Fox Farms Ocean Forest | $15 - $40 | You can buy it online and I did for my first 3 bags....then I found it in a local store for $15. There is some controversy with FF lately, it's not organic FYI. There are tutorials on making your own soil if you care, but I like this because I didn't have to use nutes for 3-4 weeks.
Humidifier | $30 | This is the exact one I have. We're in winter so I need it to keep humidity up, you may not.
Dehumidifier | $40 | There are plenty for this much. You may not need this either.
Cal-Mag | $20 | I haven't needed it yet but it's best to have on hand if you do!
Seeds | $75 | I bought from Attitude, chose stealth, and bought like 15 seeds?, so it was expensive. You can get seeds for less.
Jiffy Pellets | $10 | Used to start seeds. There are other options.
Total | $745 | If you buy all this stuff, you have potentially even more than you need to get started, with room for 3-4x more plants than these boxes, and with nutrients to last you for a long long time!

My setup consists of:
A 2'x2'x4' Weed tent.
A cool mist humidifier running half-hour on, half-hour off during the day, and always running through the night. Always on the lowest possible mist setting.
Two 1200 lumen outdoor-rated daylight-spectrum floodlights mounted on bendy desk lamps; one sitting ~22 inches above my plants at a slight angle providing direct light, and the other covered with a layer of duct tape and pointed at one of the top corners of the tent to provide a bit more indirect light. Direct light stays on 13 hours per day, indirect turns on an hour earlier and off an hour later.
A single 10x20 tray on top of some cheap plastic shelving from walmart. The shelving was by far the hardest component to get right. I probably spent >$100 on different shelving units before I found my $12 solution. Though it's a 3-shelf unit, I only put two of them together.
A small temperature and humidity reader thingy.
Notes about this setup:
Mold. I get fuzzies growing along the seams of the tent every few weeks. I wipe them away with a bleachy rag, then spray over where they grew with dissolved sulfer. The mold has never gotten out of control and never yet spread to the plants, but I do have to stay on top of it.
Temperature. This setup doesn't have that large of an impact on temperature. It tends to be about 1-5掳F above ambient temperature in the day, and 0-2掳F below ambient temperature at night. If the temperature in your home doesn't fluctuate much this might not work for you, but I can pretty reliably get 10掳F or so drops, and that's all it seems to take for my plants.
Neither tent is really "name-brand" but fuck all if they aren't getting the job done!
Oh wow, thank you!! Fair warning: this is my first attempt so I'm not sure if I've done everything "correctly" lol
I'll try to break down the conditions as best I can. I used the KORAM seed starter trays from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LX0JBUU) to help with water and humidity control. I kept the vent almost all the way closed to keep the environment very moist pretty much until the last week or so I had the lid on. During that last stretch, I gradually opened the vent to allow more airflow to acclimate the bbs (not sure if that actually matters lol, but better safe than sorry right?). The lid was on pretty much 24/7 until the mold & algae got crazy and the seedlings started to get true leaves.
I use distilled water and in the beginning I rarely had to refill the bottom of the tray since the domed lids kept a lot of the moisture inside. I'd supplement as needed maybe once a week, but really based on the look of the soil. Once the lid came off I definitely had to check the moisture level more frequently. Now that the bbs are bigger I keep the soil moist but not too wet by either misting them or refilling the bottom of the tray.
They've been under a grow light in a tent (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GCHXUVU/) for 12-14 hours a day since about day 3 after sowing seeds. I gradually moved them from the side with less direct light into the brighter area as they got stronger. The tent has a fan set up on a timed power strip to circulate air for as long as the lights are running during the day, and I tried to keep the temp around 72 as best I could for the first few weeks.
I made my own mix using Kempf Compressed Coco Fiber, perlite, and Bonsai Jack Succulent and Cactus Soil Gritty Mix #111 which I sterilized first. I'd say it's about 50/25/25 for the coco, perlite, and bonsai jack. I also sifted the mix to get some of the finest particles to create a ~1/4 inch layer on the top of each section before sowing the seeds on top. I did 1-2 seeds per individual section.

I had to buy 2 rolls of black tape to check her the whole outside twice and make sure no light came through. I used 1.5 rolls but I can鈥檛 buy 1.5 rolls. It uses a lot of tape to get a full light seal.
I don鈥檛 know what tents you are using, you can find tents 45-55 that鈥檚 are 4-5 times the size of a bucket. A $90 tent is like 3x3 or bigger, can鈥檛 compare that to a bucket size grow.

Well I understand you may find it annoying, but every time I do I get direct messages asking for link and then agreeing it鈥檚 a better investment that buying and building a bucket. I worked a few hours a day for a week to build my bucket.
It鈥檚 a great DIY and I had fun building it, but you can do more for the investment if you consider time to make it and all. Space buckets are a great beginner hobby, but so can a 2x2

It's a hot mess at the moment and I don't have a good photo, but here are the pieces:
I put the Amazon links for reference, but shop around. Some of this stuff is much cheaper at Home Depot or other online stores.
I use the foil tape to connect a "boot" directly to the back of the case my mining rig is in. Then connect the flex duct to the boot. Connect the other end to the inline fan. Connect a second piece of flex to the output of the fan and hang the end out of the window.
I've found pulling the heat out works much better than blowing cold air in.

I鈥檝e got a 32x32x63 grow tent from cool grow for like $50? On amazon , I also bought this light it鈥檚 the qb288 from kingbrite for $138?
