So here's the thing:

SketchUp computing hardware isn't very important.

Periferals on the other hand, can be an amazing work flow booster.

$140 - The 3DConnexion Space Mouse Wireless is an amazing way to move and interact with your model. They also make a much more expensive version that does more stuff.

Razer Naga 12-button gaming mouse I also use this as my CAD mouse. Some people use a three button mouse, with the middle button acting like the scroll button, but I like the ease of having all my tools in one hand.

Also, I'm running a GTX 970 & i5-9400f, and I don't have any problems. Any modern hardware should be able to run SketchUp.

It is easy to make your model run very slowly with bad practice on any computer. If you have good habits, you should be able model well on any modern desktop.

The Mazer mouse series is the best bang for your buck. I've had mine for a year. It works great and I use it for 3D modeling, CAD, and the Adobe suite daily.

I learned about the By Axis tip from this book:

The SketchUp Workflow for Architecture

It fully describes a comprehensive system for using SketchUp, and, just as importantly, Layout, as the sole program suite used from initial schematics to CDs. I'm not entirely sold on their entire process, but it's been interesting to see someone else's workflow after having used the software on my own for a while now.

Did you buy a laptop yet?!

If you didn't BAM!
This thing rocks for the price.

Even if you have, return the one you got, buy this. If its better than the one you got.

I ordered two Gigabyte Aero 15x Laptops for our office and they over perform for a lot of the projects we have been working on. I run Enscape (real-time rendering) simultaneously with Sketchup, AutoCad, and Photoshop running, so it can handle even the busiest days.

This is the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-AERO-15-X9-RT5P-i7-8750H-Keyboard/dp/B07MW5VL59/ref=pd_sbs_147_t_1/136-3246037-8286141?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07MW5VL59&pd_rd_r=680775b2-c693-4294-8fb7-fce394075a62&pd_rd_w=TnFZV&pd_rd_wg=UPY8h&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=KS6SNJP9CCHMCFC1GFCD&psc=1&refRID=KS6SNJP9CCHMCFC1GFCD

This one is $36. I'm getting the Logitech G600 because it's a little less riced-out, and a bit more professional-looking, but it's also a tax write-off, so.. there you go.
