>With this in mind, it is my goal to never place a nano that doesn't bring you to an interesting place.

My goal for 15 years has always been to never place a micro. Always 100ml or larger. That way everyone gets to enjoy the experience, those who only want a log to sign and those who want more.

It means that sometimes I have to work harder to figure out how to include a palm size 100ml/3oz Lock & Lock. It could mean I create a multi that brings people to a spot I want them to see and then takes them to a location that supports a palm size cache. More often it means I have to spend a little more time checking the area for nooks and crannies that are not obvious at first glance.

I like find interesting stones or little plastic figures. And I just bought a set of these to leave in caches. I thought they looked like something fun for a kid to find.

You can find a slightly lower price on Amazon. I prefer the telescoping version. It is not cheap, but totally worth it in my opinion. Extremely solid construction that holds up next to my keys and change, and I never find myself accidentally inking the inside of my pocket. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VC3FBS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_uwirDbR6A4FMV

I know not everyone would consider spending that much on a pen, but there are cheaper options that will fit in a pocket or on your keychain. Here's one I used for a while that is only $9. I liked it, but the thinness of the barrel made it difficult for me to write legibly. YMMV. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007IOHPKY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xtirDbT4KKDY1

You'd have to purchase maps for either the US or the UK, depending on where you buy - most GPS units won't come with both. Something to consider in GPS purchases then is storage space for maps. I recommend something with a few gigs for storage and easy map purchases, like a Garmin.

  • Magellan eXplorist 110 (Amazon - $130)

Glad to help. :-) Don't forget the catalyst.

How would you say those GPSr's you mentioned compare to this? I know it's fairly basic, but it seems to have what I need. Plus it's wrist-mounted so my hands would be free when using it.

Pencils are by far the best method of marking this paper. A cheap ballpoint is probably the only thing I would leave in a cache as all the good pens are too expensive to leave.

This pen from RitR should be good but I have never personally tried it; Rite In The Rain Unisex Metal Clicker Pen, Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000QBPZKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_AI9tDbD8FY2WM

I have a few of those small ikea pencils in my small cache for cachers to use in a pinch.

This looks like the right one for your GPS. Can't say much about it as my GPS is much older so uses a different style mount. But you can't beat the price of this one.

*Edit:
There's some conflicting answers on the Amazon page about whether or not this is for the eTrex 10. Garmin website recommends this product number as well:

To piggyback, this appears to look more like the one pictured. You can search the term "floral water tubes" on google/amazon.

The only knife I ever needed during geocaching is my Swiss Army Signature Knife since it has a pen and tweezers and is small enough to fit in my pocket.

Travel Bugs - I prefer the plain dog tags. My mother got me some large coins, which are nice, but I can't let them go.

Hiking/outdoor equipment - trek pole, muck boots, waders, rain suit, quality bug repellent, kayak, 4x4 Jeep.....

Bag for carrying your stuff - I have one similar to this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MTG35E/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_2_w

There are cheaper versions. Also stuff to go in it; hemostats, pens, flashlight, extendable mirror, pens, multi-tool, battery packs, zip ties, writing paper, pens, ziplock bags, Rite-in-Rain logbooks, tiny screwdriver, gloves, and lastly, pens.

Just be sure to check the battery type. I picked one up and then realized it needed some goofy battery type to work.

Also: Ziploc bags, note pad, pencil, Sharpie, waterproof paper, and (if you are so inclined) a spare log book to replace missing log if applicable.

Edited to add: If it's 12 feet from the ground, there must be a way to climb up and get it since someone put it there. Or to knock it down.
