That having been said, if a higher res screen was offered at a sane pricepoint would I have purchased that instead? Yea for sure. But the only other higher res options at a 27"-30" size are in the 900-1400 price range, which is double-triple the cost of a 1080p screen. Just not worth it in my opinion.

This PC is definitely more expensive than the previous commentor's but trust me when I say that (especially with the 770), this thing kicks ass and will handle any future games that you throw at it that are more graphics intensive than Diablo. Also this pc will last you quite a while, is super fast, and looks really cool.

ASUS monitor I bought last month was the only monitor with a Thunderbolt DisplayPort (Looking into it now, not sure if it's Thunderbolt or not) connection.

I use the Asus 278. It has a 2ms response time and fits in nicely with my MBP setup as well.

Is it worth the upgrade? I'd be selling the old monitor and I mostly use it for gaming and video playback. Colour quality is a must though and IDK if the ASUS is IPS.

I'd go with this. 27in to keep it uniform, and perfect for watching netflix and browsing the web when you play games. I have two of them and they're great.

I don't think I need to upgrade yet.. Lol. not on the whole 4k hype train yet.

It's just a little more than what your budgeting, but I got an Asus 27" LED at work, and it's the best damn monitor I've ever used. I don't think LED is necessarily better for your eyes, but they're bright, they don't dim over time, and they hit full brightness immediately, where straight LCD's take a minute to warm up.

Now as /u/lukeehobbs has said, you should probably go with a 1440p monitor if you are wanting to get a 27".

1920 x 1080 @ 27 inches = 82 DPI

2560 x 1440 @ 27 inches = 109 DPI

In my experience 82 DPI is uncomfortably low. You'll easily see the pixels and there's no increase in screen real estate from the monitor you have now. Additionally, when gaming you'll notice "jaggies" much more with the same anti-aliasing settings.

The 109 DPI that 1440p would bring is totally worth it. It's so much more space and it's a comfortable pixel density (similar to your existing 116 DPI) so you won't need to use the mess that is windows scaling, as you might want to do with a 28 inch 4k UHD monitor with 157 DPI.

It will require more power to run, but because of the increase in pixel density, you may only need to use anti-aliasing on x2 or x4 for it to look good.

Overall, I personally couldn't justify getting a large screen without a large resolution.
