The easiest thing would be to buy a hard wax, a medium wax, and a soft wax, and see which you like to work with. If I had to pick one, I'd say go with something like this

And, the easier yet method would actually be to do lost foam casting instead, and cut it with a hot knife or a hot wire, in which case you just coat the foam with slurry, and pour the metal onto the foam as is, no burning/melting necessary. I recommend a rock tumbler with walnut shells for cleanup of the finished piece.
