I love this! Thank you so much for working on this project!
Here are my suggestions please add what you feel is appropriate :)
FICTION
A Door Near Here by Heather Quarles. - it's about a family with an alcoholic mother from the children's point of view. As an ACOA (adult child of an alcoholic) it's quite realistic as far as the mother's behavior.
A Wrinkle in Time - includes father/daughter relationships, sibling relationships and self esteem.
Push Inspiration for the movie Precious. I love this book but it is a tough one to read.
NON FICTION:
Hospice related: Final Gifts I also recommend this one to families of a dying loved one
My Mother Myself mother daughter relationships
Will I Ever be Good Enough. Another book about mother-daughter relationships but focuses on dealing with mothers with narcissistic behaviors.
Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayad
The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman.
Hyperbole and a Half Funny as fuck and talks about depression.
I do have a list of caregiver books that I give to loved ones of someone on hospice. I'm too lazy to look it up right now lol but if there's interest let me know and I'll post it.
Also, is there any interest in a social work related podcasts wiki? I know quite a few that deal with issues we work with such as alcoholism, addiction, recovery etc.

This is the book we used in our crisis intervention class in grad school, though it looks like there is a new edition of it. I liked it, easy to read.

I found it so helpful in my practice.
Confronting Injustice and Oppression by David Gil
It is about "radical"/politcally active social work (aka what social work should be).
Please take a look at SW Professor Leroy Pelton's "For Reasons of Poverty"
https://www.amazon.com/Reasons-Poverty-Critical-Analysis-Welfare/dp/0275930734/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524183868&sr=8-1&keywords=for+reasons+of+poverty+pelton
it is comprehensive and excellent - speaking as a former CPS involved youth, and as a former case manager to teen parents-CPS involved. Also recommend
"Heroes of Their Own Lives" by social welfare historian Linda Gordon https://www.press.uillinois.edu/books/catalog/45bky7nz9780252070792.html and
"The Color of Welfare" by Jill Quadigano - social welfare historian.

Back to SW academics Mimi Abramovitz "Regulating the Lives of Women" and also "Under Attack, Fighting Back".
As a worker, it was a revelation to me to learn that CPS is funded via Social Security Act - that it was initially conceptualized as poverty relief, and then stretched to address not only poverty-related neglect, but also violence against children, and neglect unrelated to poverty.
We have never established a child welfare system that is actually intended to address intentional violence against kids. At the same time, we oppose creating a "floor" to poverty for philosophical reasons... but we do expect parents to get their kids economic needs met, and way to often - most of the time - CPS is being used to address what are fundamentally financial problems - while staff are being trained and resourced to address behavioral problems, instead of financial ones. Learning about this really helped me understand what I experienced, and what I saw happening for families.
