many years ago i read loveman's chile. as far as i remember it wasn't an amazing read, but it was pretty good. i didn't find it particularly biased, although it's obviously written "from the left" - it seemed to back up arguments with facts (it's a "marxist" history in the technical sense - not that it's written by a raving communist [edit: i'm writing this for what i assume is an american OP], but that it cares about the social and economic causes for what has happened (which i think is what you want?); it's not a list of famous people and battles). it covers all of chile's colonial and post-colonial history (i don't remember it having anything about pre-colonial times) so it includes, but doesn't emphasise, pinochet et al, and places that in the context of a ruling class that wasn't exactly keen on sharing power, iirc.
what i thought a good book, although it's a study of chile now, and not a history, is han's life in debt - made me laugh, made me angry, made me cry with frustration (see my review on amazon).

Estaba Leyendo Factfulness, y en verdad doy gracias a personas como el Doctor Monckeberg que lograron con su trabajo erradicar la desnutrición, combatir la falta de estimulación a edades tempranas, y en general disminuir la mortalidad infantil. También por impulsar un programa de salud que estuviera enfocado a suplir las necesidades de salud básicas más inmediatas de la población, además del programa integro para madres, lactantes, niños.
En las propias palabras del Doctor: Es el avance más trascendente en la historia de este país.

Este es light, pero es bueno para tener una perspectiva histórica
Este es más cercano a una revisión histórica académica. Se ha convertido en clásico en los últimos años
Este otro ayuda bastante a comprender la segunda ola, que es el core de la principal reivindicación de las manifestaciones de hoy en día

No entraré en la crítica al feminismo (Camille Paglia tiene unos libros de ensayos buenos) o la tercera ola porque no he leido una obra que sintetise el fenómeno, así que no me voy a arriesgar.
En el mismo documental Food Choices hablan del libro "The China Study" que contiene en detalle toda la información científica al respecto (aún no lo termino de leer, pero es muy interesante):

Sólo comencé a no comprar nada animal y arreglármelas con lo que tengo en el refrigerador. Llevo como 2 meses siguiendo esta dieta (casi 2 años sin comer carne) y no he consultado con ningún nutricionista. Al final uno termina comiendo mejor que antes, evitando todas las tentaciones (McDonald's, Castaño, etc.). Para la vitamina B12 compro una leche de almendras que venden en el Lider/Jumbo que la contiene.
