I have an idea for my first robotics project! I want to make a random number generator out of one of these pin art toys. Specifically, I would use it for D&D. My idea is to use two seven segment displays, where each piece of the display will move vertically up or down depending on what number is displaying. So the pin art toy would be laying down horizontally and the seven segment display pieces would move vertically from underneath to cause a number to display in the pin art.

Here is my question: is there a better way to move the pieces of the seven segment display other than using fourteen separate linear servos?

If I bought fourteen these small linear servos, the total would be $95+ (USD) after shipping. I've got most of a materials list completed and all the servos make up ~60% of the cost of this project. I would be very appreciative of other ideas for how to more efficiently move each of the segments individually. Or if there are more affordable linear servos out there that I haven't found, I would also be thankful!
