Nice layout you've got there! Yeah, sticking a Wall Connector right in the middle of that street-facing exterior wall would work great. You'll probably want the 24' cable, though, as the 8.5' might be inconveniently short unless you choose to back in.

> Mobile Connector on a locking NEMA 14-50 outlet to using a hardwired Wall connector" - any links to explain what that is?

Sure thing. I linked the hardwired Wall Connector above. That's a $500 piece of hardware that is a dedicated Tesla car charger. You stick that on the end of a 240V electrical circuit of just about any amperage, and you can effortlessly charge your Tesla off it.

The other option is to stick something that looks like this to the side of your wall. That's a NEMA 14-50 outlet, which requires a 50A circuit, into which you can plug the Tesla Mobile Connector, which comes with your car. Though you'll need the 14-50 adapter for it, which is no longer included for free.

If you go with the NEMA outlet option, you'll be limited to charging at 32A, because that's the maximum amperage that the Mobile Connector supports. The Wall Connector supports up to 80A, which will let you charge your Performance Model 3 at its maximum rate of 48A. No other option I know of gives 48A. I'd expect a P3D to get around ~25 miles per hour charge rate on 32A, and ~40mph on 48A.

And if you go with the Mobile Connector/NEMA outlet option, you'll probably want to either pack your mobile connector into your car when it isn't parked there (very inconvenient) or set up a custom rig to lock the thing onto your house, to prevent theft. Perhaps a locking garden hose closet or something, with the plug end of the connector coming out a hole in the side, so you don't need to unlock it to plug in. You can't just lock the NEMA Socket itself, though, because only the adapter stays inside that part, and the adapter can be easily disconnected from the rest of the Mobile Connector.

Also, if you go with the NEMA option, I'm fairly sure you'll have a harder time updating to a second EV. You'll need to run a separate circuit for a separate charger, rather than simply connecting a second Wall Connector to the existing circuit. Or you could just charge on alternating days, which will work fine if you don't have a horrendous commute, and not require the addition cost of a second Wall Connector and a large circuit.

> fortune

It would only cost you a fortune if you have to buy them. If you are Tesla and you are making those packs IN HOUSE then the cost will be much less. Plus easier to maintain them with your own experience staff. Tesla could essentially run a fully autonomous semi company and rip in huge profits moving items of all kinds around. Another thing is that semis+their vessels are very long and wide. Long and wide is perfect for solar panels. If they are fully autonomous and run all day long the sun could help out by some degree from continously charging. The more length and width the more solar panels you can place.

  • Looks like the trailer by itself is 53' feet long

  • What is the average length of a tractor trailer? | Reference.com
  • A: The interior dimensions of a 53-foot trailer are 630 inches x 102 inches x 110 inches (length x width x height).

Here is a 100 watt solar panel:
  • Product Dimensions 47 x 1.4 x 21.3 inches

So that is 47 inches long. 630÷47=13.4 So you'd be able to fit 13 and a half 100 watt panels on top. That is 1350 watts per hour. width of the solar panel is 21 inches. 102÷21= 4.8 So that is 4.8 rows of 13 and a half solar panels. I'm not the best at math but that would give you 1350×4.8=6480 watts per hour. That is almost 6.4k watts

Plus also this is just using a regular home solar panel. Tesla could make a more specialized panel that utilizes the space better with less losses. They could do so many more things to specialize the panel and therefore get more solar power out of it. So that 6.4k watts per hour figure could increase perhaps as high as 8.0k watts per hour or maybe more?

This is with out even taking the trailer truck portion into consideration (Where the driver used to be. Remember Autonomous.) Plus also you have the SIDES of the trailer though those won't be as effective as the top due to angle, but can still be used. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 12.0k watts per hour through solar power with a trailer. Perhaps even higher like 15.0k watts.

Sure it won't keep the trailer moving indefinitely, BUT it should increase the range of the trailer by some degree. Again if they could reach a figure like 10.0k watts in solar power per hour it should definitely help with the range of the trailer.

    -edit-
I am bad at math I did mess it up

A good car vacuum and Tesla All Weather Floor Mats would be good. You can use kick mats to help protect the back of your seats from being kicked. Microfiber towels and window cleaner would be good to have to wipe all the tiny fingerprints off the window too. Good luck!

u/GuardiansBeer · 2 pointsr/teslamotors

Based on the feedback so far, I'm leaning toward the Sandisk Ultra Fit.

In order of importance, my decision factors...

  • The small form factor will reduce the chance of me hitting it accidentally and possibly breaking the port.

  • It is fairly cheap at $19 for 64GB version. This allows me to store at least 1 day of video and reduce the number of re-writes.

  • The write-speed is not a factor, but USB 3.0 should be more future proof if Tesla changes the system, or if i re-purpose the drive to another task. If you want the older version with 2.0, it is even less expensive.

  • Endurance doesn't seem to be a popular concern, so ignoring it for now. I am slightly concerned with operating temperature [32°F to 113°F (0°C to 45°C)] and storage temp [14°F to 158°F (-10°C to 70°C)], but we'll see how it goes this winter. Those more further north than me can report in if they have success or failure.

  • I also ignored the WiFi capability because if i need to unplug the device, there is no reason to use it. I'm still curious if SD based cards like the Toshiba Flash Air W-04 would have a different behavior. I bought one for my digital camera, so i'll give it a try in the Tesla too. The cost is significantly higher, but if i can access dash cam videos from my cell phone and before getting home and without unplugging, that would be a big plus. (also need to find the right SD to USB adapter.)

Thanks for helping me think it out.

Myself and a number of other owners have opted for this cover that goes under the car seat. That said, the white seats are super easy to take care of - I don't consider this a must-have and not all car seats are designed to work on top of a seat cover.

I do think some sort of cover for the seat backs (protecting the back of the diver's seat) is a must. Perhaps something like this

u/adamsjdavid · 1 pointr/teslamotors

P3D- all the way. If you don't plan on actually tracking the car (or intend to go like, once or twice), there's honestly no need for performance brakes, performance wheels, and performance suspension. Just leads to more money at replacement time, more pothole potential, and more scraping potential. Stealth gets you the important benefits of Performance for a fraction of the price.

I ordered a P3D- and I have Pedal Covers to take care of all the functional aspects I care about.

The $39 mud flaps on amazon fit PERFECT on my SR+ :) I would have bought them from Tesla if they had offered them before. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V36S77Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Same issue here.

I had this SanDisk since April.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BGTG41W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was only using the dashcam and that seemed to work well. Then, I decided to start using the Sentry mode and after the latest update saw this same error.

So, I did a bit of research and found this solid state flash drive with a tested ~260MB/s write speed.

So, I decided to order this to see how it works. It also has good reviews, so I have some confidence.

I ordered this one. It's wireless. So you can stream the videos directly to your phone without having to unplug it. Works with Android, iPhone, laptops etc... It's made by SanDisk so it should work great. I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm hoping it works as advertised.

Our car seat doesn’t slide at all. I have a very nice seat protector which I bought when we had a bmw. Then when we got the tesla I moved it over. I use both latch points and the tether for the top hook. Also I put all my weight down on the car seat while I tighten the latch strap. No problems here other then having to dust off my leather seat anytime I remove the car seat for other reasons.

FYI this is the seat protector I purchased and highly recommend it. It’s well worth the extra premium vs Chinese crap. Doesn’t stain leather. I removed the blue inserts on mine

Despite just ordering my car as well. I've heard recommendations because of the size/look. It's almost flush.

u/Mohevian · 4 pointsr/teslamotors

I hope you're joking.

One human unit of power is equivalent to 600 watt-hours. A "decent" electric car has a 60,000 watt hour battery bank (60 KWh).

The smallest decent portable solar panel is about 100W in size.

So after a full day's worth of charging (sun and no clouds) for six hours on your exercise bike in the woods, you'd be at 1.05 KWh, or 1.75% of battery charge.

According to random internet forums, that would get you about 3 miles of driving in the woods.

u/Davecasa · 9 pointsr/teslamotors

FAT32 supports drives up to 16 TB. These USB drives come with a single 128 GB FAT32 partition already created on them.

Edit: Someone below reported that they received this drive as EXFAT. I got 3 of them last week as FAT32, so your mileage may vary.

Get something like this over your outlet, it's designed to shield the plug from the elements.

Another option is something like this, that has the 14-50 receptacle built in, has a cutout under so the UMC cord pops out from the bottom, and is lockable as well.

Beyond that, the UMC is water/snow proof, it will handle the Chicago winters just fine.

If you are worried though, you could also just get the HPWC, it's also designed for the outside world, and stands up to the worst weather conditions as well.

I bought the Basenor for $40 bucks (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V36S77Y/r ), but if I had to do it again I would buy these A-Premium ones for $20 because they have a longer part that protects more of the bottom of the car (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07W6NZ25H/).

I've been toying with the idea of buying different mud flaps that are flat and are less likely to rub on the paint, but they are usually over $100 in price. There are some carbon fiber ones (I hate carbon fiber). Instead, I would get these from a Canadian (site in French-Canadian, use Google Translate to read it) in the Midwest size (3 different sizes) but they cost $150 (https://evmudflaps.com/).
