Locking her in the bathroom is only going to teach her that you will sometimes lock her in a bathroom for no reason, and she will trust you less. I guarantee she will have no idea that it's a punishment for going in your studio.

Anyway, lots of things here.

  • 1.) You need to address why she's doing it. Even if you solve the studio equation, the behavior could come out elsewhere. Cats, like all animals, including people, have a number of simple, innate, but wildly strong needs. If you want to keep them happy so they don't fuck shit up, you need to satisfy those needs. Google that and figure it out, but at the very least I'm guessing she needs more things to chew on - feed her dental treats, get her some cat grass, find her toys that she will chew on etc. Also consider getting one of the "calming diffusers" so she's more chill overall.

Decide if you are going to keep the door closed or not. If you can't trust yourself to keep it closed at all times,

  • 2.) get a can of compressed air and put it somewhere convenient to reach when you catch her in the room. DO NOT SPRAY IT IN HER FACE - this can freeze their eyes/nose etc and cause serious injury, so make sure you spray it from at least a few feet away. The sound to them is like you are hissing at them, and trust me they do not like it. After a few times, they will probably run as soon as they hear you pick up the can, and you don't even have to spray it.

  • 3.) Get some of this and spray it all around the doorway and floor inside and outside the doorway.

  • 4.) Consider a baby/pet gate that is tall enough she can't jump over and slats too narrow to squeeze through. They make them for a reason. If nothing else it will force you to think about keeping the door closed.

  • 5.) If you're still worried, get the curly plastic cable wraps designed to protect cables, like this:

My first thought is cable wraps like this or this. It won't necessarily stop her from chewing on it, but it'll keep her from chewing through it. If you're lucky she won't like the texture of the wrap and will leave it alone.

You can also attack the problem from the other end by getting the kitty more things to do/investigate/climb on/chew on. There are dedicated cat chew toys, or since you know she likes this particular cable you could leave it out (unplugged!) where she can get at it easily. Just watch that she's not chewing off pieces of plastic and swallowing them.

I use spiral cable wrap. It comes in various diameters and can be removed and reused.
