Yes and no. It's a clone of a LengKeng scaler that you can find on ebay for about 50 bucks.

I have a similar box but it's SCART to HDMI so I have composite, s-video and RGB. Honestly it's okay. It tries to deinterlace 240p video so it can't handle flicker effects properly and when stuff moves it applies like a blur filter on it. It's really not noticeable in play. The only thing is on composite it does basically the same job as my TV (but I think my TV actually has a very good scaler built in). Honestly if you're gonna grab one of these do it, but grabbing a Cvid Scart to HDMI from amazon or a Lenkeng brand one from ebay is the better investment.

If you have the Scart port you can buy adapter for like 5 bucks that allow you to hook up composite and s-video, plus you can invest in RGB cords so your older consoles look at their absolute best. It'll tide you over until you find a really nice scaler like an XRGB mini or something on ebay for a really good price.

http://www.amazon.com/CVID-BG-460-System-Digital-Converter/dp/B00988GMLG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1GEOXRSZ3YMVF&coliid=I10E8ZKAW3VYBF

Are the two scalers I mentioned. The ebay one might require you to buy a euro to US plug adapter. Mine got shipped with a euro power adapter but it handles 110v-220v so I just bought the plug adapter and it works.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Belkin-Switchable-Adapter-Scart-to-S-Video-3-RCA-Composite-DVD-TV-XBOX-F8V3017cp-/251489205809?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a8decbe31

And that is the composite and s-video adapter I was talking about. Buy something like that from amazon or ebay. Just make sure your seller is from the UK. You'll get the same price but much faster shipping. Mine came in the next week from some other seller.

Hey Kotorcomics:

I am not sure what kind of space we are talking here, but I have a couple of suggestions.

  1. These cabinets are of excellent quality, fit snug against the wall, and take up minimal space depth wise. They are fairly wide, but their depth is about that of a PS2/Xbox/Wii game and the top sticks out enough to set console boxes on top of them https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KW0BM4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

  2. John Hancock posted a video a week or two ago updating his current progress on his new game room. He mentions some small, stackable plastic crates he will be using for his new space (smallish). He starts talking about them around the 3:20 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGKfYGAtNaM.

    Hope that helps!

For an HDMI switch, I use this: Kinivo Switch, and it works great. I have a PS4, XB1, Wii U, Switch and PS3 hooked up to it. I have no issues with it, and recommend it. I am running everything at 1080, though.

I also have 2 of the Pelican System Selector Pro 2.0's that I absolutely love. Each one has 6 inputs, capable of switching composite, s-video and component. You have to run the appropriate outputs, so you are really limited to using 1 type of output realistically. If you get fancy with the output wiring you can mix and match, but I like to keep it simple. I use S-Video for everything that supports it into the selectors and then into a Toshiba CRT TV. I don't see any on eBay right now, but that's pretty much where you're gonna find them. I really like mine and recommend trying to scoop one up.

I used to run the regular Pelican System Selectors that had push buttons to switch sources. They work, but don't look as slick as the Pro's and Pro 2.0's.

Mixing inputs gets tricky, and I typically run different switching units for different types of outputs (s-video, component, HDMI). Here is a link to my setup I posted on reddit a few weeks ago: my setup

u/roushimsx · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

In that case go for a switch like this. Four composite/svideo inputs, no power supply required, and balls cheap.

Component switches seem to be pretty pricey, but there's this one from Monoprice that should be able to do you good for your Wii/PS2/Xbox. If you have a learning remote thingy (like a Harmony or whatever) then you can program it and stuff (though you'll probably still have to get up to toggle whatever system you're going to be playing...so..yea...).

You're going to be running into power issues with having all of your systems hooked up, thanks to the bulky ass bricks so many of them used. Don't be the jack off that daisy chains surge protectors and extension cables, just buy something with decently spaced out outlets like this.

I also recommend labeling the cables on both ends to save on headaches later. Label which switch/port it's going to on the side that connects to the system and label the side that connects to the switch with the name of the system. You don't need to buy Kableflags, but at the very least rig something up with scotch tape and a piece of paper. It's a little redundant, but it doesn't hurt to tape a small piece of paper to the back of the TV / top of the switch / under the switch / whatever with the current, complete configuration of your whole setup, too.

You know what modern day controller is excellent? The Logitech Cordless Action Controller for the PS2 and original Xbox. It had the most comfortable vibration and ergonomics I have come across. On top of that, the battery life was extremely long (I could easily get 100+ hours of gameplay out of a pair) and the wireless worked flawlessly.

If you are a PS2 or original Xbox aficionado these are must have periphs.

Edit: Apparently I am not the only one who thinks so, their prices have actually GONE UP since they were released. I'm glad I snagged a couple used ones from Gamestop back in the day when they were selling for about $15. If you buy a used one make sure it has the receiver with it or it will not work!

u/teamshred · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

hey man! probably paid too much to win FOTW but if this is your first Genesis, congrats, such a great system to collect for. If I can give a couple recommendations: get some AV cables for the video and use the headphone jack to get your audio so you get stereo sound. Amazon has cheap AV cables: http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Genesis-Standard-AV-Cable-Dreamcast/dp/B002FY0CM0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335755174&sr=8-1

and here is the type of audio cable for the headphone jack: http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Mini-Plug-Computer-Stereo/dp/B000LMFS7M/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1335755210&sr=1-1-catcorr

u/XenoSega · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

I really love these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KW0BM4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

  • They are high quality
  • They are low profile
  • They are shallow
  • You can make the top row perfectly fit PS1 games and the remaining rows will perfectly size up for PS2 games
u/m1kepro · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Either SegaCD is compatible with the Model 1 units. Only the the second SegaCD is compatible with the Model 2.

The reason Model 1 is so much more popular is because they used better, more expensive hardware to produce it. If you can find one that reads "High Definition Graphics" across the top of the circle, you're in even better shape. Combine that with one of these and you'll have the best Genesis experience you can muster.

u/Goodwill_Gamer · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I personally use a 3 ring binder with card pages. It works great.

For displaying them out in the open a popular option is the nail polish holder as they fit GB games perfectly.

u/IMakeIce · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Umm...I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but:

  • NIB - FF8: $12.00
  • NIB - FF9: $12.00
  • NIB - FFA: $16.00
  • NIB - FFC: $15.00
  • NIB - FFO: $19.00

(From Amazon...there are cheaper options for all of the above through independent Amazon marketplace stores)

You fell victim to dealers overhyping rarity...which happens way too often to a lot of people, so nothing against you. It is the reason prices are so high on games that are just plain and simple not rare or monetarily valuable. I just wish more people armed themselves with knowledge and stopped letting dealers shaft customers so often.

The original release Halo and $7.00 for GH RE4 were pretty good deals though, kudos on those!

Edit: By numbered, you mean 7, 8, and 9? Do you have A, C, and O yet? I also notice that in your Backloggery, 7 is the only beaten one you have, which one is your next play through? n_n I love the PS Final Fantasies.
u/Linuse · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

N64 would be a good fit for you. It uses Composite(Red Yellow White cables). So you would need a HDMI converter. I recently bought a cheap one from Amazon to last me until my Frameister came in. For $14, it was very fast response time up scaling to 1080 on my flat TV.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L8GG6PW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Protip: Get an N64 Everdrive V3 to play all N64 games(even fan translations/hacked versions). You can still collect for the system but having all games on the console ready to go is nice if you don't want to hassle with changing carts.

u/faceofbear · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

This RCA switcher will take care of your RCA needs. I would then run the output from the RCA switcher into this [RCA to HDMI converter] (https://www.amazon.com/GANA-Composite-Converter-Adapter-Supporting/dp/B01L8GG6PW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510170964&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=rca+to+hdmi&psc=1).

Then maybe you'd want to consider picking up 2 of these 5x1 HDMI splitters. Just make sure you keep everything labeled so you know what's what. Hope that helps!

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I highly recommend this one. Its been working great for me and the best part of it is it has an automatic switch so when ever you turn a system on it will automatically switch to that system.

u/DevinWatson · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

I replaced a few of my worn joysticks with these:

https://www.amazon.com/Redesigned-REPLACEMENT-Joystick-Controller-Thumbstick/dp/B009MRZAUC

Makes it more like a GameCube stick. I know it's not to everyone's taste but it definitely made THPS2 a lot easier to play.

u/lopo87 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

My television has 4 HDMI inputs, 1 composite input and 1 component input. I have the PS4, PSTV, PS3, Gamecube, Retro USB AVS and Xbox 360 using HDMI (Xbox 360 shares with PS3 and PSTV shares with PS4). I have the Xbox, Saturn, Genesis and SNES plugged into one of these using HD Retrovision cables: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002M5M9TQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And then I have the 3DO, Dreamcast, N64, and Wii plugged into this composite switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0154QWCM8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

Hope that helps!

You might already know this but Hyrule Historia is being localized and is coming out Jan 29, 2013. Amazon has them available for pre-order and has a 40% discount on it, an even bigger discount than when I pre-ordered it. So yeah just letting you know if in case you were interested in it.

Link

u/macinslash · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

get him hyrule historia. i suggest this, as one of my friends also loves the zelda games, but doesnt care about CIB or collecting per se. he loved this though.

u/tempusfudgeit · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

I have this cheap one off amazon and it works pretty great. There's tons of reviews of people that use it with retro systems.

Just be warned, this sub and /r/retrogaming are filled with people drinking the framemeister kool aid who will tell you if you don't drop a grand on an upscaler and cables or play on a Sony PVM everything else looks like shit and is unplayable.

I have a sony wega trinitron that I prefer to play games on S-video, but the upscaler I linked definitely does the job if a CRT isn't available.

u/CommodorePython · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

You should get Hyrule Historia. My friend gave it to me for my birthday and it's beautiful and informative. Full color, lot's of pictures, timeline, concept art.

u/Drunkin-Toilet · 5 pointsr/gamecollecting

Amazon is where I found mine! I think it was like $11.50? I’ll post a link for it.
Also I think they very in size (as in how many bottles of nail polish it can hold) I saw one that could hold 172 where the one I bought held 60. If you have a big collection buy the larger one it will be more cost effective.

EDIT: Home-it Nail Polish Holder Acrylic 5 Step Counter Display Holds Up 60 Bottles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GBCPM6I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PsIdBbTR0AY3F

I use a switch box, one for composite/s-video systems, and one for HDMI systems. But I have a question now looking at this. I assume you can leave all the consoles hooked up? You don't need to unplug one console to use another? If so, what would happen if you turn two or more consoles on at the same time? I assume nothing.

Really didn't know these existed or even thought of something like this when I bought the switch box. If you do have to change over when using different consoles I'd probably still stay with the switch box. Constantly unplugging and plugging probably isn't good for the inputs on the consoles after many years of use.

Edit: I just noticed the composite switch box I use is no longer made, and the $120 price tag is incredibly more expensive now. I bought it for under $40 CDN in early 2014. This is the one I'd probably buy now and looks pretty similar. I actually like this one better, as it has 8 outputs instead of 6. Doesn't have S-Video which kinda sucks though. All 8 + Input is on the back, where mine the 6th output is on the front. Making cable management look less clean on the one I have.

u/samnitmar · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

For that you'll need some converter, probably similar to this. I've got very little experience with these though. Good luck!

u/JoshuaPearce · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

https://www.amazon.com/Auto-sensing-V-Switch-5-2-out/dp/B00DSQMVKU

This is what I have. I got a pair of them on ebay a bit cheaper, you can hunt around. It works great, if all you need is s-video or composite.

One downside is adding yet another AC wart to your probably already crowded power strips.

Ironic bonus: Came with several dozen different labels for the buttons.

u/thatwontdopig · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Here is the a/v cable. You also need to use the model 1 power supply, and can buy something off-brand like this for a decent price. You can shop around for the best deal, but beware that the model 1 uses different cords than the model 2/3, so you just need to be careful.

u/stp40 · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

Get one of these converters and your dreamcast will look AMAZING on a HTDV. Same goes with SNES and a SCART cable.

u/placebotwo · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

The best wireless Playstation 2 Controller hands down is Logitech's entry.

u/jazz_music_stopps · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use these now. They have a nice weight to them and are stable. Little more $$$ though.

You can (and should) also anchor them too the wall, if you haven't already. I have one set left similar to yours and I ended up needing to that to be able to sleep at night.

u/TimberTheHutt · 4 pointsr/gamecollecting

Look for one of these wireless Logitech controllers. Fantastic controller and no cords. Just make sure it includes the receiver that plugs into the controller port.

u/DibsNoJoust · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use this guy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSQMVKU/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=19B33HS2JN0SW9M4CB5B&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop

Requires to be plugged in (which is the only down side) but it auto-switches so I don't even need to push a button, just power on the console I want to play and BOOM

u/AkooglyEyes · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

The N64 stick is a pretty common mod, you can buy the replacement stick assemblies online:

I thought I recognized that shelf. I’ve got the taller variant. really good quality and i’ve got tons of space left.

[edit] adding the link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001KW0BGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jvnJDbKQXDX38

u/pureskill · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

That's a very nice collection. I'm assuming you've already got Hyrule Historia preordered then, huh?

u/cynicaljedi · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

They are not resealed, they are reprints. This is how Square has been sealing them. Square continues to manufacture a few of their popular titles so these are NOT "New Old Stock" but just plain old "New Stock".

Edit: If you were to buy this sold and shipped as "New" by Amazon, it would be in the same shrink wrap as this is how they are sealed by the manufacturer these days.

u/background_spider · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Got a few packs from amazon, they are plastic easels.
http://www.amazon.com/Clear-Plastic-Easels-Plate-Holders/dp/B003CTSIG4
Most hobby stores such as hobby lobby sell them as well.

u/kokugami · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

It seems the popular and easy TV fix is the Sony Trinitron Wega.
For scart I think going from that to a component would worsen the signal, but I'd like heads up on that too. You could try a scart to hdmi converter, I've heard good things about this one and plan on trying it with my Saturn and Dreamcast sometime soon.
I tried hooking my Dreamcast up to my 40" via VGA. Didn't look too great, I'm assuming worse for SNES.

u/Z0MBGiEF · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I picked one up on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8PUU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but you can find them all over the place. Media towers that were designed to store CDs will do just fine for NES games since they're about the same height when stored sideways.

u/AnotherChocobo · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Whoever did that to you is a 100% prime grade-A asshole. Looks like you can buy a sealed copy of FF9 on Amazon for twelve bucks and some change, though.

u/howdyzach · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

these things are the business, I have like 5 of them hooked up to the same outlet: https://www.amazon.com/Accell-PowerSquid-Outlet-Multiplier-Extension/dp/B004LZ5XMU

u/seadragon1012 · 7 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use a nail polish display, it works really well. They aren't that expensive ether and they come in different sizes. The one I got holds 6 gameboy carts per shelf 11 advance if you stand them lengthwise.

I'm having the same issue with my main TV in the living room. Only has 2 HDMI ports but I regularly use the Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch on it, so I've been manually unplugging the HDMI from the PS4 and plugging into the Switch.

Also on that TV is my PS3 and Wii U, but the hassle of changing cables means I just don't use them.

These 2 HDMI switches were recommended to me:

I understand it had a lower production quantity, but the game isn't that good so it balances out - it's not one of those "hidden gems" you find out about later. It's in stock on Amazon and just your regular retail price if you really want it. Ignore the reviews on Amazon, I suspect they're resellers or people trying to increase it's value. Watch reviews on Youtube or check out Metacritic to understand why this is a below average (or average at best) game.

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001KW0BGK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only real difference between this one and the one he linked is the amount of dvds it can hold.

u/staxx75 · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

Not anymore as it is currently at it's standard price $59.99.

Amazon

u/OutlawDJ · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Yeah most of the time unless there is a supply issue, which is whats up with both of those.

TMNT on NES - not released in Japan, late in cycle.
Bonk - VERY late in cycle, on a competing system.

Games on older systems late in cycles are usually more expensive due to lower runs, fewer purchases.

New games don't really have these issues anymore. People went running for that garbage Devil's Third game, and then the price dropped. Look: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00KWIYS3K

So at the end of the day, its what version is being hoarded and is wanted.

I have my older systems hooked into this which is hooked up into an RCA to HDMI adapter which goes to my receiver that then goes to my TV. If you need extra inputs you could add a switch between some consoles and the 8 input switch but that might degrade the signal even more.
