Yes, I would chop the veggies very small and put them in the same bowl, along with a few pellets. That way if they're going to be a picky eater, they might still accidentally taste some of the veggies.

So I consulted my boyfriend, who has done all the research about budgies. It is the diet they are eating, the food has too many calories for the birds, and they don't get enough excercise to burn it off. We have had the budgies for 3 years now and they are happy and healthy. We feed them something called nutriberries. It's a lower calorie diet and just enough for indoor birds so fat doesn't build up on their liver. If you are interested, we buy them on amazon here
