If you want to save some money and get familiar with your Mac, you can purchase a battery, trackpad, and toolkit. This are for a 13" macbook pro A1278, so your pricing may be different. This repair is extremely easy and a guide can be found on iFixit.

iFixit tool kit

I've convinced the last two places I've worked at to purchase these, they work really well, have most bits you ever need.

Well I was able to find out in the youtube comments. lol. Here's a link.

Honestly, I've been to Fry's and never really found one I like for the right price. This one actually looks pretty good; I'm really liking the form factor.

Best set of drivers I've ever purchased: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008KOTNVA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1535523722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B007XGWQ2Y&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0SCSMJHSRPKJF9FV8V14

I use a dozen or so bootable flash drives that I keep updated sysprep'd images of every version of windows. I can usually do a reinstall of Windows in 15-25 minutes including drivers.

I also purchase Targus universal laptop AC adapters in bulk for around $9 each. Resell for $45.

For the bit-kit you'll want this one.

http://www.amazon.com/iFixit-54-Bit-Driver-Kit/dp/B008KOTNVA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368022940&sr=8-1&keywords=ifixit+54+bit+driver+kit

It's a good quality and you can disassemble almost everything with it.

Which PSU kit would you recommend instead? I can still return it and get a different one instead. As long as it isn't more expensive (or is only barely more expensive) As to the screw kit: http://www.amazon.com/iFixit-54-Bit-Driver-Kit/dp/B008KOTNVA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452799451&sr=8-1&keywords=ifixit+54-bit+driver+kit
I also bought a ground bracelet which only cost 4 dollars. Which I guess isn't worth mentioning at a price that cheap.
Finally: I bought something that will not effect the computer in any way other than make it more 'pimped out' with the color of the case. Here's what that is: http://www.amazon.com/Logisys-LDXRM12C-Adhesive-Flexible-Extendible/dp/B00H34FPZG it cost me 20 bucks.

I also failed to mention that the price I paid (after rebate) for all of this is actually $1140. $1200 is how much I paid at the store BEFORE rebate. And since the prices you mentioned were only slightly less than that (without factoring in the screw kit and lighting system which cost more than the difference) it seems to be I got a fair deal price-wise. You say I don't need this much RAM although I suppose I'll keep it anyway. I'm definitely open to switching my PSU though. Although again, it cannot be much more expensive than the one I already have, and if it's the same price (or less) that's all the better.

Same type used by macs and iphones, this kit has a selection of them (and is a very nice kit).

EDIT - I think the macs use pentalobe, and these have six lobes, but that kit has the six lobes with the circle in the middle (I'm using it right now on an HP SFF).

I recommend you go with the iFixit 54 Driver Kit its $35 dollars on amazon and will open up almost every you will need in the electronic department, and I would go for something more like Ryobi HP44L for you electric screwdriver, the Flipout you had post does seem too comfortable to use if you plan to do a lot with it. The ryobi and a 68 piece driver set on amazon is only $54 between that kit and the iFixit kit (which is the kit that your Vastar kit is copying) you should be about to do anything for common stuff around your apartment to all the electronic work you could think of. iFixit Ryobi Driver Ryobi Set

I just posted my "Basic Tool Kit" but I don't think you really need all that for what you want to do, pick up these key item as you get extra money or as you can to up grade what you have, Channellock Pliers Set, Estwing Hammer, Wera Screw Set, Milwaukee Tape Measure, and Milwaukee Utilty Knife. With all of this I can't think of anything that could slow you down in an apartment setting.

EDIT: grammar and Format

Ifixit screw driver set. Others don't compare in quality, and the organization, and having labels for where each bit goes makes it the only one I haven't lost pieces from.

And the Weller portasol. I'm soldering certified and this, when in the field vs in the shop is as good as it gets. It's a great starting kit for shop work too.
