I've heard good things about it. I don't have first hand experience though. I do have both Arkansas oil stones (which is what those are) and whetstones. I like my oil stones for general knife use. I think they're more user friendly. I have whetstones for my straight razors and some knives. I'm a huge fan of Norton and do have plenty of experience with them. I have this stone and it's great.

It's on the coarser side but when you get more experience you can produce edges good enough to shave hair. Not super cleanly but it will shave. The reason I recommended the other though is it has a higher grit stone and comes with oil too.

I'd also recommend the Norton whetstones too. Pricey but really great quality.

It comes with compound. Not necessary but they're nice to have around to give it that little bit of extra sharpness and you can maintain an edge with them. Just strop after every use and it will prolong the periods between honing.

Here's a really good video on freehand honing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln_z1IyubaI

As Duhherrooo already said, a straight handle knife is better. I have a squiddy and a triton but I also have a cheap amazon knife and I actually use it quite often. It's super cheap and pretty ok so if you want to get in to balisong flipping a little more i think you should buy one. Its the knife @bfn_jin uses and its often referred to as a bonelisong.

This trainer is still one I use when I can't take a balisong somewhere. It's insanely durable, just like a BBBarfly, but doesn't have insanely large handles and isn't louder than a semitruck. With a little sanding the handles are quite comfortable as well.

Cheap and easy is the Lansky system from Amazon. $32 and you can repair (reset a bevel) and simply sharpen a blade easily. You can get the 3 stone one for $25 but 2 extra grits for $7 extra is worth it. Just follow the short instructions and you'll be good to go.

I'm pretty sure this is the one I have. with the height of the camera added it should get you pretty close to 6ft I think.

Fastest and safest way to handle cuts and literally have you flipping again in 10 min.

  1. Wash under water.
  2. Spray with bactine or peroxide
  3. Cover with gauss or paper towel and hold in the air above the heart for a minute (stops blood flow)
  4. Take krazy glue (not generic super glue, krazy is better for human skin) the kind with the fine applicator tip and lay down a stripe over the cut while holding the cut together so the glue is basically laying over the skin and not getting much or any inside the cut.

Once dried, go back to normal life, flipping, typing, playing guitar, whatever it is you do, if it starts to crack away over the next day or 2 reapply as necessary, after 2 days it's generally closed for me, adjust to your own body as necessary.

In other thoughts, when choosing your bali, if you can help it, try to avoid serrated blades, they make the cuts uneven and jagged and at multiple depths which is harder to heal. Also there's no point in having your bali at a mirror-edge shaving level of sharpness, it'll just increase your odds of slicing a tendon / arteries. Personally, I always EDC 2 knifes, literally 2 knives clipped to the same pocket, one is a 2.4 ounce benchmade 940 folder which I don't even notice because it's so light, and the other is my bali. When I need to actually cut things, i use the razor sharp 940. I've let my bali get naturally duller over time and normal use and I avoid constantly rehoning the blade so it remains at mediocre sharpness to prevent deep cuts. I see it it more of a sporting tool, it's never my number 1 cutting tool, I have great folders for that.

Probably. could be wrong though. Regardless it's pretty cheap.

Here is a relatively cheap supply list:

Loctite Blue 242:

Nano-Oil 10 weight:

Torques:

There are probably better torques but l think these will work. I have a $45 set so I didn't think that is really cheap lol

yeah. shoot em an email and hope for the best. I tried looking for my really old knife but then I realized I threw it away after getting frustrated trying to fix it.

this is the screwdriver for t9. and while you're at it, pick up a t10 screwdriver too if you plan on picking up a better quality trainer. t10 it's pretty common, at least for me.

pivots, no clue. sorry

So currently I've been using an Icetek Dragon Trainer. It's not that great and I'm looking for a replacement. I was wondering what the best trainer for at most $50 would be? And yes I have read the buying guide in the sidebar, but it seems quite old and was wondering if there were newer things out now?

i use hops9, cheap and effective

I also dropped my Barebones while drunk on my foot in a similar fashion. I like to use Steri Stripsfor cuts/punctures that are too deep for traditional bandaids and too shallow for stitches (or as a temporary till I can get to proper care). It'll help with the scarring too

u/Beadlocks · 1 pointr/balisong

I mean if it's all that you have, sure. But you'll putting wayyy too much on. Wiping off etc...

This is what I use. One drop in each pivot. $5 shipped.

Keep in mind any trainer under $42 (squiddy) is going to fall apart or it crappy

Question thread next time. Post removed for not following rule 1
