I have a Dell Ultrasharp

It looks great. I think it's got a nice looking frame and everything. The issue I have is calibrating it. I'm not sure if I suck at it or the retina display is that much better, but making it look as good as my retina display (I'm talking colors) just won't workout.

Seriously, the only screen I've seen that comes close to looking as good as a 15" retina on is some of the 4K tvs at Best Buy.

Stand for the iPad is the Anker Stand

Stand for the iPhone is the Twelve South HiRise

I would highly recommend the HiRise, just a tad confusing to setup. Also, you'll need a cable that is NOT thicker than the original apple charging cable, both my amazon basics and anker cables dont fit into it. So take that into mind. And the Anker one doesn't have anywhere for you to charge but it's foldable and nice if you need to just setup your phone to watch something or whatnot.

Hope that helps!

I know it’s nothing special, but this is my macsetup! I work primarily on video editing projects, some Photoshopping, with some Wordpress website building sprinkled in there. But this setup is used mostly for generic browsing, YouTube/Netflix, and Plex server hosting.

So this is my setup that I’ve built over the course of 4 years.

http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Bluetooth-Ultra-Slim-Keyboard-Devices/dp/B0096M8VR2/ - I wouldn't want to code all day on it, but this is an OK Bluetooth keyboard. http://www.amazon.com/Allsop-Notebook-Redmond-Adjustable-30498/dp/B005IIR9F8 makes for a decent stand, too. I have both, and for the money, they're pretty nice.

If you're set on Bluetooth and want a simple all-in-one setup get these.

However, I have to recommend the Chromecast Audio - so much more reliable than Bluetooth, better sound quality, and easier to connect to. I'd pair it with this amp and these speakers. If you're feeling adventurous go this route but you'll be happy with either coming from Bose.

You can sell the unused monitor on /r/hardwareswap to recuperate some cash. Even if you don't want to get rid of it, I'd still move it so there's space for the speakers and they aren't being blocked.

The stand is a Kensington Easy Riser.
Keeps the MacBook cool and also means I can level up the screen heights

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kensington-SmartFit-Ultrabooks-Chromebooks-Notebooks/dp/B0007YB8NM

Link on Amazon UK, I'm sure they are easily available on US Amazon too.

If you really don't care whether you go Apple Thunderbolt Display or not, you should give some serious consideration to picking up two of these Dells. You could basically get two Dell 27" displays for the price of one Apple display, and the Dells have the same resolution as the Apple.

I currently have an Apple Cinema Display and absolutely love it. I personally plan on picking up a Thunderbolt display in the future since I already have the Cinema Display. However, if I didn't have this Cinema Display already I'd most likely pick up the Dells.

I'm pretty sure you can daisy chain the displays as well, so you would only need to plug one into your MacBook Pro. As for the dock, not sure what to tell you there.

u/kake14 · 3 pointsr/macsetups

The monitor is connected through this Thunderbolt to HDMI cord. I know any MacBooks with a thunderbolt port will output video, but I know that some older models don't output sound. So I'd look into that before you do this if you have an older computer, unless you don't care about sound of course. The only other thing thats plugged into the computer is the charger since Apple requires you to have it connected when using clamshell mode.

The dock is the Rain Design mTower. You don't really need it, but it is really cumbersome to have it just lying on your desk without it.

All in all, I love this setup and I definitely recommend it for you!

Thanks! Here's the headphone stand. It's amazingly sturdy; it's got a nice rubbery base that keeps it almost adhered to the desk. Would recommend.

u/adamdehaven · 2 pointsr/macsetups

I'm struggling with figuring out how to share a Bluetooth mouse between my two Macs, however I use this switch to share my mechanical keyboard. I just manage the wires, but I love it.

Looking for a new monitor arm with hidden cable management

Hey,

I'm looking for a new monitor arm, specifically one that hides/manages cables really well. I have a USB-C monitor, however, I'm on my work laptop at home a few days a week, which requires a couple extra cables and looks a mess when not in use.

Currently it's between the Jarvis Monitor Arm or the AmazonBasics Premium

Does anyone have experience with either of these or something possibly better? Doesn't have to be ergonomic as long as it hides cables really well. Also, black is preferred.

Thanks!

Thanks! I used this VESA mount kit with this wall mount. I also used a Sawzall to cut the iMac stand (which worked surprisingly well).

u/mcorybennett · 2 pointsr/macsetups

I think I found the switch in the imgur comments. Looks like this one:

u/nathanhelms · 1 pointr/macsetups

I'm looking to hang on to it for now. Also, you might want something newer. It's a Dell U2913WM, which came out in 2012.

u/toeguns · 1 pointr/macsetups

I've got this (AmazonBasics Premium Dual Monitor Stand) and this (AmazonBasics Notebook Arm Mount Tray).

EDIT: Added the item descriptions for posterity.

u/rrios_eq · 2 pointsr/macsetups

You can get a TB3 dock (like CalDigit's TS3 Plus: https://www.caldigit.com/ts3-plus) and put it on the shelf near your MBP, then connect the monitors using long cables (e.g., 25ft DP cable) and a USB extension cable (e.g., 20ft USB3.0 cable) and a small USB hub on your desk if you're using a wired keyboard and mouse.

You might be able to get away with using the Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter and then get a long Corning TB2 cable (e.g., 18ft TB2) and a TB2 dock (e.g., Belkin TB2 Express HD dock).

u/notsureiwanttosignup · 4 pointsr/macsetups

I use a henge dock to charge, connect to a thunderbolt dock, connect one of the screens, connect a USB 3.0 hub, and connect the audio plug to my headphones. I use a Belkin thunderbolt dock to connect the other screen, the keyboard, audio for the stereo, ethernet, and a charging dock for my iPhone. The screens are two Dell 27 inch 2560x1440 monitors. The desk if from IKEA, it was about $150.

u/lulaz · 1 pointr/macsetups

I cant find exactly the same one as mine (I bought it long time ago for my previous setup), but its almost the same as this one.

u/Brentley_11 · 2 pointsr/macsetups

This is the stand I have: http://www.amazon.ca/Allsop-Notebook-Redmond-Adjustable-30498/dp/B005IIR9F8 I seem to recall it being cheaper when I first bought it though.

u/RyanCampbell · 1 pointr/macsetups

I was thinking about picking this AOC Display up to replace my old Apple Cinema display from 2006 that has been ghosting a lot recently.

They're kind of a pain in the ass to mount, too. I think Amazon Prime drops the price 20%, could be worth a trial.

Just in case anybody's interested here's what you'd need:
Monitor

Mount Adapter

Aaand just in case you're as salty about a $35 adapter as I was, heres a cheap 'n' sturdy mount arm

u/Asanokyo · 1 pointr/macsetups

The dock itself doesn't add any ports, but since I already had a hub that was a no issue for me. The dock itself is amazingly sturdy as hell. When I drop my rMBP into it, they almost feel like one piece of equipment. The builtin ports helped to keep my usual mess of cables contained better than I had before with my last dock.

Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with it. I was a little hesitant to get it a first because of the price. But I think it was worth it.
