For shits and giggles, I sometimes listen to my HD800 out of this adapter, through an iPhone 8 and even iPhone 6S Plus, and while it doesn't get super loud it's also a blessing in disguise since I don't use EQ on iOS anyway. Mid to low level listening is more than acceptable, for me, with the un-EQ'ed sound.
(a non-facetious answer): If the headphone jack truly is broken - and not just full of lint (check by digging in it with a toothpick) you have a couple of options. The fact that Apple has removed the headphone jack on current phones will work to your advantage now.

The K3 is a fantastic desktop usb powered dac/amp I'm jamming today between my M1060s and the M6s. Powers both beautifully.
For portable you can use the Apple Lightning Adapter its under $10 and measures extremely well. The IEMs I gush on are inexpensive, sound leagues above their price and are easy to drive.

If you want something other than your phone:
I used a Shanling M0 ($92) for about a year as my goto running DAP. Small, lightweight, and easy to use. And the Xduoo X20 ($240) for a portable work and bedroom setup until I setup dedicated dacs/amps in each of those locations.
But honestly your phone with the adapter is perfect mobile set up. The K3 would be a great way to enter the hobby with a nice set of IEMs.
Why not just go >Lightning to 3.5mm
into > 3.5mm splitter into > male to male 3.5mm to your recorder, with the other end of the splitter going to your headphones?

Jesus Christ, even that isn’t “overly expensive”, but if you want to be pedantic, it is not prime and it is 3rd party sellers for $12 on amazon, not direct from Apple. Amazon is a competitor and JUST started selling Apple TVs on amazon, so I’m not surprised they don’t sell other apple products direct.

I agree, iPhones should have headphone jacks, but using the “overly expensive proprietary dongle” is a shitty argument when it’s cheap.
