Yeah, the cable is way too short for my situation. The Vive's cable is 5m... after the 1m of cables to the link box. My desktop sits a few feet behind me on the floor and my play area is off to the side. When I first plugged in my Odyssey I could barely even do room setup. Cable length is a big weak spot in MR for cases like mine.

I bought the 10m version of this USB 3.0 extension and used a female-to-female HDMI coupler with a 15' HDMI cable. I haven't tested extensively but so far it seems to work pretty well.

[EDIT] To directly answer your question: no, there are no proprietary cables. There's not even a power cable, which is pretty great!

Im using a dongle and have zero issues. I did pick up one that people recommended on a WMR forum, as I think there are some nuances to which Bluetooth stacks work best. I can share if desired.

Typically you're not supposed to use one but I use one and have zero issues.

I bought both of these and it works flawlessly as far as I can tell. I run an EVGA GTX 1060 6GB.

Also, I own an Odyssey as well.

There are no prescription or adjustable lens mods announced yet for wmr headsets, but you can maybe try this out on your wmr headset. I heard that Gear VR covers work on WMR headsets.

This is probably a better option though.

Hi doppeling,

My name is Geoff, and I'm an engineer working on the Windows Mixed Reality team at Microsoft.

Here is a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that we've tested:

(We're currently in process of updating our documentation online to include DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters alongside our recommendations for MiniDP and USB-C HDMI adapters)

Thanks!

Your GTX 1070 should be able to handle extensions, but maybe not a 12' extension. If you can do without 2', I'd try a 10' cable. I've got a GTX 1080 with a 10' Cable Matters HDMI 2.0 cable rigged up to an IKEA Regolit floor lamp base. From there, I connect my HMDs, whether it's an Oculusu Rift, Lenovo Explorer, or Samsung Odyssey. Haven't had any issues.
