The tag bases are 32mm exactly (4 studs). Not the OP but I used A 1 3/8ths" bit which comes out at 35mm. It gives a little slack but it's much easier to find than 32mm if you're in the U.S (I had it already a part of a set)

To drill the flat bottom holes you need a type of bit called a Forstner bit. You can use them with a handheld drill but a drill press will get you much better results.

Here's a 32mm bit on Amazon for $5.37 (add-on item shipping): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007G4MVKA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MRmlzbB0EZ1CD'

Next day edit to add: You might not want to buy a 32mm bit as it'll give you a tight fit on the bases which won't make it easy to use. Amazon has a 33mm bit for $8-ish.

I purchase two storage containers off of Amazon that have worked great. I haven't taken pictures of mine yet but if you check out the comments on the Amazon link, someone else posted their pieces in these boxes. They work nicely because they are extra deep and can fit almost all of the characters in a standing position. Amazon link

I use Artbin containers for vehicles, and official minifigure display cases for the figures.

Note that the figure cases I linked aren't the Dimensions ones - for the same price they hold 16 figures instead of 2! They're meant for the polybaggged minifigures, I think, but they work just as well. Most characters can fit in still on the toy tag, although some you have to remove it and tuck the tag behind them.

(The smallest Artbin containers are too small for figures - they fit but you have to remove accessories/hats. And figures seemed to rattle around in the normal ones I use for vehicles - and Skylanders - but they'd still work.)

Stand? Nah, I've got all of Waves 1-7 packed across four of these babies. It's convenient for storage, and it makes the toys a lot easier to carry from place to place, which is starting to happen with some level of frequency. I just barely managed to fit every figure and vehicle I would need to use any ability and access any level or world into a single box, and set the other three to the side. Hopefully there'll be enough room left for a few Wave 7.5 characters when that rolls around.

I would love to hear about wireless options myself, I could never find out that seemed like it would work the way I wanted. I ultimately opted on using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004AGX4YO which is a 32 foot usb repeater that works flawlessly.

The manly tackle box versions: http://amzn.com/B001TH8P1E and http://amzn.com/B000OES590

I have the 3 tray one - it comes with one shallow tray and two deeper ones. The deeper ones fit the vehicles nicely - I don't think the vehicles will fit in the shallow tray, but I honestly haven't tried.

The 4 tray one is the same overall size, it just has 4 shallow trays, no deep ones.

I forget Amazon does targeted advertising, just because I see a link to the manly tackle box version from the pink craft version, doesn't mean everyone will. :-)

Happy too.

They have different sizes and material thickness. Kind of like the regular sandwich ziploc bags vs the freezer kind. The one I linked has a good thickness, where you don’t have to worry about the pieces poking holes or tearing the plastic.

We have been using this. Characters fit on top, vehicles fit in bottom.

Not sure how much will fit once the wave of xmas gifts come in, but it's working for the couple things we have now with plenty of room to spare.
