Do you want a real SNES or will a knockoff do?

You can get an FC Twin pretty cheap:
http://www.amazon.com/SNES-Video-System-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B000SC1MUM

Or maybe this if you like Sega controllers:
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-RetroN-System-Charcoal-Nintendo-Entertainment/dp/B003Y5AHPG/ref=sr_1_8?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1344367415&sr=1-8

And this is a new console, you don't have to worry about batteries.

For connection you're probably thinking of video connection, S-Video is as good as anything. If your TV doesn't have S-Video or Composite inputs you'll need s converter of some kind.

Personally, in 2012, I'd use an emulator. PC NES/SNES emulators have better support than hardware or the Wii Virtual Console at this point.

Well, this doesnt necessarily fit your price range but when you think about it, even though it's only one unit, it is the size of 3-4 units put together... but even so, I will post it in case someone in the future finds this post through the search feature; that's how I found out about it.

I have a Prepac BMA-1520, got it for just under 300$. This thing is the perfect depth for games, and is very adjustable; it came with 34 shelves, so you could potentially fill it with ds/3ds sized boxes without wasting any space. And of course you can even put figures on top of it (like just about any storage unit) so it looks really cool. Here's mine.

I bought this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027SFPIA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works quite well I am actually surprised! Has fixed quite a few PS2 disks. I will say that DVD are the easiest to fix and it does well. As far as purple or black bottom it does not do a good job. For $30 I am happy.

My television has 4 HDMI inputs, 1 composite input and 1 component input. I have the PS4, PSTV, PS3, Gamecube, Retro USB AVS and Xbox 360 using HDMI (Xbox 360 shares with PS3 and PSTV shares with PS4). I have the Xbox, Saturn, Genesis and SNES plugged into one of these using HD Retrovision cables: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002M5M9TQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And then I have the 3DO, Dreamcast, N64, and Wii plugged into this composite switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0154QWCM8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

Hope that helps!

It’s been so long ago since I bought them. This is the 2nd one I’ve bought, the first one was better built than this one. But this one is fully customizable where the first one I got had 6 shelves that are permanent.

This link is to the 2nd one I bought (it is the one pictured here)
https://www.amazon.com/Prepac-Width-Storage-Cabinet-Black/dp/B001KW0BDI/ref=pd_sbs_196_6/141-2816934-2344453?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B001KW0BDI&pd_rd_r=5abea51f-6cf0-4288-9caf-9081204d74b3&pd_rd_w=f7MRJ&pd_rd_wg=jPutW&pf_rd_p=52b7592c-2dc9-4ac6-84d4-4bda6360045e&pf_rd_r=8WGM8HSZ4M32JA6AJECE&psc=1&refRID=8WGM8HSZ4M32JA6AJECE

Like I said above though it’s not as sturdy as the original one was, but I still love it and will buy it again when I get enough next gen games.

Honestly just get something [like this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ROGD4E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and straight up replace the cases. It's cheap enough that it is worth it and honestly since I've started doing this all of my PS1/Dreamcast games look like new. You can clean off all the stickers you want but things like scratches/scuffs/cracks can't be removed.

Atlantic Oskar Adjustable Media... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8H30?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Some complaints in the reviews but i love it. Easy to pit together snd adjustable shelves.

u/Pilcrow182 · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I don't see a full-sized SNES or Genesis/MegaDrive either (unless you've got them somewhere else). If you're interested in the clone systems, I'd recommend a Retron 3. They're like half the price of a Retron 5 and almost as useful; they can't play GB/GBC/GBA or MasterSystem games, but for NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis/MegaDrive, they're pretty decent!

u/kb_klash · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I believe it's this. I was planning on buying the slightly larger one by the same brand but was holding off a bit. Glad I found it because I saved a bunch of money.

u/RatherRedditing · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Pretty sure it's a zigzag brand storage tower, they used to sell them at best buy for 30-50 dollars. Used to love the idea of the controller tray on top, but never wanted to pay that much.

Yup, just found the link on amazon.

Here is the s-video switch box I'm using, but sadly seems to be sold out at the moment.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031IIXW0/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yep, my wife actually built those shelves as a bday gift. :)

As for the HDMI box, I forget the make and model, just some model off of ebay. Though I'm going to retire it and the VGA to Component box (for the Dreamcast) and run s-video and VGA straight to the projector instead.

I've had really good luck with Super77 spray adhesive. Id doesn't soak the paper and it is very sticky. Yoiu spray it on the back of the label, let it sit for a minute and it gets very sticky. Then lay down the label. you can get it at most grocery/department/craft/drug stores etc.

I use a switch box, one for composite/s-video systems, and one for HDMI systems. But I have a question now looking at this. I assume you can leave all the consoles hooked up? You don't need to unplug one console to use another? If so, what would happen if you turn two or more consoles on at the same time? I assume nothing.

Really didn't know these existed or even thought of something like this when I bought the switch box. If you do have to change over when using different consoles I'd probably still stay with the switch box. Constantly unplugging and plugging probably isn't good for the inputs on the consoles after many years of use.

Edit: I just noticed the composite switch box I use is no longer made, and the $120 price tag is incredibly more expensive now. I bought it for under $40 CDN in early 2014. This is the one I'd probably buy now and looks pretty similar. I actually like this one better, as it has 8 outputs instead of 6. Doesn't have S-Video which kinda sucks though. All 8 + Input is on the back, where mine the 6th output is on the front. Making cable management look less clean on the one I have.

u/LegatoSkyheart · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

A Link to the Web Page.

Well the Used Price is a bit more bearable, but $40 is still pretty pricey. Heck I didn't think this game would ever hit the $100 mark new, but it's freakin' there. I should have gotten it when it was much cheaper.

u/RatedR4MoD · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use the Atlantic Oskar for my storage needs. It works great, I have 3 of them and they store everything I need.

u/OSUTechie · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Do you want CIB/Mint or just the cartridge?
Amazon have some pretty decent deals depending on condition

Have you tried using the links on the sidebar? Here is pricecharing for Pokemon Blue

http://www.amazon.com/100-STANDARD-Clear-Jewel-Case/dp/B002ROGCG8

Another option could be hitting up pawnshops in your area, which can have really cheap CD sales (sometimes cheaper than 25 cents each) but remember that the PS1 cases used clear cases and CD holders.

u/Yuuka5 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

How would something like this fair for a stepdown converter" https://www.amazon.ca/VCT-VT-500J-Japanese-Transformer-Converts-500-watt/dp/B000PC4JL4

Not sure if that's a cheap brand or not, but I guess i should pick one up sooner or later, just for securities sake

u/feedle · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

You know you can purchase one of those Chinese knockoff consoles for around $50. They'll play NES and sometimes Genesis games too, typically.

Example: http://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-RetroN-System-Charcoal-Nintendo-Entertainment/dp/B003Y5AHPG

u/Tothoro · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Amazon. This is the exact shelf I ordered. I have two of the 464 (two column) models and one of the 756 (three column) models for all of my games, DVDs, and Blu-Rays.

u/ZadocPaet · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I actually just figured it out myself. It's this.

I did figure out that it was a stand for DVDs and Blurays, and it had a spot for a PS3, and that the side clips were to hold guitars and the top for controllers, but I just figured out what it is called. I was assuming it was a retail display. But this was actually a consumer product.

u/evilpaul · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Standard NES power will destroy the Famicom so don't use that. You can use the early Sega Genesis adapter and maybe the Master system. A quick search can verify that for you. Pretty sure I did that but I haven't used my Famicom in a bit so I forget.

Many say use a step down converter but I forget if you have to with the Sega adapter or not. I think this one was recommended in here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PC4JL4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_l2ikybD6YHCJP

u/RebootRevival · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Bestine. Placement of sticker is irrelevant.

u/ThaddeusJP · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

My stuff is in drawers at the moment. Current limitations on space and all.

This media towre is something I have considered when I get more room. Lots of other options are out there.

u/Digitalon · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I actually got a resurfacing and cleaning device for Christmas, so far I've gotten a beat up copy of Spider Man 2 for GameCube working and cleaned up a few Playstation games. This is the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Professional-DVD-Disc-Cleaner-Reconditioner/dp/B0027SFPIA

I use this for connecting my NES/SNES/Dreamcast/Gamecube/PS2/Genesis to the TV. It saves so much clutter and I can flow and strap all the cables to one area. The TV doesn't have enough plugs for all of them anyway, so a switch is a must.

u/agentsam10 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I have my older systems hooked into this which is hooked up into an RCA to HDMI adapter which goes to my receiver that then goes to my TV. If you need extra inputs you could add a switch between some consoles and the 8 input switch but that might degrade the signal even more.
