I play both MtG and several other similar games and I've tried most of the games suggested here and I think they would all not be a good fit because they're a bit too simplistic in what they do (Harry Potter, Star Realms, Epic).

Millennium Blades, as was suggested, is actually a really cool game that I too can heartily recommend but it's hard to find atm.
Another option would be a core set of the Game of Thrones Card Game 2nd Edition. It's an excellent game that has enough depth to keep an MtG player interested while still being different enough to not feel like it's just a rehash of MtG.
Netrunner is also universally acclaimed and also designed by Richard Garfield (original MtG designer). The core set would be a good starting point for someone new to the game. I personally prefer the GoT game over Netrunner for various reasons so I think the choice here comes down to which one you think he'd prefer in terms of theme but overall, GoT is vastly more accessible and I think it's my overall best bet as to what he might enjoy.

I think it's actually from the Game of Thrones Card Game or one of its expansions. Both are made by Fantasy Flight and are wonderful if you have 5 hours and 1-5 friends to spare.

Yeah, I was able to nab the second edition, thankfully.

Still $19.97 if anyone else has interest:

$38 directly from Fantasy Flight but if you look in the corner you can order direct from Amazon for $19.97.

We should be able to throw together decent decks for two people with just the core set, right? Neither of us are hardcore, so as long as we can pull of a modicum of strategic play we'll be happy.

I have heard good things about the ASOIAF board game, but I have only played the 2nd edition card game, which my household has had a lot of fun with.

The game is somewhat complex, but once you get the rules down it's great.

Additionally, the first seller in the top is offering the core set for 25 bucks only, this seems a little suspicious to me as the game is 40 bucks in the official site. Am I risking to buy an unsealed product or something if I buy from that seller? What do you think?
