We leave at the beginning of August. That leg could be particularly rough, but we've gotten quite good at sleeping sitting up. This pillow is pretty magical on long haul flights.
For gift card balances, I use Avery 1/2" x 3/4" Removable All-Purpose Labels in a 525ct pack found at Walmart. Put one in the opposite orientation of the gift card in the lower left corner of the back of the card. You can use it as a small ledger to indicate the balance of the card. I do that because sometimes I'll put more than one transaction on the card if I need a MO in a certain value and use the rest on Amazon gift cards or something.
For a larger label which is clear and removable, Avery also has clear address labels. They might work better than Scotch tape, but I don't have experience using them. You could put one on the card and write whatever you want, or print on them so they don't look as tacky as marking Scotch tape with a Sharpie. One sheet could just read "Grocery Stores" and another sheet reads "Office Supply Stores".
If you're talking about diagonal cutting pliers, (or dykes) a good set of tin snips like these would work much better and would likely be easier on your hands. Everyone should own a pair of these anyway, as they really come in handy more often than you would think. If you buy a lot of products that come sealed in that rigid clear plastic these are a blessing. They come in different sizes and some can get pretty pricey, but that $10 pair on Amazon would chew up all the metal in your wallet in no time.
An AeroPress costs $30. A hand held milk frother costs $10 or less. I can keep both of these at my desk or pack in my carry on and never have to experience the crap that is Starbucks and save hundreds of dollars on superior coffee.
They deserve to be spoiled :)
This is the fountain I'm using, been working great so far.

something like this works perfectly - https://www.amazon.com/Avery-All-Purpose-Labels-Inches-White/dp/B000BQOCRK/
We do this. They are cheaper in store I'm pretty sure.
They sit directly in front of us (we go middle/aisle with them in middle aisle in front of us). Because youngest is "6 and under", we get family boarding still.
In terms of "Chester", I don't fear that at all. Are some people weird? Sure. But the odds of "Chester" having the seat next to my kids is so infinitesimally small it's not something I concern myself with.
The Coddling of the American Mind by Jonathan Haidt (the same guy who wrote The Righteous Mind) is a must read for parents. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Here is their Atlantic Article that was the primer for the book; but the book is significantly better and addresses over-coddling/overprotection of kids much more in depth than this article (which focuses primarily on the academics).
Avery Removable Labels, pick your size:

The ones above are really small so just 5X Gas or whatever. You can get these:

If you need to write a couple of lines. Or just stick several on there and take notes or whatever your want, like how many times you've used an Amex Sync offer or whatever.
As I like to be organized and always pay mo fee in coins... I've actually been using this quite a bit recently. Fits nicely in the drawer with the binder

Are there any other odd items you guys use?
You'll need some of these to start.
I normally use private mode in Safari on my mac, because I've never logged into my amex account with it. If you have, clear your cookies/cache and restart your browser, then launch incognito mode and go to americanexpress.com. It should be right there.
I do something a little bit different from everyone else. I use a 5.5x8.5 binder with dividers in it. To that I attach these adhesive pockets and opposite have a sheet of paper with any important notes about the card in question. Since it's just binder paper, I can add, remove or replace notes as necessary (last use, any bonuses, temporary bonuses, whatnot).
I have a bad memory and this isn't a good sport for bad memories, so this helps me a lot.
I use these and a 3 ring binder for my sock drawer cards: http://amzn.com/B00006IC8I
My wallet is a Calvin Klein tri-fold wallet that holds roughly 18 credit cards + cash. It's getting kind of bulky, but that's also because I have 5 cards I'm trying to meet minimum spend on. It'll thin out a little in a couple months.
http://www.amazon.com/GladWare-Salad-Storage-Containers-ounce/dp/B000RA6GMY This is my storage unit. Secured under a pile of my least favorite socks and underwear.
We've used the Evenflo Tribute for 2 years now on every single flight for our toddler. It's under 10lbs and the tether strap has something to hook onto on the back of the chair, so if you hook the tether strap loosely, it then becomes a shoulder strap to conveniently carry around.
Business card book. Specifically this: Rolodex Leather Low-Profile Business Card Case, 96-Card, Brown (76655) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PMC6ZE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XPdbBbQT5K24K
I keep it in a drawer and swap cards in and out as needed.
I've got something akin to this:

it's a weekly NYT column.

I have a hard time believing those pens cost much to produce.
Take for example Mont Blanc.
The pens retail for $300-$1000 http://www.montblanc.com/en-us/collection/writing-instruments.filter.html?&filters=2019618787
Yet the functional writing part costs $15 to replace twice http://www.amazon.com/Blanc-Refills-Rollerball-Point-Black/dp/B00007FJZ0
Even if these were CNC lathed alloys, which is about as fancy as manufacturing gets, I don't see them costing more than say $20 each from a CNC shop, and then gold coating a lot of several hundred pieces this size costs around $1000 at a plating shop (assuming the gold is dissolved and electrochemically bonded, and not solid gold, which it isn't, because that would be heavy and cost more than $1000) , so my guess is a few dollars of gold.
Barclays probably signed a deal with the maker and gets them very cheap.
It's all marketing psychology, I guess. People see a high price, meaning only rare people can get it, and then they want it more.
Not sure, it’s this one
