Ravelry is the place for knitters, from beginner to award-winning. Personally, I'm a loom knitter. I like it because it doesn't require quite as much focus as needle knitting, so I can knit and watch Netflix at the same time. ;) I can also churn out hats, scarves, and shawls to donate to charity very quickly. The warm fuzzies I get from doing charitable works are helpful for my recovery.

Weaving is the one art I have the fewest online resources for. I just bought this lap loom and started playing around. I also hand-spin yarn-- these two arts work together very well because spinning (once you get the hang of it) is pretty mindless and weaving can be relatively mindless or require a lot of focus, depending on the project.

I was hoping you'd pick embroidery 'cause that's my wheelhouse. ;) And with your quilting experience, it would be easy to pick up if you're already skilled in hand sewing. It takes a bit more equipment to start than knitting or weaving but there are SO many things you can do with it needlework, from cross-stitch to embroidery to needle painting. You can even re-upholster chairs with needlework (needlepoint or bargello.) If you decide to give needlework a try, I recommend buying a cross-stitch kit to start. They generally will come with the fabric, thread, and needle you'll need for the pattern inside. All you'll need to buy separately is something to secure the fabric while you stitch, like a plastic hoop or q-snap frame (I'd recommend the latter.) Aaaaaaaand if you do decide to give embroidery a try, then this is the site to check out.

Do let me know if you decide to pick up one of these fiber arts-- I want to see what you make! Also, I would like to express my extreme jealousy of your quilting ability. I'm dying just to learn how to use a sewing machine. =P Out of curiosity, have you thought about making quilts to donate to a women's shelter or a halfway home? Using one's hobby skills for a charitable purpose is a powerful tool for sobriety-- at least for me it is, because it reminds me that others are counting on me to stay sober so I can help them.
