With P7, we have created a headphone driver that works more like the drive unit in a hi-fi speaker, with a diaphragm focused purely on the job it's supposed to do: generate sound. Which means a drive unit with a more precise, controlled movement. Connectivity Technology: WiredP7's ear pads feature a dual cavity cushion design that helps the pads mold to the contours of the wearer's head. This design maintains a consistent volume of air between the drive unit and the surface of the ear at both sides of the head. Not only is stereo imaging enhanced, but the sound is optimized for every listener. Frequency range-10Hz to 20kHz
Check out Audio Technica, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser and Bowers & Wilkins.
Personally, I'm partial to Audio Technicas. They have some of the best sound quality you can get for the price, at the cost of looking rather plain. But that's a small compromise for me.
If you want your headphones to look sexy and sound great at the same time, check out the Bowers & Wilkins P7, the V-Moda Crossfade M-100 Master, the Beyerdynamic Aventho Wireless or the Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless.
If you want the truly high end stuff, check out Audeze or Grado.
Honestly, the world of headphones is so vast it can be incredibly easy to get lost in it. I'd suggest checking out the r/headphones subreddit. I'm not really an expert so I'd recommend just searching around. Look up different models. Read reviews.
Sennheiser Momentums
-Less than half the price of beats.
-Sounds better than anything beats can crap out.
-Good for the average user, no amp needed.
If you're willing to spend Beats money but want to get your money's worth you can go with Sennheiser HD650 or B&W P7. But remember with these, you're going onto audiophile territory and some need headphone amps. The higher you go, you hit diminishing returns. In the end, for the average person you just don't need to go spending that much on headphones for decent quality.

$400.00
The B&W P7 should be right up your alley:

So these award winning B&W P7's for $350 are dogshit compared to anything over $400?
Look into the B&W P7. You can get them cheaper if you get the Amazon Warehouse deals on it.
None of these actually "max out" your budget, but they are all very solid picks.
Edit: picks are in order of best >> worst choice. Also, the top 2 will definitely benefit a lot more from a dedicated amp.
Fuck that shit, gotta ball out

I tried them on at the Apple Store. I'm no audiophile but I thought they sounded great and were very comfortable.
Budget - ~300, Flexible
Source - Galaxy S6, Desktop PC, or Mpow Bluetooth v4.1 Receiver
Requirements for Isolation - More Isolation. I plan to use these in my office and in public
Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear/ full sized
Preferred tonal balance - I prefer a more natural balance, maybe some emphasized bass and mids, but nothing crazy. Just some cans that are a pure joy to listen to.
Past headphones - Sennheiser earbuds (old, and not sure which model), Sony Gold Playstation headset
Preferred Music - A pretty wide range, mostly acoustic and alternative (Lewis Watson, Cody Fry, John Mayer). Classic rock (Queen) and more modern rock (Thirty Seconds to Mars, Pierce the Veil). Piano centered classical (Ludovico Einaudi). A bit of EDM/ Pop/ House music (DJ Snake, Kygo, Lauv). Some hip-hop/ rap (Run the Jewels)
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - For my next set I'm really looking for a pair of closed backs that are a joy to listen to for hours, with the best sound stage and positioning (I'd like to use these for gaming as well). I know that's difficult for closed backs obviously, but I have come up with some potential choices:
I'm very unsure though, and I'd love to hear your comments and recommendations. Also, a detachable cable is preferred but not required (I wouldn't mind modding the 770s if that ends up being my choice).
Thanks!
What's your budget?
My choice?
