Don't forget to get a foot pedal so you can use your feet for Ctrl and Meta.

Should get a floor button and bind jump to a foot tap?like this?

u/gobblegourd · 3 pointsr/Colemak

Here are the instructions for Elementary OS Luna; it should also work in Ubuntu.

  1. Open your System Settings
  2. Under the "Hardware" section, choose "Keyboard"
  3. Navigate to the "Options" tab
  4. In the left pane, select "Caps Lock key behavior"
  5. In the right pane, select the very bottom option: "Make Caps Lock an additional Control but keep the Caps_Lock keysym"

That's it. In addition to this, I also chose to enable caps lock by pressing both shift keys simultaneously since sometimes it makes sense so use caps lock, especially in programming. You can find this under "Miscellaneous compatibility options" > "Both Shift-Keys together toggle Caps Lock".

For emacs, I purchased one of these and made the pedals alt, shift, and ctrl respectively. You have to run the software in Windoze to make it work initially, but your configuration saves into the pedal itself.

Anyone in here use a foot pedal for gaming? Trying to find a good foot pedal that doesn't keyboard ghost (a.k.a use two keys at the same time and still register). I got this from Amazon, but this one ghosts: https://www.amazon.com/Lemo-1640835-Control-Keyboard-Action/dp/B00B3PV47O/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=foot+pedal&qid=1573834450&s=electronics&sr=1-10

Side question, what keys should I put on my foot pedal for WoW?

u/JaFrasher · 3 pointsr/rocksmith

You can use any USB foot pedal, and map the keys the way you want. Take this one for example:

Hey, nice to hear from you!

I really like your switch and how easy it is to open and mod it. Also, the actual electrical switch inside is nice, and I like that you provide both connections for an opener and closer switch and have the schematics printed to the bottom. The material quality is nice and it all feels really sturdy.
If I had to name one thing that you could do better is that there is quite a large dead zone between staring to press the metal pedal until it reaches the actual electrical switch inside.
So in terms of tactile feedback, when I start to press the switch I get a resistance when I reach the electrical switch, and then need to press deeper to actually actuate it.
This also makes a double click noise.
I don’t know if you have any reason for this besides manufacturing tolerances, but at least for what I use it, it would be better to not have the dead zone.
Maybe you could add a screw that can be pre-tensioned by the user to change the upper endpoint if the switch motion to the point where the electrical switch starts?

Edit:
I also want to point out that i think you misunderstood the comments that are talking about bad switches.
Those comments were not about your switches but about the plastic pedals that Amazon sells that already come in a configuration with two or three pedals an a USB cord.
This are the bad ones:
https://www.amazon.com/Lemo-1640835-Control-Keyboard-Action/dp/B00B3PV47O/ref=mp_s_a_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1540335184&sr=8-31&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=foot+switch&dpPl=1&dpID=41FnKbru2AL&ref=plSrch
I had these at first and they suck because they are optically switched so the provide no feedback at all, and also they feel really cheap.

I use a set of pedals for Ctrl and Super (my xmonad meta key) and it's great. I don't use them all the time but when I'm doing some serious typing and my hands are starting to hurt I switch to using them.

I also have my keyboard set up so that holding space works as ctrl using xcape. This is much easier to use (not to mention more portable) and also helped a lot with the RSI pains I was getting. However it doesn't completely fix the problem: I get thumb pains sometimes when working this way for a long time hence the pedals.

The combination of these things has helped enormously.

edit: I should add, these are the pedals I use. I'm not sure I can recommend them though: one of the three pedals has broken (about 1.5 years old not), cheap though.

I used these instructions to bind them to arbitrary keys. Unfortunately the instructions don't work on newer versions of Ubuntu (and presumably other distros). I think the issue is with DBus having replaced some of the tools needed. I've got about 2/3 of a blog post written explaining how to bind them on modern Ubuntu so let me know if you get stuck.

I bought this one - it works okay. It has a CD but I downloaded the .exe to configure it from the vendor.

It lets you program the pedals like they were keys. So Tab for left pedal, I put r for reload I think on the right pedal, I think shift-tab on the middle pedal (Steam overlay) but sometimes I change it up.

I just got really used to the wall wart for running.

u/raynebc · 2 pointsr/rocksmith

I bought one of these several months ago:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B3PV47O/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But I never got around to using it since Rocksmith was prone to stop processing your guitar audio if you changed tones (F# keys), forcing you to replug your cable into the computer. Since Rocksmith 2 will automatically change tones at the right time, this wouldn't be nearly as necessary, except maybe for jamming in session mode with multiple tones or something.

u/scone527 · 2 pointsr/rocksmith

If you're playing on PC, I do believe I've heard those can work as long as they can be mapped to F1/F2/F3. This has been posted as well for PC foot pedals.

u/Dungarth · 2 pointsr/leagueoflegends

Two of those and you got all your abilities and summoner spells covered. So now you can get a regular mouse with only a few buttons for pings and whatnot.

u/Hakkapell · 2 pointsr/runescape

I actually haven't talked to him in a while since he quit Smite, I'll have to get back with you once I find him. I'm sure there could be one that would have large enough buttons to work for you, just look around. Also, have you heard of footboards and joysticks?

https://www.amazon.com/Lemo-1640835-Control-Keyboard-Action/dp/B00B3PV47O/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1486920629&sr=1-2&keywords=Stinky+board

That's one of the cheaper ones, you basically do like with a car pressing your feet, weird at first but I would bind them to things like food or ability keybinds in games like RTSs so that I could still use the abils without the mouse, but it wasnt on the board. Hope it helped.

Having a push to mute, scene switcher, etc on a foot pedal is fucking awesome. I do console with a capture card, and these are crucial.

My wallet is about to become $30 lighter.

u/toymachinesh · 1 pointr/rocksmith

http://amzn.to/2EV82Yq not sure which one would be best but there's a bunch of USB foot switches that would probably work well with Rocksmith.

u/TheBloodEagleX · 1 pointr/hardware

Hey, I also want to recommend USB foot pedals (there's a few different ones): https://www.amazon.com/Lemo-1640835-Control-Keyboard-Action/dp/B00B3PV47O/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479382185&sr=1-2&keywords=USB+foot+pedals

They'll help you have a bit more control over whatever you want; might as well use your feet too.

Get one of these, keybind PTT to a foot pedal

u/eckre · 1 pointr/buildapc

you mean for stuff like this? http://www.amazon.com/Control-Keyboard-Action-Switch-Pedal/dp/B00B3PV47O what do you want to do, bottom line?

u/Lepony · 1 pointr/dragonballfighterz

Unfortunately strangers on the internet are not mind readers.

You should really consider looking into alternative input methods. Brolylegs plays with literally his tongue due to being literally unable to use his hands for anything practical.

I don't know how severe your nerve damage is or where it's centralized, but if you can type at a steady 15WPM you should consider utilizing a keyboard or a Hitbox controller. Or even alternatively a normal fightstick, if your wrists are far better off than your fingers.

Alternatively if you're playing on PC, you can reduce the strain of your hands by getting something like this foot pedal thing. Hook it up to an AutoHotkey script for basic inputs and you can probably work something out.

u/theimmc · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Not quite the keyboard you have in mind, but it works. I have one. http://www.amazon.com/Control-Keyboard-Action-Switch-Pedal/dp/B00B3PV47O/

I bought mine from eBay, shipped from China. So you can probably find it there for lower shipping.
