I have an 8" Shun Ken Onion right now and I love it. It's my first real quality knife so I don't have a ton of other cutlery with which to judge it by, but the balance is awesome on it and it holds an edge really well. I usually hone it with the shun steel ever 2 or 3 times I use it and it's back to it's razor sharp self right after. I would agree with one of the reviews on Amazon that said "I didn't know what sharp was until I got this knife". I think they're set at a 16 degree angle, which is a bit steeper than most knives I believe. Though I think Wusthof does 14 on some of theirs.

I've had a couple of stamped kitchen aid style santoku knives and I've used my sister's Wustof set, but I think my Shun outshines those quite a bit.

If I had a choice I would've gotten a 10" blade. The 8" is great for most every day home cooking, but it would be nice if it was a bit longer for things like breaking down melons and larger items.

I was able to get a crazy good deal on it last year right after new years it was around $90 for the 8" with the bamboo rack. So I would shop around a bit, and if you can wait for holiday sales you can probably get a good deal on whatever knife you decide on.

http://www.amazon.com/Casio-Mens-MQ24-1E-Analog-Watch/dp/B000GAWSHM/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1312264456&sr=8-9

Its not exactly a formal watch, but the black/gold look is simple and elegant. For skinny wrists, the band grips nice without dangling. The band also isn't metal, but you can't generally tell. Its a low-profile watch all-around.
The usual story with this watch is: Bought it for casual use/crappy throwaway while traveling, but ended up wearing it 24/7 and bought another when it wore out. I think some of the reviews even say that. My dad and I both had one (stocking stuffers) and loved them. He only wears a different one now because it was a gift, and I don't wear watches. (Skinny wrists run in the family)

I have the Wahl Peanut. It's pretty basic but I like that it runs on a single (rechargable) AA and never really suffers from a decrease in power. Comes with 5 length attachments. It's small, you never need to plug it in, and it gets the job done. And it's pretty cheap. I love mine.

I bought a Cyberpower 900W recently and love it. I upgraded from an APC 600W and it's remarkable how much better it is. My PC can last about 30 minutes on power now (3 minutes on my old one) and the UPS has the ability to connect via USB to the PC. It even shows a battery icon in the task bar, exactly as if it was a laptop. Solid buy for anyone needing a good UPS.

I don't personally have experience, but a few years ago I did a ridiculous amount of research into computer speakers - Came up with these as the most interesting: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Studiophile-AV-Powered-Speakers/dp/B000MUXJCO

Everyone seems to love them (check Amazon's user reviews)

Hope that helps

Need it cold? Think it's impossible?

Boom. This thread is done. GET OUT OF MY FACE if you think this isn't the best thing you've ever seen. This 30-something dollar purchase was the best money I've ever spent. Buckwheat is fucking weird, but I sleep like a champion with it.

I'll go on record right now: I won't ever review anything as highly as this pillow as long as I'm a subscriber to this reddit.

Disclaimer: I just searched for buckwheat pillow on amazon, results may vary by brand, but mine wasn't anything crazy expensive

Do you know what's tastier, quicker and easier than a bread machine and cheaper too? Get yourself a baking stone, danish dough whisk, gallon food bucket and this book: http://www.amazon.com/Artisan-Bread-Five-Minutes-Revolutionizes/dp/0312362919

I have a top-of-the-line Zojirushi and it sits in a box in the garage now. This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-BB-CEC20-Supreme-2-Pound-Loaf-Breadmaker/dp/B002XVUAOU/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1313186690&sr=1-1 - Like other bread machines, it doesn't brown the top which is half the reason I love eating bread. I can vouch that its recipe book makes a very nice variety of white, wheat and quick breads as well as jam and sour dough. Since the loaf pan is horizontal you have to even out the dough before it starts to rise so it doesn't bake lopsided but other than that it's very nice.

logitech x-530 are really good. Dont recommend ones under $30 though if you want bass and loud clear sound. Logitech overall has really good ones. My cousin has these and they sound great too when he was playing Crysis and Battlefield.

Does anybody know of some good in ear headphones which are relativity cheap (£40ish max) but still really good?

The same question but about over ear headphones, cheapish (£40ish max) but really good? I was considering these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD201-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B0007XJSQC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312201282&sr=8-1

Don't have a specific recommendation, but golf umbrellas are designed to withstand high winds and will keep you more dry than the dinky little umbrella's you get at the drug store. I've had the same one that I got at a charity outing for 3 years now. This one has mostly positive amazon reviews and is under $20.

I've had the Logitech X-230 speakers for about 3 years. Extremely happy with them. They sound really good, even when you crank it to 11.

I love this watch. Beautiful in person, and can be adjusted to fit any wrist. I hate how bulky most men's wristwatches are.

I bought these headphones a while back and have loved every minute of them.

In fact, I bought two pairs because I usually tend to go through earbuds really fast (wrapping them around my mp3 player, the wires frey and such). However, I've still been using my first pair since I bought them about 9 months ago. Highly recommended.

I just ordered the Remington Precision MB 200 based on a coworker's recommendation and stellar Amazon reviews. I'll post a review when it arrives and I tackle my scruff.

Recently bought the DW9052-1V G-Shock. Quite cheap, rugged (as far as I can tell, as with all G-shocks), ang going for $40. Waterproof down to 200m (at least that's what it says).

I can't recommend the Sennheiser HD 202's enough. Don't let the price fool you. I've been buying these headphones for years. (Actually the model I own isn't currently in production but was succeeded by the HD 202's). I accidentally broke my last pair and just bought a new pair of these. I own many different headphones including a pair of AKG-K701's and I actually prefer the Sennheisers for most casual listening.

Apartment doesn't come with a built in dishwasher?

Don't Let That Stop You (that's five links there)

Maybe I'm just spoiled by having a dishwasher, but I think handwashing dishes is flat out a terrible idea. They don't get nearly as clean, soap doesn't kill nearly as many germs as high temp water, and you waste a LOT more water/soap handwashing dishes. Not to mention the time you spend washing them.

This is a problem our society's technology has solved. I see no reason anyone shouldn't avail themselves of the solution.
