that's oversimplifying it a bit. it's not "just ones and zeros" getting from one place to another. sure data is data, but there are different features and quality of signal which require different bandwidth and other cable features. when you word it like that, people assume any hdmi cord from anywhere will work, and everything else is a scam.

the cord you chose is a great value for what it has, and it is easier to do that as a manufacturer at shorter lengths. it has audio return, 3d capability, 4k at 24hz, etc. there are many other cables at monoprice that do not support that, or hdmi with ethernet, 1080p at 120hz, and other features. I ran into this issue when looking for cheap cables to run through my ceiling which required some of those features. even monoprice was a bit pricey. I ended up finding this on amazon, which was cheaper, made in the US, and had a lifetime warranty.

this for instance wouldn't work if you needed it for a tv with 1080p, 120hz, 3d, or hdmi with ethernet. bit pricey for a 1080i cord.

moral of the story is, all cables are not created equal. it is not some myth perpetuated by monster. there are cables that are required for higher resolutions, higher refresh rates, added features, and shielding does matter if you have other cables nearby, especially for audio and power. monster is just overpriced for video cables and should be avoided, but monoprice isn't the end all be all either. there are cheaper options out there that are just as good, so in some faccet, monoprice could be accused of doing the same thing monster is trying to do (make a profit) just at a more reasonable scale than they are.

bottom line: buy the right cable for the job, and get it from whoever will offer it to you cheapest without sacrificing quality.

  1. 25' HDMI Cable + 2. HDMI Splitter = Profit.

No I don't notice any lag at all works incredibly. Well worth it if you can have a HDTV nearby.
