I mean maybe he got it off craigslist or an ebay auction or something. Or he got the prices mixed up. I wouldn't assume malintent.

Also Skylake HP Spectre X360s compare pretty well against the MBP for ~1k, so there's that. And the X1 Carbon's lower end models are also around that range.

Edit: You can definitely get an XPS 13 with specs similar to MBP base model for less. Here. It's even got a faster processor.

If you are willing to pay so much for Mac, why not allocate the same amount into a solid Windows laptop? Remember, what you pay for is what you get but with Mac you're guaranteed a good product, however limited depending on what you are going to do (Incompatibilities, hardware limitations, etc.)


This is a nifty overview of the Dell XPS 13, which might just be something you want to look at considering its quality and "Macbook-like" style.

If you would like to look at the store page for it, its here too; I don't think its the particular one he reviewed since it has a different (and more powerful) processor but y'know, for reference. Also, the OLDER XPS 13 has been known for problems but the newer ones with a Skylake 6th Gen processor (as it will be labeled on the store pages) is usually updated with the kinks and bugs worked out; hence the terrible reviews being subject from the flaws of the old XPS 13.

This should be within your budget, has a good processor, a good battery life, and should be able to play most of those games on mid settings.

I didn't like the gold model. Luckily, I found another XPS 13 model with the iris graphics here.

For me, the important bits are how they are priced relative to the non-Iris builds.

This Dell XPS 9350-5341SLV would be perfect for you in just about every way. It ticks all your boxes from performances to build quality. It has a nice i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, fast 256 GB SSD and the Intel Iris 540 Skylake Graphics which will definitely allow you to run rocket league. The important thing is that this laptop will run auto cad very well, do greatly at photo editing and will manage light video editing. Apart from performance, it has a very great build quality, solid keyboard and a nice touch pad..It also has an excellent display quality and is very light weighted.

I asked today at a Microsoft Store and they didn't know. If you really want to budget, maybe look into the Acer Aspire S13 for $790. It comes with a new kaby lake i7 processor, 8gb of ram, 256gb ssd, and intel HD 620 graphics (stronger than 530). It is a lightweight 13.3'' at 2.9 pounds and has a full 1080p IPS touchscreen display. It also has a long battery life, and decent build quality. There is no thunderbolt 3 port, but there is a USB-C port.

If you want something with a thunderbolt 3 port, look into the XPS 13, HP Spectre x360 (2016 version), the Spectre 3T, or the 2016 Macbook Pro.

I'm going to major in Computer Science, and after looking at the requirements I was wondering if I should get the Dell XPS 13 along with some type of tablet from the provided list like the XPS 12 or the Surface Book.

Anyways, is this a good idea or am I completely wrong in what I should be doing?
