My favorite stand for the MSP16 turned out to be an old Keynamics Aviator that I bought over 12 years ago to go with a massive HP mobile workstation- It's inexpensive, super stable, very compact when disassembled, and cantilevers over the edge of the desk to put the drawing surface in the perfect spot for me. I used to use it with my Wacom Cintiq 12wx many moons ago as well.

The 'hooks' in the front that hold the tablet are pretty much exactly as high as the MSP16 is thick so they don't get in the way of my drawing hand at all. I can post photos of my setup when I get back home if anyone is interested.

Here's the product:

There's an $80 converter that Wacom officially said works, but I'm also currently looking to resolve this exact issue for my fiance and her laptop, and have found a POSSIBLE solution ( https://www.amazon.com/uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook-Pixelbook/dp/B075V5JK36/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519980480&sr=1-8&keywords=USB-C+to+HDMI ), and just posted here asking if people think this solution would work. It's a lot cheaper solution, and when you invest that much into something, you want to save as much as you can after! Lol. If I hear back before I see a response here, I'll definitely let you know!

You're just taking notes and drawing diagrams, so a cheaper brand will be fine - Wacom is the gold standard for professional applications because of their support and quality, but you pay for it (My Intuos 3 is in perfect working order after 10 years of heavy use). You will be served well with somethine like a Monoprice or one of the Chinese brands (Huion, XP Pen, etc.).

Check this one out: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B072TZ1WQ2/

I wouldn't suggest getting one that's too small - 10x6" is a good size.

  1. Touch is a gimmick, even after I year I still struggle to lift my pen high enough to leverage rotating, zooming the canvas, it's easier to keep my mouse on the tablet since my other hand is always on the keyboard. I can operate the mouse with the pencil still in my hand to zoom and rotate as needed. I could also assign keyboard shortcuts to do the same operations. One good thing is that touch only works perfectly with Mac OS, if you need a break from the mouse I have found this to be very functional with gestures. Cannot say the same for Windows (even Windows 10)

  2. I hate the pen, the 2 button is terrible no way to tell which button you are pressing, the buttons are also in too close to the tip. I just rotate the buttons out of sight and mind. Good thing you CANNOT USE ANY OTHER PEN on this tablet.. yeah Wacom I love you.... My 1999 Graphire let me use various pens :(.

  3. Good luck on those "software" packages with it. Their registration system was broken and may still be, took 3 weeks for support to get back to me and told me I needed the receipt, gave up after that.

Here is what I'd say, I have another Wacom from 1999, the original Wacom Graphire, still works and has all the same features plus an eraser tip... The surface was replaceable and its worked on every version of Windows and Mac I've even owned.

So go with what iroll20s said, there is nothing new here and hasn't been for a long time, they just keep rebranding this damn thing. I've already lost my USB cable and the surface is getting more and more scratched, and there is no path to fix this. I went through hell finding a USB cord that fits this stupid port.

    Here is a Graphire4 for $30 USD... https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000BBE9DM/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used

here is the previous gen, with what I would say is a FAR better pen and still had touch for $100 USD... https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos-Medium-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B00MJSAIH6

There are other brands but overall the drawing feel is never been matched compared to Wacom products and don't get me wrong they last and it easy to find nibs and pens. Sp keep that in mind.

Hi, I'm new here and going through all posts trying to evaluate if I should keep the CP16 I just received. I ordered with a local store and the return policy is not that flexible once I open the box. I would be kinda screwed if it doesn't work :(

Thanks for all the infos and videos so far.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2014) that should support 4K at 60Hz.
According to the info from this tread, I should be able to connect via the Wacom link using a Mini DP to Mini DP (or simply Thunderbolt, but more expensive).
Sounds about right?

There are not so many (mini DP to Mini DP) out there, more likely Mini DP to DP.
This would be the cheaper version compared to a Thunderbolt cable. or would there be any reason to get a Thunderbolt cable?

I'm not 100% aware on how to connect the Cintiq Pro 16. If I don't use the Wacom link, for what ever reason, would I need to use each USB-C of the tablet (power, monitor, pen).

And did everyone get it to work after all?

Thanks for any feedback. Cheers

I have a cintiq 24, for my solution I originally used a blue tooth keyboard turned sideways and sticky velcro pads, it would go up to the edge of the screen but not cover it.

I've since switched it to a nostromo and velcro. Mostly because I could use macros and didn't need so many keys plus I enjoy using the wheel on the device to adjust brush size.

Something like these. That way you can pull it off and use the keyboard on the desk if you want to do some actual typing.

it is odd it knocks out the laptop display when connected, if it only shows the mouse cursor but no display, it must be the video connection that's at fault. I assume the switch on the wacom box is set to dvi?

i'd like to know what cable it is that you are using, on page 13 of the manual it shows the dvi connection on the back of the wacom box.

https://www.wacom.com/-/media/wacomdotcom/files/store-manuals/legacy-models/cintiq12wx-usermanual-final.pdf

on the hdmi-dvi cable, does it have the extra pins on the side as the dvi-i cable or does it look like dvi-d? the wacom box shows a dvi-i connector. dvi cables are shown on page 12

Update!

looking further into your problem, it looks like it is better to use the dvi cable they provided and use an adapter that is hdmi to dvi (female) and connect the provided dvi cable into it and other end in to the wacom box.

searching the questions for wacom brought up this

Q: I have a wacom cintiq 12wx - will this connect that dvi to the hdmi port on my mbp and work?A: Hi,

Using our HDDVIMF8IN to go from a HDMI source to the Wacom Cintiq 12WX should work for you.

For portability purposes, the 16" version should fit well in most 17" laptop backpacks or cases. I picked up this backpack and it fits perfectly.

Really loving this stand for my 13" I purchased it as a cheaper alternative and it's pretty fantastic! Solid build metal and feels sturdy to work on.

I've had my eyes on the new Microsoft Surface keyboard becasue I like the sleek design https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQ0SB7Z?ref_=ams_ad_dp_asin_2 but since it is a bit out of my price range I am using the Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard that someone's already mentioned on here... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NPH9I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SbvqybWV8CGZT

I use a thin screen protector that is slightly matte, which gives just a little texture to the surface. The current one I'm using is this one.

Just remember if you're going to apply a screen protector:

  • Apply the screen protector in a humid room, like a bathroom with the door closed after taking a shower. This helps more than any other technique I've found to cut down on dust getting behind the protector.

  • Clean the screen really well with a dry microfiber cloth beforehand

  • Whether you can see any dust or not, use tape (usually comes with the screen protector) to pull up any dust from the screen.

  • Take your time applying the screen protector.

Realize that if you haven't done this before you might mess it up the first time. Some of the screen protectors come in packs of 2 or 3, so you get more than one chance to get it right.

That is actually a really good idea. After posting I was considering getting something like this.

I've been using the "Logitech G13 Programmable Gameboard with LCD Display" for the same reason and I've found its great for people who might have problems with cramped hands from using keyboard shortcuts. Might be worth checking out yourself as well if your are into these things.

I have this set I've used for Cintiqs in the past, I'm hoping I can use some of the pieces somehow to rig something up. If not then I'm gonna be using my arm on my monitor instead until May lol

I would recommend using a complete cable that goes from DP to mini-DP, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Mini-DisplayPort-Cable-Feet/dp/B013PWQPFS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1490995544&sr=8-6&keywords=mini+dp+to+dp

For a few reasons:

  1. That amazon one claims to be VESA certified (those are the people that make the displayport specification)
  2. Every connection introduces noise and does not transmit the signal as well as a solid copper cable.
  3. You're introducing an extra 3 feet using that adapter. The longer the cable the more the signal degrades.
u/egypturnash · 2 pointsr/wacom

I have a 13". I also have some wire display stands I use when I'm showing my stuff at comic cons. I took a spare one, bent the bottom straight, and taped it to the back.

It's a little hard to stick it into my bag like this but it works incredibly well to prop it up, and is very light.

Not sure that link is the actual stand, they come in multiple sizes. Right brand though.

Buying a Cintiq 13HD. Want advice on whether or not I should buy the accessories which I am. Here is what I'm getting:

  1. I am buying this protective case to prevent scratches on my screen and buildup of dirt or dust. Is this a good case? Is there a significantly better/mainstream one that I should use instead?
  2. I am buying this screen protector to further prevent scratches. Is using a screen protector a good idea? Is this screen protector of high quality?
u/gomp_lomp · 1 pointr/wacom

Would it work if I bought a USB C to HDMI cable? Something like this.

u/kernelpumpkin · 1 pointr/wacom

I teach math and use a Wacom CTH 680 (slightly older model) for lots of handwritten solutions and notes, etc.

They currently have them refurbished on Amazon, by way of Adorama for $100ish:

I have a Lenovo X230. Which has a mini DisplayPort. And so far, I don't know the cable to get 4K out of it. But the key is to get a mini DisplayPort to mini Display Port that supports 4K.

My guess is the following cable, but I am yet to try it or know anyone who did:-

For my 16", I'm using this keyboard which I just bought for this device: Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard (Dark Grey) (920-007558) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NPH9I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SbvqybWV8CGZT

I'm using this mouse too, which I already had from my Surface 3: Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse Surface Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FG7MZP0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FdvqybT80JH42

u/xILightIx · 1 pointr/wacom

This pen is heavier.

http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos-Carrying-Case-KP503E/dp/B00I9YQDWS

The only problem is it is the size of a sharpie marker.

u/acceptallsubstitutes · 1 pointr/wacom

Sure thing! The cable I got still works. I picked up this one in particular:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TSTDI0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

No problems with it so far other than needing to tie it since it's a little long.
