Great advice from /u/Mizumeowz.

I use gesso on my foam props so would also recommend it. I apply in very thin coats, usually with a foam brush (like these), allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next one. I also sand in between coats, using a sanding sponge with fine grit (like this one). Sanding in between coats will make the surface smoother. Make sure to use fine grit though and apply light pressure - using the coarser grit or sanding too hard in general will easily eat away the gesso. Also, make sure to wear a mask and goggles when you sand because the dust is very fine - you definitely do not want to breathe it.

Good luck!

Suit: Cosplaysky Medium. Jacket (Under the vest thing) was short. Didn't tuck into the pants well. I rolled it up and put it under the vest. Under shirt was too small and hood too big so I used a scuba hood. Belt was too large as well, had my mom sew it to make it shorter. I'm 5'7, 40" chest, 32" waist for reference.

Helmet: Xcoser (Paid $30 for it on eBay. Came with a flaw so ended up with 2!). Painted it Rustoleum wine and black. I liked the black face so kept it. 2 coats of flat clear coat. Lenses are made from a soda bottle and car tints then I glued them in.

Chain and gun were from Amazon.

Kept the boots and gloves from my black suit Daredevil from last year.

Happy how this turned out. Won second place in a cosplay contest!

I'll need to revisit the eyes in the future. These were done with scraps at home.

The car filler is bondo yes it is easy to use and fairly easy to sand. Mix in small batches, about the size of a golf ball and spread with a plastic spatula that can be found at the store usually right beside the filler. I have found artistic palette knives help a lot in mixing and spreading as well. Then you will sand ->primer -> sand, (repeating with finer grit sandpaper and then finally painting when you are happy with the surface.

This was taken with on of my favorite authors Patrick Rothfuss, so it was pretty amazing just getting to meet him. Then when I come back home I see that he ended up posting this pic on his person facebook page. Which was just amazing.

Not sure if anyone will see this, but I decided to continue with the initially unintended clear look for now. I bought an acrylic gel to smear over the entire plastic frame. It hardens into a decently stiff yet flexible material. Easy to sculpt and will at least fill the holes. Once this is done, if the clear still looks nice, I will have to buy a sturdier acrylic gel to stiffen it. http://www.amazon.com/Acrylic-Medium-Golden-Leveling-Clear/dp/B0007WARHW

I would just go watch it again and sit a little closer and make super strong mental notes on the design.

But there is also this:

I found some on amazon. The exact pair in the movie, the sony mdr-5a are even rarer and harder to find than the tape player. Really any kind will work as long as you get the orange covers., I ended up finding a few pairs online after I already ordered those that could have been cheaper, but I'm happy with them so far.

awesome idea! could you possibly repurpose a couple of pop-up hampers to make it work? or make something out of wire that can collapse? similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Household-Essentials-Pop-Up-Hamper-Black/dp/B0007CXQQ6

regardless, when you figure out I hope you post pictures here!

I'm just thinking out loud here, as I've never done a build like what you stated, but what about using back support suspenders and then attaching pieces to it using snaps or straps?

Something like this? I'm seeing a lot of spray dyes similar to what I got when I searched for vinyl spray paint.

Thats the wrong type of mask. It does nothing for bondo fumes. That mask is just for harmless dust particles. What you need is a respirator with some sort of organics filter that will keep from breathing in the volatile solvents.

Something like this.

You can either make it using EVA foam with this tutorial: EVA Foam Horns

Or

You can purchase a bunch of cheap horned Viking helmets and take the horns off them and make them into saber tooth(teeth) Viking Horns

you could get a deck box for that thingy on magma girl's hip.
