To date, I've bought 40 cases from Custom Game Cases. Like someone else said, the shipping is incredibly slow, but the cases are great quality and they look fantastic.

It's also worth mentioning these cases are slightly different than the generic media cases you can buy en masse online. It's a minor difference, but it's worth nothing.

Edit: I put them on this shelf from Amazon, too. You can set it up with three full height rows and a fourth partial height row. Each of the full height sections can hold exactly 12 games (for 72 total). On the top partial section, I have my four controllers.

Just some extra information no one asked for I thought I'd share anyway. Haha.

You need the red expansion pack for games like 007,Perfect Dark, Castelvania etc.. the games use the pack for higher resolution

You definitely want a memory card to save your games...just not the generic ones

The tremor packs are rumble packs..

There are a couple of controller alternatives...The Hori ....The brawler or the Tribute 64

You also want to pickup the 3.8mm & 4.5 Security Screw Bits to be able to open and clean your system and games

I have to agree with Grooter48. I have the Nintendo 64 Anthology and it is an absolute delight to go through. I was one of the Kickstarter backers (my name's even in the book!) and can tell you that despite some typos and grammatical awkwardness (the author is French so you can't really blame the guy,) it is a must own for us N64 fans. The way it covers the history of the console, its successes and failures, accessories, a couple of developer interviews, and details the entire game library across all regions, makes it an incredibly worthwhile purchase. As for where to get it, I only know Amazon has it listed at around $40. It's currently out of stock but at least you can have a confirmed order waiting to be fulfilled. Here's the link

Oh... Just buy one then.

They are super common, and cost about $3 on amazon, and are probably available at many used game shops. It is the same A/V cable a Gamecube uses, so you might even be able to buy one at some Gamestops. It is also the same A/V cable a Super Nintendo uses, if you happen to have one of those laying around.

Best platform is an original n64 with an everdrive flashcart and a hori pad
The flashcart allows you to write multiple (all if desired) games to the same cart. The controller was a third party Japan only release which is much more sane than the original controller.
Unfortunately these are both on the pricey side and at this rate will not arrive before Christmas so I guess this is more of a future accessories idea.

I had this is as kid:

https://www.amazon.com/SharkPad-Pro-64-Controller-Clear-Purple/dp/B00000K4BT

It doesn't look like it's what you are looking for, though, since the buttons are colored. I enjoyed this controller while I had it. It was a bit thicker and felt better in my late-teen hands. The bad news was that it was typical 3rd party quality and wore out much quicker than a standard N64 controller. Knowing how they've all worn out now, that says a lot. Still, it is a clear case and is bulkier than a normal controller, which can be nice if you have larger hands.

Well, if pressure makes it work, Deoxit might help. It’s great stuff. I own a video game store and use it every day.

I picked up a 30 inch vizio early this year and had no luck with using the comp cables. The only solution that worked for me was hooking up the n64 through the cable coaxial input, I bought an adapter off amazon and it works great (link is below) kind of a bummer, but hope this helps !

I had some small amount of experience with soldering beforehand when I redid about 80-100 NES/SNES/N64 carts with battery holders. After that I successfully transplanted the chips from a broken Goldeneye board to a donor board. I did all of the carts with just a desoldering iron (https://www.amazon.com/ECG-J-045-DS-Electric-Soldering-Temperature/dp/B00068IJSG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504568020&sr=8-3&keywords=desoldering+iron), no soldering iron because of necessity. I did the Goldeneye switch with just a cheapo soldering iron though. One tip - the solder on the carts is a little hard to melt. It helps to add a bit of fresh solder to the existing joint to help melt the old solder.

To open the N64 you'll want to use something like this: bit

I purchased a set of those bits on Amazon several years ago. They were decent quality. You'll want to read the reviews before you purchase. You might even try searching ebay.

The thermal pads could be replaced with thermal paste. The only reason pads were used is because theyre slightly adhesive and they held on the little aluminum heatspreader blocks

As far as thickness, pretty sure theres only one thickness of thermal pads

I cant find the size of these, but they should work fine

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Heatsink-Thermal-Pads-HSFPHASECM/dp/B0009B0K2I

the 64 hardly makes heat, its literally a couple watts.

My guess is it's dirty. You can try cleaning the games but the console itself may need a cleaning. I found a cleaning kit on amazon that'll clean the console itself http://www.amazon.com/N64-Cleaning-Kit-nintendo-64/dp/B00002STFY

If it doesn't fix it, well, it doesn't cost too much money. And you can re-use it forever so it's worth having.

Sounds to me like you just need an RF cable.
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-27226-Velocity-Mini-Coax/dp/accessories/B0002J24PI

does that look right? it should go from the back of your tv into the black box output.

I have a nyko hyper pak plus. Works well. 2 rumble settings and 4 memory cards in 1 unit.

They go for about $100USD used on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-64-Hori-Mini-Pad-Controller/dp/B000031KAG

At these prices you get 40% more Hori for your moly.

u/thehauntedmattress · 2 pointsr/n64

I was waiting for someone to ask about that. It's an Interact DexDrive. It's used to connect a controller pak to a PC so that you can backup your save data. The problem is it only reads one (the black one that is inserted into it) of my four paks.
