Ditto the above.

People will need to be able to hear the backing tracks over their singing which will require amplification. Laptop speakers will not be adequate.

There should be a music equipment rental place near you. Something you might consider is a one piece PA/Amp. Something like this, easy to setup, and should be relatively inexpensive to rent for a day or two: https://www.amazon.ca/Ultra-Compact-150-Watt-Monitor-Speaker-System/dp/B00378GEAM/ref=pd_sbs_267_4

The contact mic is a bad idea, if it works at all. You need to hear how you sound through the mic to know what's going through the P.A.

Apart from that you could just get in-ear monitors if you are willing to invest a couple hundred bucks.

What I'd do is just get a tiny personal, portable monitor, so you always have something you can hear yourself through.

I'll look into that. I think I have access to a powered [http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-B205D-BEHRINGER-EUROLIVE/dp/B00378GEAM](Behringer Eurolive), that I might try to use. Thanks!

I'd look around for a used "all in one" type monitor speaker. Lots of them have 2 inputs, and an output to add an additional (active) speaker if needed.

If you have more than 1 vocal, pickup a small/cheap 2-4 channel mixer.

One example.

this or this would probably be what you want at the cheapest possible price range.
