I keep reading comments like these and it's fair enough if you don't think it's worth it to you, as there is at least a $100 to $150 price tag to 'try out' the Kinect (with the console, or purchased separately).

That being said, unless you've already extensively used the Kinect at a friend's place or something, saying "you wouldn't use it anyways" when you have never used it is pretty dismissive of the new tech. There were tons (TONS) of posts on this sub when the Xbox One first came out (where Kinect wasn't an option) about people saying how they didn't think they would use it, or they were actually upset they had to buy it with the Xbox One, and after using it for a few days or weeks, all of a sudden they love it, they use it all the time, and use it in ways they didn't think they would. Just search this sub for "Kinect" in the post title and check out some of the interesting anecdotes people have if you're interested.

Like I said, it's your money, so it's up to you if you wanted to get it. If it's not worth the extra $100-$150 to you with the console, then I highly recommend you try it elsewhere or purchase it when it drops in price later in the Xbox One console's life-cycle. I thought it would be 'cool new tech' when it was released, but it's fully changed how I interact with the Xbox and use it as my main entertainment hub in the living room. I definitely could not go without the functionality of the Kinect now.

Main useful tip for a console w/o Kinect, is double tapping the xbox home button brings up the snap/unsnap option, and if you're in game, double tap the home button and hit x to record the last 30 seconds of your gameplay. You can also snap game DVR > select end clip now > and choose up to the last 5 minutes of gameplay to record. Also, since you're Kinectless, I highly recommend the Xbox One Media Remote. It has additional buttons for bringing up the OneGuide (Xbox TV Guide), it's backlit, small and you don't have to worry about your controller turning off to rewind/fast forward/pause Netflix, TV, etc.

Also, download the Xbox One Smartglass app on your phone/tablet if you haven't already. It's incredibly useful for typing anything on the console, and for watching game clips, reorganizing your pins, sending/reading messages, or purchasing games and having them auto-download to your xbox at home when you're out.

Just my 2 cents. I hope you're enjoying your new console!

u/thebuggalo · 47 pointsr/xboxone

The Media Remote has been a GREAT accessory for me. Not having to turn on my controller when I just want to navigate Netflix is wonderful. The remote itself looks nice and feels great in the hand.

It can even control DVR functions now so it can just about replace my cable remote. I think it's one of the best purchases I've made for the Xbox One, as I use it every day and am always glad I have it.

EDIT: By DVR Functions, I meant FF, RW and Play/Pause.

Hey there, I'd definitely recommend Eneloops as well, I've been using them for about 4-5 years now.

I personally use the Panasonic Eneloop Pro's. The higher capacity is nice, you get a bit more mileage which for only a bit more money. The other brand I had in the past, but lost them around the house were Sanyo Eneloop XX. Overall the Panosonics are better as far as price and have bit more juice in them as well.

Pair an 8-pack of batteries with a good charger.

My charger is this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RSOV50/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Might be a bit of overkill, but I like all the smart charge features and options: autoshutoff/discharge/automated discharge then recharge/, it allows though you could easily find something cheaper; just make sure it's compatible with this type of battery.

Just make sure if you're shopping for bargin's on the batteries and you'll find them I'm sure, is that you're buying legit Eneloops. Believe it or not there are plenty of knock-offs or just busted brands that try to cash in.

Any Xbox compatible 3.5mm Jack headset can be used with the official Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. They are about £16 ($20?) on Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/). This plugs into the rectangular port on the bottom of the controller, and gives you mute, chat / game balance, and volume up / down buttons. It's very simple to use, and gives you full control over the volume balance for game and chat.

You can also get aftermarket pads from PDP, which have a 3.5mm socket for any Xbox compatible headset with a 3.5mm Jack, and they have a special dedicated button by the right thumb stick, which when double tapped, mutes the mic, and when held down, turns the D-Pad into a volume up / down and chat / game balance control.

This is what I use, and it is so easy to adjust game and chat volume on the fly, I'm actually surprised MS don't do something similar - it's such an intuitive way of doing it. One thing though, is that I don't know whether PDP do a wireless pad with this feature, (I'd have to google it) as the ones I've seen on Amazon are wired (as is mine). They are only about £35 / $40 or less though, and the cable means the controller is light, and never runs out of battery! :D

Edit - Had a look and can't find a wireless version, but this is the one I have, and I am very pleased with it, cable is nice and long, and fits securely. It feels a bit different to a regular controller, some things better, some things worse. The home button is much easier to use, but the triggers are flatter. Buy from Amazon with free delivery and try it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Afterglow-Prismatic-Wired-Controller-Xbox-x/dp/B00ZJRHSRW/

> I really want to get a headset for the Xbox One that supports surround sound.

This is my scolding. Surround sound can only be surround when it is set up to be surround. Multiple speakers one inch away from your ear is not a surround setup and will not create surround, audio-postprocessing softwares does it - by changing the sound patterns from different directions, to simulate it.

Surround headsets seem to go for $160+ on Amazon. With that budget you can get something wayyy better.

Adapter: XBox Stereo Adapter ($25)

Microphone: Antlion Modmic ($50)

HyperX Cloud II. I've personally owned the HyperX Cloud 2's for over a year and they're amazing. They're a little over your budget, as the cheapest price I found online was about $100, but they're well worth it. If you search around the subreddit, you'll see these are very popular and highly regarded. You can also look at the HyperX CloudX. These came out after I purchased my Cloud 2's, but these add an additional inline volume and mic mute control to the cable. They appear to the be exactly the same as the Cloud II's in every respect otherwise. I do really miss having an easily accessible mute switch in my Cloud 2's to quickly mute the mic in certain situations. You also get a hardshell carrying case which is nice, my Cloud 2's only came with a cheaper soft shell pouch.

u/Btrips · 2 pointsr/xboxone

Yeah I bought these and they're pretty great. However they only replace the outer grips, the inner part of the grips will still peel off, which is what happened to me. The best solution I found was buying this silicone wrap, it's only $10 and it's pretty comfortable too.

u/AnonymoustacheD · 1 pointr/xboxone

I know you specifically said base but I highly recommend changing your entire life over to rechargeable eneloop aa's. You'll save a lot of money in the long run since they last for over 1000 charges. Get a good charger like this La Crosse Technology BC-700 Alpha Power Battery Charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RSOV50/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_nmyOub154D833

I hope to god that links. Not sure how to do it on ialien.

u/MathTheUsername · 4 pointsr/xboxone

Mic monitoring was a necessity for me as well, but I ended up just getting open back headphones instead so I could hear myself talk without the need for monitoring. Open back headphones also typically have a better soundstage as well, meaning better directional sound. Great for games.

I use a pair of Philips SHP9500

with a vmoda mic

u/OneGrumpyUncle · 1 pointr/xboxone

Try this one its massive and inexpensive but works great. I have one and another external drive from western digital and both work great but this one has a huge capacity for its price.

u/Goosebeans · 1 pointr/xboxone

Pretty much. I'm using the HyperX Cloud II, so I had to take the 4-pole male and have it split to two 3.5mm male to separate the mic and sound using a headset to PC adapter. I'm using something like this.

Here's a wiring diagram with a Modmic.

To get the chat to work appropriately, you need to smash the party button on the chat adapter until it's 100% party (it beeps).

Here's a link to another thread on the subject if it helps for point of reference.

*Edit: If X1 supported generic USB audio like the PS4, this is what the wiring diagram would look like. So much cleaner and no cables anchoring the wireless controller.

I have two actually, a 7200 rpm 2 TB Touro that they no longer make but I loved:

http://www.touropro.com/en/product/touro-s/index.html

So I bought the 8 TB Gamedrive to add to the 2TB. I absolutely love the Gamedrive. It has two USB on it to charge controllers or plug in keyboards and other accesories:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072QH2JCL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

*I'm not sure if the Gamedrive has 5400 or 7200 in it as I've seen two different tear downs of it and one had 5400 and the other had 7200 in it but I have zero problems with running games off of it.

I love the gamedrive.

Don't get the S model. The S comes with a surround sound dongle that is worthless imo. It totally destroys the surround sound and, as this post alludes to, you can't use a USB sound card on xbox one anyways. The revolver is the same model but doesn't have the dongle and I think it's also missing a couple of plastic pieces meant to cut down on the metal reverberation.

However, for around the same price point, consider the HD 598 SR which is a much better headphone and also has a mic. Looks like the price is high atm but it comes down to around $130 if you don't mind waiting.

If you want a better headphone than the hyperx revolver but don't want to pay for/wait for the HD 598, the SHP9500s are a good set and you can combine em with a boom pro to get the microphone functionality. This will be better sound quality both in the mic and the headphones and will be about the same price as the revolver based on current amazon prices.

That's not to say the revolver is bad though. Note too that the two I recommended are less bass heavy and more focused on mids & treble so may be less 'fun'.

HyperX has great headsets. I just got the Stinger the other day and I haven't had any issues. Sound is great and it's really comfortable. It doesn't have as many features as their more expensive headsets like a detachable mic but it works great for the price.

I'm out of town for the weekend but I'm pretty sure I have this exact one.

https://www.amazon.com/HD-102-Powered-Splitter-Certified-Support/dp/B005HXFARS

I have my cable box -> splitter -> Xbox HDMI in. I've had this splitter for at least 3 years. I originally got it when I was in college so I could have an awesome man cave. Found out later that it strips the hdcp and allowed me to stream my cable TV to my windows tablet from my xbox. Heres a link for a little more info on hdcp stripping.

I recommend the free Xbox One Smartglass app. They have it for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

If you don't have a smartphone or tablet, I'd highly recommend the Xbox One Media Remote. I use mine every day and love it.

I would suggest the hyper X cloud 2. I have had headsets that are cheaper and headsets that are several hundred dollars more (Astro) and I can assure you the sound quality is on par with more expensive headphones, the comfort is the best in gaming headset, the mic is also really good both in sound and in convenience as it's removable and easy to reposition. also the convenience of having the USB sound card in case you ever want to use it on PC is a nice bonus. Even the packaging is top notch lol.

You will want the headset adaptor for the controller though as it is easier to adjust volume settings (although this can be done in the guide)

Based on what you've said there are a lot of good ideas that I've seen (I'm not reading all 200+ comments) but here are my thoughts while trying to stay in your budget.

  1. System, Forza Horizon 3, 12 months gold ~ $400

  2. 3 extra controlers ~ $135

  3. Game Pass, EA Access ~ $150/year

  4. 8TB Seagate Drive Hub External HDD ~ $200

This leaves you about $115 (depending on sales tax) in your budget for other games like Rocket League or Beach Buggy Racing or any game that you desire.

And before I get trashed about the External HDD I chose that because with the Vault and Games Pass downloading games directly to your system, you will want a lot of storage so you are not constantly uninstalling and reinstalling games and the system can support up to 2 of those drives at once.
u/chizrocker88 · 1 pointr/xboxone

I’m a big fan of western digital externals, but last year they had a great deal on Seagate’s 8 TB external for $190. I would strongly recommend that if you can shell out the cash. I’ve got 250 games installed and it’s not even half way filled.

u/awsumsauce · 1 pointr/xboxone

Fair enough! I've been using the german version of this thing for a few years now, and while it might be slightly more expensive than the apple thing, it has a shit ton of useful functions and is very reliable. Also look up some eneloop reviews, they basically behave like disposable batteries, i.e. all the advantages thereof, and mine have all been working great since 2011 when I bought them. Worth every penny!

u/scottymoze · 1 pointr/xboxone

Turtle Beach 420x and 420x+ are nice. I would look for prices closer to $120 or less before buying, unless you're in a pinch. Use camelcamelcamel.com for Amazon price history.

Older model:

Newer model (adds "Superhuman Hearing," up to you if you want/need this):

https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Stealth-Wireless-Headset-Superhuman/dp/B01JS3F7AW

--

PROS

Fully wireless, no cables to the controller

Long battery life

Reliable so far (5+ friends have them, zero issues)

Clear voice chat (me, and all friends with them sound great)

Comfy (although this is preference)

--

CONS

Price ($100-150)

Have to charge them (I charge nightly, although once in a while miss a charge and still OK the next day)

Only stereo sound (however you can still hear stuff "behind" you regardless, if that makes sense)

Takes up a USB port w/ wireless receiver

USB dongle is somewhat bright and blinks while not connected, can be distracting if you plug into a font port and your Xbox is in view

--

There are also two new headsets incoming that I'm watching - both are fully wireless but also surround.

The HyperX Cloud II that I use is this one with 7.1 USB connectivity for both PC and Mac!:

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCXWG/

Note that the 7.1 only works on PC/Mac.

The licensed Xbox One version of it is this (only difference is it includes the case, has a inline audio controls, but looses 7.1 support PC/MAC)

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-CloudX-Headset-HX-HSCX-SR-NA/dp/B01HHBYS8E/

This is the latest model, HyperX Cloud Revolver ($120 though)

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Revolver-Headset-HX-HSCR-BK-NA/dp/B01CIEBU54/

I heard that it has a frame noise issue, but is slightly easier to put on. The great sound is still there, but not better. Personally, I went with the cheaper Cloud II.

I would shop around though as you might find it cheaper elsewhere.

u/Aperture_TestSubject · 1 pointr/xboxone

I’ve been using the LucidSound LS35X for about 2 months now. I really like them! The sound quality is good and they actually get pretty loud. My only real complaint is being able to get the sweet spot on the overall sound and the chat/game mixer can be a bit finicky.

Muting is just hitting the right earcup button and the mic even has a red light so you know you’re muted, and you can mute game and chat audio quick by hitting the left earcup button. Sound quality is solid on the mic, and have never heard any complaints from my gaming buddies. Any other questions just let me know.

I have been using this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RSOV50/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 since 2013 with eneloop and now these Amazons. I recently bought a cheaper charger that is compatible with a lot more batteries the Nitecore D4. Also fine would be Nitecore I4, D4, D2. Any would get the job done in great form. I found Amazon a bit expensive so I bought from http://www.illumn.com/batteries-chargers-and-powerpax-carriers/chargers.html?___store=default&brand=211 based on many great reviews by http://budgetlightforum.com/

u/jimbonics · 1 pointr/xboxone

> Would hooking up the X31 to my TV RGB-Out and then plugging the chat cord into the controller adapter work?

As long as it was a dedicated Audio Out (not tied to any single output), it should work fine. I have the X312's w/ XB1's, but the rear of my TV is in a tight spot, so I can't test that.

I use these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008EPW7TA

and it works like a champ.

I don't have the chat adapter, so I cannot attest to your second question, but I have to imagine it'd work fine.

Edit: I have X32's, sorry.

It's up on Amazon, too

  • $300 for 500GB
  • $350 for 1TB
  • $400 for 2TB

edit: Current Amazon release date is Dec 30, 2016, but pre-order dates always seem to be NYE when the product page first goes up. I'm sure it'll get fixed to Aug.

edit 2: I linked to Smile.Amazon.com... an official Amazon site with the exact same sign-in and securities and payments and everything, but you can pick a charity that a portion of your purchase amount goes to at no extra charge. Amazon started it in 2013.

I love my rechargeable AA batteries. I haven't done the extensive testing OP has on life, but I generally swap out batteries once a month or so it feels like, probably 15-20 hours of playtime. This is using the generic Amazon rechargeables.

For anyone using rechargeables, or thinking about it, a critical part is a good charger. I highly recommend La Crosse chargers. They know when your batteries are full and stop putting a full charge into them, which is why batteries start to die (at least in my layman's understanding). The below charger is the one I use, and has served me great for ~4 years; batteries that I got 4 years ago that could hold 2100 mAh still hold about 1900 mAh.

Discontinued? I'm not sure what is giving you that impression.

Don't go with the Panasonic charger. Well, you can. It's not like they're bad or anything. Something like this charger is going to be a nice upgrade. Each battery is individually charged like on the Panasonic. It also has a couple quick charging options.

u/taeshik_cha · 2 pointsr/xboxone

Headsets with multiple drivers work great? You're nuts. Never purchase a headset with multiple drivers because the drivers will be smaller and it will sound like crap. Buy headphones and get a mic to go with them. Better value and better sound.

An example would be....

These with a V Boompro

u/Conrpnc · 2 pointsr/xboxone

Go with these and this. I'm sure there are better deals to be found, I just went for the easy links.

EDIT: Sorry, that first link should have been to just the batteries not the pack with the charger. Point is Eneloops and a good charger.

Extra $200? The Sunset Overdrive bundle is the same price as a standard Xbox One ($350). The only difference is that it comes with Sunset Overdrive for free, and it's white.

Bundles I'd recommend: Halo MCC Bundle, Assassin's Creed Unity/Black Flag Bundle (with kinect), Advanced Warfare Bundle (1tb hard drive), and Sunset Overdrive Bundle.

Edit: It seems like the price of the Sunset Overdrive bundle and the Advanced Warfare bundle went up significantly because of low stock on Amazon. They are normally $350 and $450 respectively. If you want either of these bundles, I recommend looking at sellers other than Amazon until they replenish their stock.

u/Decyde · 1 pointr/xboxone

Worst part about this is I'm going to have to buy that 8 TB drive to hold all the games they've given us since GWG has came out.

I really enjoyed Halo 3 when they ported it over. It was such a blast playing with some people who never quit the game and pretty much were friends since they were almost the only ones still playing.

Really took me back to when my friends and I all had the time to hop on Halo 3 after work and play from like 7pm to 11pm a few nights a week.

With that said, Modern Warfare 2 is the only reason I have my 360 still plugged in. I'm not sure if I'm going to sell my 360 when that game gets ported over or sadly box it up and just put it into storage the rest of its life.

u/legalizepublicpissin · 2 pointsr/xboxone

For the best audio experience per dollar I think it's best to go with proper headphones and a mic attachment. This is my set-up: Philips SHP9500S HiFi Precision Stereo Over-ear Headphones (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENMK1DW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CVw-Bb0YE7XTY and for the mic Aux Cable, Tsumbay Audio Cable with Microphone and in-line Control, 3.5mm Male to Male Cable Headphone Cable Premium Nylon Auxiliary Cord for Headphones, PS4, Home/Car Stereos (1m) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XXD5SKN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LWw-BbMK5EC8V. I see that the headphones have been discontinued so they're super expensive now but the idea is that any pair of good headphones (with detachable 3.5mm cable) will do.

The only thing you should know is these are open cans, which means they are not outside noise canceling, so if you need the TV sound in the living room for example to be out of your headset, a closed can headset is a better choice. If you have more questions I'm glad to help!

I have the Seagate Game Hub (8 TB) and it's been great. It has extra USB ports, too:

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Drive-Storage-Ports-STGG8000400/dp/B072QH2JCL

If that's too much storage, there's a 4 TB version (without the USB ports) that comes with two months of Game Pass:

Any luck with this at all? Im in the same boat. I do know you get a 3.5mm spliter with a female end that will put out into a mic and headset cable, would this maybe work if attached from the headset?

As many have said, go with Eneloops. But also get a good charger.

I recommend (I use) the La Cross Technology BC-700 Alpha - It charges 4 at a time, each separately (generally good for improved live time of the batteries vs most chargers that do 2 or 4 on one charge channel, but NECESSARY for charging anything individually or 3 or other odd numbers, such as you might get with rock band instruments ...)

edit: the PowerEx MH-C9000 recommended below by others should do all the same things as the one I linked as well.

edit2: Actually I have the BC-900(9) pack that came with batteries and travel case, the difference being the 900 has higher charge rate options.. but I never use them, so the 700 will work as well. The BC-900(9) appear to be discontinued.

With this $50 device and an HD antenna you can turn your XBOX One into a DVR. Watch free over-the-air broadcast TV on your Xbox One, pause live TV for up to 30 minutes, stream live TV to SmartGlass application, and it will actually create a guide displaying all your local TV listings. Neat.

u/Hellenkeller328 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Don’t buy SCUF. They’ll disintegrate within a few months. Go to Amazon and find some OEM side rails. If you don’t want to fork out $40 for the OEM parts; there are some that are nearly identical to OEMs and cost the same as the SCUF grips.

Here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0Q0QI8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_r.GhDbCB3VBQZ

Yes, the SCUF grips are cheap and feel great out of the box. I thought the same thing. Then a few months in, the rubber on one of the thumbsticks felt loose and started to pull away from the metal. Even then, I told myself “no biggie, I’ll just replace it with another thumbstick.” Then another thumbstick went. Suddenly, the grips started to feel like they’d expanded. They had. The rubber had deformed and expanded like a sponge. On top of all that, the SCUF logo pattern had taken on a ton of grime that I’d never gotten on my stock elite grips.

All of that happened within six months. I’m a neat freak and make a legitimate effort to keep my stuff clean. Save yourself the headache of having to replace your grips in six months and just order OEM parts. Anything but SCUF.

In the review/comments section for this model it says "does not work with Xbox".

Do you think they say that because they mean it doesn't work with the xbox stereo headset adapter?

Sorry.. I'm sure it's really basic and easy to understand if I saw it, but I can't understand it from the pic on amazon. It looks like a large headphone jack splitting into 2x 3.5mm plugs. But the Elite controller has only one 3.5mm headset jack.

Edit: My plan is to buy the Phliips SHP9500

u/DaveFalcon73 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Stereo Headset Adapter plugs into the controller you then plug any headset with a 3.5mm cable into that and get audio wirelessly through your controller.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421229671&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+stereo+headset+adapter

Other option is if you have a pair of speakers with a 3.5mm or RCA jacks on it to then buy a DAC Digital SPDIF converter. This is USB powered and plugs into your Xbox One SPDIF port, you then plug your speakers that either have a 3.5mm plug or RCA jacks into this and voila you get audio out of your speakers without the need of having to use headphones or a stereo headset adapter into the controller.

Cloud II's can be used on Xbox One however they have their own CloudX Headset which is designed for use with the Xbox and has a inline control for the headset volume and mute.

PS4 allows the use of the USB Sound Card for virtual 7.1 surround that comes with the Cloud II. Xbox cant do that because it dosnt support USB headsets, the headphones connect to the Sound Card via 3.5mm jack so instead of plugging the 3.5mm jack into the sound card you plugthe 3.5mm jack straight into the Xbox controller or chat adapter. Doing it this way all audio for the headset will need to be controlled through the Guide or chat adapter buttons.

The Cloud, Cloud II (without the USB Sound Card) and CloudX headsets are all stereo anyways so you are getting the same stereo sound with all of them. But if you have a PC you will also be able to use USB sound card on the PC for 7.1. So its an added benefit. Not to mention if you have a PS4 or ever buy one the headset is ready to go for that console.

The Cloud I's also use dual 3.5mm which means you will need to use a Y Splitter to connect it to the controller (cant remember if it comes supplied or not), you wont need that with the Cloud II's.

Each has their own benefits but i would pay the extra $20 for the memory foam head band alone.

You alone need to weigh the options and figure if its better to spend the extra $20 and be set to use it for everything with a few added benefits that may or may not help you in the long run. Pay an extra $10 for the CloudX designed for the Xbox or spend the original price for the base models.

Edit: Also from what i understand the Cloud II's mic has Echo and Noise cancelling where as the first gen Cloud's does not.

I had my X11s set up using the following method and it worked. I had to buy the following things:

Xbox One Headset adapter

Optical to RCA converter

Optical Cable

You'll plug one end of your optical cable into your Xbox One and the other end into the Optical port on the Converter. Then, plug your red and white RCA connectors on your X11s into the Red and White jacks on the Converter (you now have game audio).

For chat, there should be a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that comes with the XB1 headset adapter. Use that.

This is how I used my X11s when the adapter first game out.

Another possibility I just thought of while typing this up is using something like a PC-headset to Smartphone Adapter. In theory this should work, but I have not tested it so i cannot guarantee it.

In this scenario, you'd simply take the Pink and Green 3.5mm connectors on the X11s and plug them directly into Mic and Speaker Jacks and then plug that adapter into your controller.

Hope this helps.

What TV service do you have? I got my parents an Xbox One S awhile ago and it was doing the same thing with their DIRECTV receiver. The only way I was able to fix it was to put a HDMI Splitter in between the receiver and Xbox and now it works perfect. They don't have 4K so you might want to look for one if your able to get 4K from your tv provider.

u/Rogue11 · 1 pointr/xboxone

You can still use chat with the DSS2. It just involves some adapters.

  1. If you're using a headset that just has one 3.5mm trrs plug, you need a splitter to split that to a male 3.5mm Headphone and a male 3.5mm mic jack.

  2. You then need a male 3.5mm TRRS splitter to two female 3.5mm jacks, one is a female headphone jack, the other is a female mic jack. (This has to specifically be a pc headset adapter cable that specifically splits the mic and headphone not just one that allows two people to listen to one plug)

  3. Connect the female mic/headphone adapter to the chat adapter of your controller (or directly into your controller if it has the 3.5mm port)

  4. Plug your headphone jack of your headset into the DSS2 headphone port. Plug the mic into the mic splitter connected to the controller. Run a 3.5mm aux cord from the headphone splitter from the controller to the back of the DSS2 into the aux port.

  5. Turn your chat balance on the controller (or in the guide if your controller has the 3.5mm jack built in) all the way to chat and adjust the volume appropriately.

You are getting surround sound directly from the DSS2 fed into your headset The mic is going to the controller so people can hear you, only the chat is coming from the controller and being fed into the aux port in the back of the DSS2, allowing you to hear chat and it is laid over your surround sound. You can adjust the volume of chat via the stereo headset adapter or the guide if your controller has the 3.5mm jack built in.

This allows you to use chat on the DSS2! It is what I currently use.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

EDIT This is what I bought, and although you can find it cheaper on monoprice or ebay, I had Prime so it was 2-day shipping for me:

  • Long 3.5mm extension This was to give my controller some distance from the DSS2.
  • PC Headset splitter for controller This plugs into my extension cable that is plugged into the controller.
  • 3.5mm Aux This plugs into the aux in the back of the DSS2 and into the headset port of the adapter above this one. (Any 3.5mm aux cord will work, I just wanted something short)
  • Headset adapter for headphones use this adapter if your Headset doesn't have two plugs, one for mic and one for headphones. The headphone plug will go into the DSS2 headphone port, and the mic will go into the female mic port on the adapter connected to the extension 3.5mm cord attached to the controller.
u/LikeWhite0nRice · 2 pointsr/xboxone

u/Rickmasta · 1 pointr/xboxone

OK, so on the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that comes with the headset adapter, which site is CTIA and which is OMTP? The Female takes in OMTP and the male is CTIA, or the other way around?

So would the combination of this and this work?

u/D-Skel · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I think this is what you want? You'll need to purchase an optical cable, also. This will only do audio, though.

Supposedly, the MS stereo headset adapter will do chat and audio, but I haven't tried that. I had to get the converter for my surround sound system, so I use that like the 360 dongle for the surround sound and my x12s.

u/john-y25 · 3 pointsr/xboxone

The thing you are presently using will definitely not work. It's the "wrong way". You have 3 Inputs and 1 output. The goal of the splitter you are trying to use is to plug multiple devices in 1 tv. For example, plugging 1 Xbox one, 1 Xbox 360 and a Blueray player in the 3 "Inputs", and the "Outputs" goes in the TV. Meant to be used with TV that doesn't have enough HDMI input to plug all your stuff.
You will need something more like this: http://www.amazon.com/HD-102-Powered-Splitter-Certified-Support/dp/B005HXFARS/ref=sr_1_5?s=audio-video-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1450792526&sr=1-5&keywords=hdmi+splitter or any splitter that has 1 input and 2 output. Check for that controller range tho to make sure it will work out.

I've gotten so used to telling my xbox to turn on, go to settings/games/tv/anything, turn off, etc. but speaking loud enough to be heard from all the way across the room can get annoying when I am watching TV in bed.

I use my remote almost religiously at this point since my xbox is almost always on for TV, Netflix, and games of course; but if they added a kinect mic to the remote itself that lets you comfortably speak commands, just like Amazon's FireTV, it would be absolutely perfect... I'm guessing they don't do this because they would make it a much cheaper alternative to the xbox with kinect.

I have these and they work pretty much the same. Just plugs into the controller if you have the newer models. I don't know how it would work if you need the adapter.

u/KaijuKing · 3 pointsr/xboxone

You'll need to add this to your controller if its not one of the latest, It allows you to add pretty much any headphone/earbuds with or without a microphone.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451101487&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+headphone+adapter

The adapter usually comes with xbox one compatible headsets. It can also be purchased separately and used with pretty much and headphone with a 3.5mm jack.

I really hope the Unity and Sunset Overdrive bundles sell as quick as the Madden bundle did back in August. Oh wait...

u/funnyfunny420 · 1 pointr/xboxone

I don't believe that is currently supported. If smartglass eventually comes to apple tv or other set top boxes then that could be a possibility.

Also, recordable OTA (DVR) was announced for 2016 at gamescom and playable on all windows 10 devices via xbox app.

Honestly, stay away from gaming mics if you are gonna go wired. Get yourself these with this mic.

This combo will be miles and miles ahead of any gaming headset. I went though this dillemma a few years ago and went with this, never looked back.

u/oldknave · 3 pointsr/xboxone

Buy a converter for the optical port on your xbox one, and run the audio for your headset through the optical port and converter to the composite cables for your TB headset.

I bought this here and it worked fine, you'll need to get an optical cable as well.

u/bluehand70 · 3 pointsr/xboxone

I have a splitter and it works great. Mine is powered, so I suggest that as well. Heads up, the active monitor gets a 2-3 second black out when you power up the 2nd TV that is receiving the signal. Not a big deal, but can mess you up if playing and don't realize it's coming. Here's the one I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HXFARS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Headset Microphone

Better quality than any "gaming" headset you can find at this price. I also prefer this combination over Astro headsets.

u/Deathbyart · 1 pointr/xboxone

Sigh... it's fine without a Kinect. Smartglass works well, they also make the Media Remote

u/Chickern · 1 pointr/xboxone

You want a: 4 pin 3.5 to 2x 3.5 mm cable.

That will split your stereo headsets plug into 2 distinct plugs.

edit: Something that looks like this: http://www.amazon.ca/Startech-MUYHSFmm-Headset-Splitter-Adapter-F/dp/B0058DOWH6/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1407471693&sr=1-2&keywords=3.5mm+4-pin

u/kftgr2 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Could be that your adapter mixes the lines together in OMTP standard (left, right, mic, ground), while the xbox stereo adapter likes the CTIA standard (left, right, ground, mic).

This is an adapter that can switch between the two (it just swaps the last two pins). (searched for CTIA OMTP adapter)

Actually don't buy that. It comes with the old style controller , it's actually cheaper to buy one of the new S style controller (better bumpers, bluetooth, headphone jack, and textured grip) and the play and charge kit separately, here's the links for those:

Controller,
Play and Charge

Plug your XO Seven's into your AX720 cable to get surround and comfort. I don't know what the xo cable looks like but if it's a single plug you might need one of these to get the mic to work.

You could use some sort of bootlegged system like using this and running these into the back of your speaker.

u/purejokes2002 · 1 pointr/xboxone

You'd need something like this

Or use the stereo headset adapter that plugs into the bottom of the controller

I will be using my current headset (Tritton detonators)
but to get game audio i'll be getting an HDMI splitter example
then this to convert one of the HDMI cables to composite.
Probably going to find cheaper solutions for the parts, but this is just an example. and for voice i'm just going to get the adapter c:

I have my setup just how you want yours. I'm using this splitter. OREI HD-102 1x2 1 Port HDMI Powered Splitter Ver 1.3 Certified for Full HD 1080P & 3D Support (One Input To Two Outputs) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HXFARS/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_h1uAub1FVJ274

Sometimes i have to unplug it and plug it back in to watch tv on the Xbox. Otherwise it's black screen and only sound. Not sure if it's splitter or Xbox issue because tv always works without Xbox. I'm ok with it as I don't really watch tv on Xbox anyway.

u/wikitiki33 · 1 pointr/xboxone

You could do this.. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008EPW7TA/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1394568313&sr=1-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Mixed with this

But that might be too much effort for what it's worth

If you're actually going to buy a receiver, I just recently purchased a Denon AVR-S510BT to replace my newly dead Denon that was about 15 years old. I was able to get it for $180 with tax from Amazon, but it looks like the cheapest new is now $230.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YAO43YG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Alternately, I purchased an OREI Digital to Analog Audio Converter for a friend to output sound to separate speakers since his Xbox TV's builtin audio was failing. This is a $20 box but it needs its own power.

Im using this recharger:

http://www.amazon.com/Crosse-Technology-BC-700-Battery-Charger/dp/B000RSOV50/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1453386826&sr=8-12&keywords=eneloop+charger

and never regretted it. Not the only good one on the market but it works fine and has all the functions you Need.

u/HeroOfTime14 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Like /u/EGHeart saidm, It doesn't work like that. You would need a 3.5mm female to two 3.5mm males for it to work. Plug the headset into the female part of the adapter and then one male end into the controller adapter and the other male end into your phone. That should work.

This might work. Not 100%. But this is the kind of cable I speak of.
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-MUYHSFMM-Headset-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B0058DOWH6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421027550&sr=8-2&keywords=3.5mm+female+to+male+splitter

u/PCMasterCucks · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I use the LaCrosse BC 700, which is a little cheaper and has basically the same functions.

https://www.amazon.com/Crosse-Technology-BC700-CBP-Battery-Charger/dp/B000RSOV50/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1536456623&sr=1-1&keywords=lacrosse+bc-700

It only goes up to 700 ma which would take a lot longer to charge, but I would argue that the OP should just get 8 batts that are Low Self Discharge, so that there's always a charged pair ready to go.

-----------------

Just an aside: back on 360, I had 6 batteries going in rotation for 6 years because of the refresh feature.

When I got an Xbox One, I got used them still but the high batt usage made it unfeasible. I got those black Amazon AAs, which are trash and died 2 years down the line regardless of refreshing. Currently Eneloops are around 2 years old now and still keep a good charge.

Got more info from https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/21buru/getting_your_chat_adapter_to_work_properly_a/

> Most PC headsets fall under this category, since basically all PCs have separate mic and speaker ports to allow stereo sound. Purchase This to hook up the speakers and mic together and plug the remaining port into the chat adapter. If the mic still doesn't work, purchase the OMTP to CTIA adapter in the link above under the 3.5mm 3 black band setup.

And I think this is the link you may need, but double check me on that: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-EC250-Headphones-Adaptor-1249-0456/dp/B009HW15UG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395760523&sr=8-1&keywords=omtp+to+ctia+adapter
