I think it's only some of the Sandisks cruzers that have that problem. My current Tails drive is one of these and it works perfectly.
I do advise people to stay away from the cruzers in general though - I think it's just luck that I picked one that works.
I don't know if this is the best one, but it seems to work well with Tails.

This is the line I am using. Just be sure to get whichever size you want (minimum 4GB) and that you'll need two. I went with one 4GB for the temp and 32GB for the permanent.

Some Macs don't have compatible internal wifi adapters so you need to use an external USB-wifi adapter like this one.
No, the issue is that Tails uses an old kernel and many modern Wireless adapters aren't supported.
Buy an Atheros card, these are 100% supported. I'm using one of these which works in Tails (and can do packet injection if you ever become interested in Wireless penetration / hacking) :

I got one of these for 95 bucks and it works well all around.
Only thing I don't like about it is that you can't boot from the built in sd card reader.
