If you want to integrate video sources, I would recommend getting a home theater receiver. It will work fine for stereo music and offers a ton of good features.
This is a good choice: https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs730h/denon-avr-s730h-7.2-ch-x-75-watts-a/v-receiver-w/heos/1.html
Next you need some speakers, I’d get these Infinity R162, it’s a killer price on some great speakers. They will play loud and clear and work well for music and movies: https://www.harmanaudio.com/speakers/R162BK-Z.html
Lastly you need a sub, again Infinity has a great sale on this and i don’t think there’s anything better unless you spend quite a bit more for a RSL speedwoofer: https://www.infinityspeakers.com/reference-series-home/REFERENCE+SUB+R10.html

Would this Denon receiver be good for a long time? With the smsl ad18 I was gonna use these cables, but I guess they wouldnt work with that receiver.
Micca and Mediabridge both make affordable speaker cables
They are nicer to use than bare wire but bare wire still works just as well.
Denon X1500: factory refurb for ~$300 shipped from Accessories4Less. Don’t know it’s capabilities, but it works with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, and Josh.AI, and has AirPlay 2 and HEOS.
HSU VTF-2 MK5: ~$610 shipped.
For speakers, best I can come up with in terms of fitting your budget, sounding good, and not bland black/white in color, is something like the Wharfedale Reva 4 in Rosewood, which Music Direct has open box for 25% off.
That’s ~$2410
Get a subwoofer cable for ~$10. You also need speaker wire/cable, these Micca ones are good, are convenient due to having banana plugs, and are red to match the speakers.
Dayton SUB1000
Topping MX3 amplifier
Now you've got like $250ish for speakers.
My choice would be the PSB Alpha P3. All around a great speaker. I did a writeup here.
Another great option would be the Wavecrest HVL-1. They're on sale here. And here is my writeup of those. If you'll be putting the speakers close to the wall, those are definitely the better option.
The amplifier I recommended has a DAC. Use that one instead of the one on your computer. It'll sound better. That will be the optical or USB input.
You'll need foam under your speakers. This will do the trick. You don't want everything on your desk to rattle. Also, it will aim them up at your ears.
You can make your own speaker cable, or just but some pre-made
You need an amplifier to power the speakers. The NFB will provide signal to that amplifier but you still need one. The ones in this guide will suffice. Amazon basics RCA's and Micca's new speaker wires are what I would go with.
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9436 and https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=14915 or buy premade for $20 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZ5HCTM
16 gauge is fine for those
You do not want a surround sound for listening to music. It sounds like you may just want music playing in multiple locations at once? Maybe a few echo dots will accomplish this?

I was in a similar situation and ended up getting a pair of KEF Q150's with a Yamaha RX-V385 receiver. The Yamaha isn't on sale anymore but the KEF's are still at $398 from $650.
When I bargained with 2001 Audio Video, they offered me the KEF's for $350 (from the sale price of $398) and the Yamaha 385 for $280 (from the sale price of $299). And the KEF's come with a free pair of bluetooth headphones.
Visions will give you a good discount as well, but they'll try and push their house brand Soundstage first.
You'll get a better deal bargaining at one of those places versus buying from Amazon.
I just have the 2.0 setup right now but I'm happy with the KEF's and the receiver leaves lots of room to upgrade in the future.
And I got these wires to connect, and then these HDMI to connect the receiver with everything else
I am new, no idea how most of this stuff works.
> So if I were to go with the MX3, does it connect to pc via usb?
Yes.
> Then connect the 3.5m to rca from the MX3 to the sub
Yes, but its a RCA to RCA "subwoofer cable"
> and this from the XM3 to the Micas?
Yes, but i would go with Amazon basics 14 AWG guage speaker wire on a spool. Its half the price and you get 50 feet.
Thanks for the input. So if I were to go with the MX3, does it connect to pc via usb? Then connect the 3.5m to rca from the MX3 to the sub and this from the XM3 to the Micas?
What do I need to get this setup working with my desktop PC?

Do I need anything else to get this to work for my PC? An AUX cable? Amp? Additional cables? Receiver?
Thanks.
This is a copy and paste from /r/audiophile, was looking at getting your guys' and gals' opinions on my proposed setup for my boyfriend. Thanks!

Well, if you're going with passive speakers then no matter what you'll need some speaker cables to hook up your speakers to the amplifier. See how far apart the speakers will be and purchase some cabling or premade cables. Here are some affordable premade cables. Here are some much nicer looking(imo) cables for $10 more (you need to purchase two). That's about as nice of a cable as you'd ever "need".
What else you'd need would depend on what features (like a remote) you would want and how many inputs you would want. Technically you can go from, for example, your phone to the A-100 with a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
In a smaller viewing area, like I think you're describing, small speakers like the passive MB42X ($79.99) will be adequate and 100% better than TV speakers. Add in a small amp (no DAC, just let the TV do that for now) for $79.99 and you're set at about $160.00. Use the left over cash for decent speaker wire and some isolation pads.
In the future, shift the whole rig to another TV or a PC or use the little speakers for a rear surround setup.

Thanks again for all the advice. I had a question about wiring. I'll be using the highly rated speaker wires below. I bought two sets (4 total pairs). I plan on using 1 pair to connect the L and R. The second pair was intended for center. However, I'm not sure I can split the pair so that I can use the 2 center speakers in series as you described? It sounds like it would need three separate wires. Does it matter whether I use the black or red wire for the 'red to black' in between speakers?
