Some people just appreciate the minor differences? In our industry, I think it's more common for people to develop a taste for $340 keyboards and $1300 headphones. I don't think the average person would appreciate why they're so much more expensive than what you'd find at Best Buy. I guess one person's "45gram sensitivity, 4mm travel Topre Electrostatic Capacitive Key Switches" is another person's "fabric made on vintage loopwheeling machines in Japan."
And acquire $1,300 price tag.

Budget: $1,200 - $1,800
Source: iMac, Macbook Pro
Requirements for Isolation: Only at home
Preferred Type of Headphone: Full Sized
Preffered Tonal Balance: Overall balanced. I really dislike strong bass.
Past Headphones: iPhone headphones
Preferred Music: I have wide range of taste in music. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Eminem, Henry Jackman, Dr. Dre, The Doors, Apocalyptica, Nirvana, Pink Floyd to name a few.
I have had a look at these headphones but I'm quite clueless.
Which one would be better for my preferences listed above? Is there any alternative you would add?
I consider these two for amp (Do I need one?):
I don't know anything about amps. I don't even know if I'd need one.
I've spent my entire life using crappy headphones. I've been wanting to buy something good for a long time so I think the time has come.
I'd be thankful for comments and suggestions.

Well, there's the TH900's at 1,105.- after discount...
>Don't be afraid to go a bit high on the price
K, then the Fostex TH-900
One of the highest quality closed headphones around.
Hifiman HE-500's are also good and significantly more affordable than TH-900s.
Well, since you already looked up the Schitt, might as well get both the Magni and Modi.
Magni($99) - Modi ($99)
For cans, it depends. There's gonna be a lot of different talks in regards to what sounds best. My advice would be to visit some stores, and give them a test with the songs you listen to.
Check head-fi for some comparisons and what not. A quick google:

I currently own the : ATH M50x, VModa M100, HD650. I prefer the bass on the vmoda more than any other cans i own atm. But my endgame would be the Fostex TH900.
