I don't get it. It honestly doesn't look that great or amazing, and reading the wiki summary for it the book doesn't sound all that ground breaking either.

I haven't really seem anything in the West that does this whole "video game culture becomes life" thing all that great. EPIC is probably the best version of this genre I've seen in the West. But I think Japan has done much better with things like .Hack//Sign and Log Horizon

I would suggest Epic by Conor Kostick. It's a good virtual reality/dystopian society/sci-fi story about how a video game comes to take over the government and economy of a society. It's not too long, and it quickly became one of my favorites.

Chell (Portal), Batman (Batman), Drack (Mass Effect: Andromeda), Erik Haroldson ( EPIC by Conor Kostick ) , and Rambo (Rambo)

As someone already mentioned, there are a couple of books with similar plots. Can you tell us when you read the book? It could be Epic, by Conor Kostick

Epic, by Connor Kostick, is YA and sort of litRPG. :)

I don't really understand your confusion.

Let me try and rephrase my post:

I just finished the book "Epic" (written by Conor Kostick; see Amazon ) for the 100th time and as you might or might not know large parts of the book play in a game called "Epic". A MMO.
I'm looking for an actual game that comes as close as possible to that.

So I'd like some recommendations of what to look at :).

Thanks for your time...

You may find Epic interesting. I haven't read it since I was in high school, but it seems to match what you're looking for.

For those of you that are interested in this WP, check out Epic. A book with this concept (though the game is more everquest-like).

Note to self: don't read sad books while you're on an airplane.

Epic is a fantastic book, the whole series is really good, I couldn't recommend it enough
