The best choice is the Slingbox 350. $89 at amazon with Prime shipping. No HDMI support with the 350- but it has component and does 1080p. Component is better for the slingbox than HDMI because it prevents any cablebox/dvd player from turning on the copy-protected flag on content preventing playback. TV shows such as game of thrones can be disabled from playing on a Slingbox with HDMI because of the copy flag. On component cables- you won't have those problems and still get 1080p.

I have both the PRO-HD and the 500. While the 500 is much more user friendly I think the pro hd delivers a pretty darn good HD stream and for a fraction of the cost.

Just got the 500 on refurb and needed this to use the HDMI output of my cable box, so I pick up this lil splitter. Working like a champ! I have one output to the TV in my guest room, and the other to the Slingbox, which is hooked up via looong HDMI to a TV in the next room (office). The LEDs on it are really bright, I may tape over or remove them completely.

I'm using a Slingbox 500 with my Spectrum cable box (HDMI only) and I can confirm that this HDMI strips HDCP, allowing you to stream via HDMI from your Slingbox.

If you're only steaming cable, I wouldn't worry about HDMI 2.0. We're not taking 10-bit HDR, 4k, or high-frame rate content, but rather super compressed cable at max 1080i60.

The option I would probably go with is to get her a Boxee Box. Here is an Amazon Link.

That can accept the Slingbox stream and display it directly on the TV using a simple remote control.

The nice thing is you can also plug an HD OTA antenna into it. This will allow her to watch all of the local stuff for free that is being sent over the air.

This should eliminate some of the headaches involved with streaming the TV to the slingbox. Those headaches being latency, potential bandwidth issues or limitations, etc. Some of which might not happen all the time but may pop up occasionally.

You can also let her use your Netflix and/or Hulu Plus account on the Boxee Box too.

So she should have plenty of options.

"Yes, Streaming on LAN (home network) does not use the WAN connection once the connection is established. assuming that your Slingbox is fully configured. This means everything within your network is properly configured for and connected to your LAN." http://support.slingbox.com/KB/KB-2000575

I'd recommend The EZ-Bridge-Lite EZBR-0214+ https://www.amazon.com/EZ-Bridge-Lite-EZBR-0214-Outdoor-Wireless-System/dp/B002K683V0?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_dp to get the signal to your barn.

Did you get this resolved?

I had my 350 set up in my parents extra room, to a little receiver. It had hdmi and component out. I simply had one going to the TV. and the other component cables going to the slingbox. They recently changed their boxes to HDMI out only. I bought a converter, and it didnt work well. I tried an hdmi splitter too. nothing seemed to work.

When I try : cable box (hdmi) -> hdmi/component converter -> slingbox component input -> slingbox component output -> TV.... the Tv does get audio and video. It seems the pass through is working. It just does not want to stream.

I ordered a different converter to see if that helps. (this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R19BG7O/r)

I have the Insignia NS-55DF710NA19 and it has a Slingbox app https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FQ24C67/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think any TV with FireTV built in will work.

I have gone through a few splitters and they seem to work for a while then stop working. Ironically enough, my current setup is not working right now. I might end up throwing in the towel.

I am currently using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J2Q9NPH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I figured I would try it out last night and of course it doesn't work. I can run the HDMI right to the component converter and it streams through the app. SO that would indicate the converter is not the issue. However, the app also says "Failed to load Gallery items". Not sure what that is all about.

I had the splitter replaced thinking it went bad, but the replacement now does the same thing. Not sure where to turn at this point. I might try to use four identical cables between each device (X1 box, HT Receiver, splitter and converter).

I wonder if I can use the HDMI passthrough on my Pioneer Elite receiver to run direct to the converter and bypass the splitter.

The SB300 used to be compatible with Fire TV. Unfortunately, Sling recently deleted the Fire TV app from the Amazon appstore, so currently there aren't any Slingboxes that work with Fire TV (unless you installed the app before it was deleted.)

The app has disappeared and reappeared before, so it's possible that it will come back again. If it does, I assume it will still work with the SB300.
