In our house there are a variety of phones, tablets etc. that mostly use the usb micro

I got fed up of certain chargers / cables only seeming to charge certain devices so decided to try buying a better charger (that was dual) and a pair of USB cables that seemed to be better quality

These are UK links so may not be relevant to you - but for me these were a really good buy - I never get complaints from the rest of the family any more and have ended up buying another set & ditched the original chargers. I cannot comment technically on the cables, but to me they look and feel like better quality cables than any others that I have and just work

Ehh... Any MicroUSB cable should be able to handle the amperage. I use Amazon Basic MicroUSB Cables and they work perfectly fine for me. It's definitely the charging brick that is impacting his ability to use the device and charge at the same time.
