuals for every bike I have purchased. They are a fantastic resource. I wouldn't worry about the one review for the manual, the guy just said it doesn't explain wiring diagram well enough. He might be right, but for mechanical stuff, this book is solid.

Here is a link from Clymer's site. I have always purchased mine from Amazon, though.

I found an online download manual for my 440. Looked for a 400 and found this but when I downloaded it, it only listed the kz500. Probably close to identical bikes but not completely sure.

More traditionally, Haynes has a 400/440 manual you can buy on amazon.

For mechanics, I actually got lucky and work with a lot of bike guys. One turned me on to this little shop ran by 1 guy and an assistant. Went there and he told me stories of the 400, 3 different 440s, and the 500 he owned in the past. He basically could work on my bike with his eyes closes. Ask around and look up some lesser known shops. I have also found that factory sales/mechanic shops tend not to touch older bikes like these.

Around here the "bobbin" is called a swingarm spool. And it looks like as long as the spool will go into the hole that the mudguard bolt uses, you can get longer bolts.

Venom makes a stand both front and rear for sport bikes.

This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S

I think I got it off Revzilla when they had a sale.

If you have the toolkit that came with the bike, then there should be one of these. Otherwise, a thin-wall deep-well 16mm socket (double-check the plug size on your bike) like this with an extension should work.
