The reason I went with AMVR over VRCover was because I'd seen that the VR cover facial interface was pretty rigid whereas the AMVR one is more flexible. Still may try the VRCover one at some point but from what I've read the Quest product hasn't been as universally praised as their prior efforts.

I haven't really felt the need for controller straps yet. None of the games I've played have caused the controllers to fly out of my hands or make the battery covers come out. The wrist straps however do suck. There's a set for sale that is very similar to the ones on the PSVR Move controllers and those straps work great so I may give them a go at some point (DeadEye Wrist Straps).

Poor choice of words on my part. With my PC and Rift S my initial investment was all I needed for a satisfying and comfortable experience. I haven't had to do a single mod on my Rift S and it's worked great and felt great out of the box. I definitely paid more for my PC but as far as the headsets by themselves go the Rift S gave me almost everything I could have asked for right out of the box; coming from PSVR the halo design is so much more comfortable for me.

I received my Quest yesterday morning and have had quite a bit of time on it I have a Vive and had the Pro for a few days before I returned it. I am totally happy with it, games are better being tether less and the graphics are pretty good. One of the 10 games and experiences that I have played is notable Apex Construction. Totally cool game and well worth the $30 that it costs.

I did purchase a 10,000 mAh USB C Power Pack from Amazon and a 3 foot USB C to USB C cord. Nice thing also the 3 foot cable will also charge the quest and fits nice in my front pant pockets. USB output on the power supply is important and this one pushes 2.4 amps. When I'm playing while hooked to this thing my power level went from 15% to 25% in around 20 minutes.

I can easily get 7 hours of play time with this iphone 7 plus sized battery pack which is more than I'll play in a day.

I think you have it strapped too tight to your face. I don't get red marks on my face as I have it so it is lightly touching my face. It can move a touch with medium to fast side head movement but that's a tradeoff worth making to not be in pain and it generally bounces back to the sweetspot. If it doesn't, it's a very slightly adjustment.

For the record, when I first got it back during launch week, I did have it fairly tight (like how I would wear my Rift CV1) to make sure it didn't move and after 10-15 minutes I was in pretty big discomfort. Only then did I loosen the straps and saw how much better it was to wear that way.

I think part of it is both the added weight in the front and the face insert material and design. It's not a nice feeling foam.

Another thing to try is to use a headband around the Quest. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/poshei-Headband-Sweatband-Crossfit-Basketball/dp/B07H25M7WF/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1LT2PO7567VEE&keywords=poshei+mens+headband&qid=1566229012&s=gateway&smid=AG6PEUQEKSMVW&sprefix=poshei+%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-3

And what you'd do is you put it around the Quest's headband near where the solid arms are and then put it on your head. Your head will push up on one side of this headband which will raise up the arms a bit and transfer some of the front weight to where this strap is. It's a cheaper though no doubt less effective alternative to the Studioform strap. I use one of these types of headbands and it nice.

The felt does both. The glass spacer doesn’t have the curve that follows the edge of the headset so the felt blocks light and gets the proper angle so the pad is actually resting on something. Everything is fastened by the adhesive of the felt or Velcro but I did use string to tighten a few places.

I use VELCRO Brand Industrial Strength Fasteners | Stick-On Adhesive | Professional Grade Heavy Duty Strength Holds up to 10 lbs on Smooth Surfaces | Indoor Outdoor Use | 4 x 2 inch Strips, 4 Sets, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0010HADEA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_k7EsDbRW79609

This is the same Velcro I used to attach DAS it’s easy to cut to shape and applies very firmly.

It looks like the best way to get Bluetooth support may be a small AptX capable transmitter. I found this one on Amazon that people are using for the Nintendo Switch :

https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones-Simultaneously/dp/B01B4W40VC/

I guess you would have to attach the transmitter to the Quest but it looks like the audio lag would be 30-40ms (instead of 200+ms)

edit - You would obviously need AptX compatible Bluetooth headphones. I don't believe any of the Airpod models support this.

Here is the Amazon link. I have them and they work perfectly. No more slipping and very comfortable. Well built and locks tight.

You'll still need valid adb drivers. Step 3.

Also, the included cable works great with usb-c; this adapter works great with regular usb.

I ended up canceling it and going with a 3rd party.

I ordered this,

Hard EVA Travel Case for Samsung... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GLF8S36?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This one works well for me with DAS mod, and I easily fit the controllers, cable, a battery pack, and spare AAs.

u/ChimeraYo · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

There are a few for the Macbook that support full data speeds including Thunderbolt 3 video but they're not cheap. We don't need anywhere near that level of compatibility or throughput, and hopefully something will come along specifically for Quest. For now at least USB-C is much easier to plug in than the MicroUSB on Go, since it's omnidirectional.

edit: looking at the power-only magnetic connectors they just use 3 pins, and for USB 2.0 level speeds we'd need to add D+ and D-. The Macbook ones use 24 pins which is overkill for Quest : https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Adapter-Connector-Quick-Charge/dp/B07MMKZ8XD

edit 2: this one supports data, not a right-angle plug but getting closer : https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Ant-i-Product-Compatible-Micro-USB/dp/B07GWLF4GR

u/HYVR · 3 pointsr/OculusQuest

I would say it's as close to the vive w/ DAS as the quest could be comfort-wise, an immense improvement overall. The face cushion of the vive is more plush but that's the only difference IMO.

I use the Energizer 'Recharge' type...silver with a green swoosh. Just don't get the 'Recharge Pro' charger...it never charges to full, mostly 50%, then says it's done. I need to buy a new charger. But the batteries work great.

I have been looking into it but have not decided to buy yet. I am looking at this Magnetic Connector and this 10ft USB-C Cable. Both support data transfer but at USB2 speeds. I do not know if the Quest supports USB3.

u/RojasTKD · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

best I could find is a pack that include 3.3 & two 6.6 foot cables. 3.3 foot cable would work. I think they may be charge only (no data):

30$ Infrared illuminator works perfectly (guardian and tracking) for Quest in pitch black room.

edit: amazon link.

u/Stormbringer_01 · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

Here's exactly what you need (been there, bought & tried other cables until I found this one).

USB C / USB A, has 90-degree angles on both which allow you to keep the cable more flush to the headset, supports 3A of charging (more than needed), and is the perfect length (1.5 feet). Side note, 1-ft is too short IMO; while it's possible to make it work, it can be really tight and put pressure on the ports.

If you *really* need non-delayed audio, you could just plug an amplified external speaker into an unused headphone jack on the headset. You know, one of those little "phone speakers".

Like this: https://smile.amazon.com/G-Zip-Portable-line-in-speaker/dp/B00CO60A0S/ref=sr_1_27_sspa

If you need better quality and or volume, you could get a bigger/fancier Bluetooth speaker, and an audio-to-Bluetooth dongle. I'm guessing that the Bluetooth interface will introduce *some* delay, however.

OK so I heard the Quest has a cable that is USB-C male on both ends.

Which means to plug it into a PC you need a USB-C female to USB 3.0 male.

I bought a bunch of these, they're great, I've been using them on my laptop/android phone for a couple months and they're working exactly as expected.

It'll let you use any usb c cable you already have, so you're not stuck with that one magnetic cable.

Definitely recommend it.

edit: theyre charge only, if you need to transfer data they have other ones but theyre much larger and 2x+ the price. I would just unplug the magnetic portion and use a regular cable for the few times you need to actually transfer data, but if youre set on it, they have this

Wanted to make a quick post - using the Anker recommended cable (3M).
I tried the AmazonBasics USB 3.0 Extension Cable along with Cable Matters USB to USB Extension Cable - Both 3M - neither worked.

Finally, I tried CableCreation Active USB Extension Cable (Long 16.4 FT) - THIS WORKS, and it's way longer than the others.

I just ordered the following cables/adapters on Amazon hoping that I can plug this straight into my RTX 2080 and have a cable length over 5 meters.... Not sure if it will work, but I'll find out tomorrow.

So this is a bit of a "janky" solution, but what I've been doing is this.

Two of these (30$ each) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4W40VC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

One goes in the headphone jack, and one goes into the line in on your PC (TX and RX), and you then you plug your headphones into the other jack on your quest.

That way you can still have audio, but your viewers/video can have audio. There is a bit of latency (not bad at all though, sub 100ms) that you can fix in OBS.

It has pretty good range in my experience, and I haven't really had any issues with it.

u/Plymptonia · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

So far, yeah. A portable platform that plays custom Beat Saber tunes is enough to keep it alone - I've brought it to work to blow off some steam, and plan on taking it on a trip soon.

The tracking is still sub-optimal, but a Rift, Vive, or Index have 0 tracking in my office, so, well.... can't be too picky sometimes.

I'm going to try out FrankenQuesting, but curious if it offsets the portability aspect too much (this case I got is monsterous! VR Case from Amazon)

u/caillel · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

I have that same extender with the recommended anker cable and it works fine for me. 25 feet.....Played for 5 hours the other night and quest battery was still at 74%. Very pleased with link so far.

I am also using this right angle adapter with no issues:

Lowepro DroneGuard CS 200 $25

Smart&Cool GenX USB-C Charging & Data Sync Magnetic Cable (Silver, 5ft-2pack) $9

Energizer Rechargeable AA and AAA Battery Charger $13

Yes, the controllers use one AA battery each.

Yes, it's a magnetic USB-C; no, I don't plan to wear it while charging because I'm a little freaked over the safety risk of that. It will just be to charge without worrying about yanking the cable out and to reduce wear and tear by plugging and unplugging the cable.

u/JorgTheElder · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

Glad someone else had the same idea I had. I actually started selling them on amazon How did you attach the wii wrist straps to the inside of the controllers?

u/tripleh3lix25 · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

Hey there, just went through this. In case you have this happen again, you probably didnt need to return you Quest. This stuff is supposed to take all the stuff out of the lenses and make them look better than new. I'll let you know how it works. My rift s and Quest are both scratched cause of this. My Go also never did this this severe, in a short span of time despite hitting the lenses multiple times. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3T237C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JK1G6W2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 comes two in a pack and work perfectly. Weird thing is that my S10+ doesn't like the adapter at all.

The cables I bought work fine too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075H7YLPV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's 4 different sizes with 1 10'.

Only thing is that I'm not getting enough power to increase in charge while using. Could be the front port just isn't give enough juice. If I leave it alone it charges slowly.

My extender will be coming tomorrow.

I actually ended up getting these ones https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MYJQKJ6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title which have less overall bulk in the connector than that one. I'd personally be a little worried about my left hand smacking that and breaking something in the jack. Although I'm guessing that one does data as well as charging, whereas mine just do charging (non-issue for me), and I'm not sure if it they allowing for full amps/speed.

u/qruxtapose · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

The long wait for the VRCover drove me to find an alternative so I took a gamble on some Vive face cushions. There are probably better alternatives but here is what I did:

Bought this

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCHYD6T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and this

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010HADEA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I cut the velcro strips into little rectangles and put them on the glasses spacer, then I simply attached the face cushion to spacer. It doesn't fit perfectly, you gotta work it into the correct shape. However I actually dig the foam padding, it's more comfortable than the stock foam and doesn't absorb sweat which I really like. It's not a high quality product though, there is some tearing at the seams but it doesn't seem to be getting any larger. Also depending on how you get the cushion to fit there could be a little leakage on the sides, not much though. I don't know notice it at all while playing. No idea if that makes the Quest vulnerable to sun damage so be careful and don't blame me if you damage your Quest. Lastly, the foam makes wearing certain glasses uncomfortable, I use some thin harry potter style glasses for VR though and they work just fine. Obviously not a perfect solution but it works well for me.

Edit: Just noticing there are Vive Pro cushions (I hadn't noticed before). Those might work out better for glasses. Can't say for sure.

I used Tendelux 120ft IR Illuminator (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0771GQMPT/), the same IR illuminator from this YouTube video. It immediately recognized the room (which I had previously configured with the lights on) and tracking is great. To my human eyes, it appears as just 6 very dim red LEDs and the room is totally dark.

I enjoy using VR in the dark mainly because I get no light through the nosehole, and it's also nice for using it in bed and not having to turn the light off afterwards.

I'm currently typing this comment at my PC, but my monitor is off and I'm viewing the display using Virtual Desktop on my Quest. So I can use my PC in complete darkness.

You should get 'pre-charged/ready to use/hybrid' rechargeable not normal ones that loose their charge when they are not being used.

Since my laptop doesn’t have a usb c port, would this adapter work?

Edit: oh wait or am I stupid and the usb c part would go into the headset?

I eventually might buy those prescription lense inserts when they're out too.
