Seems like it's history isn't full of confidence. Found this gem which is featured on their website. 'cause I want to pay another 130 bucks to use a keyboard on stuff when I could just pay 30 dollars and do the same thing, or I dunno just buy a bluetooth keyboard/mouse for 60 bucks

KEYBOARDS

-The issue with Mobile Studio Pro is there is no normal USB. This means many wonderful keyboard options are not an option. Unless of course, you are ok with a large adapter sticking out making the device less functional/harder to handle.
-Because of this, BLUETOOTH is required. Options are...hard to find. But this is what I have found so far.

Kensington keyboard: $40-$60 http://amzn.to/2gf1jbn
This keyboard looks very promising. Not too thin looking, also it is full sized. More importantly...BLUETOOTH.
.

Microsoft keyboard + mouse $50-$100 http://amzn.to/2fYNL62
This keyboard looks only ok. I think it will be too thin. same for the mouse. But I can see how some might like it. Only thing I like is it is bluetooth.
.

1byone keyboard + trackpad $20-$30 http://amzn.to/2fMTihu
Normally I dont like this type of thing...but thinking about how I will use this device, mostly pen and touch input with only ocasional mouse and keyboard...this actually seems very useful. The keyboard isnt ideal to me because I actually really like the number pad...but this is my new favorite style. I might get this.
.

Please reply here with other good looking keyboard options!

> I come to /r/mechanicalkeyboards with no preconceived notions about what a keyboard could or should be.
Yet I'm surprised to see so many keyboards with the tall boxy keys and smaller top surfaces

Yeah I was exactly the same. I knew very little about mechanical keyboards, except that they were super customizable. Upon getting here I discovered that the market isn't as wide as it appears from the outside, and in the end my impression is that your keyboard can be perfectly tailored to you, so long as it's also what everyone else wants.

> On the other hand I love the broad, flat keys of my Mac keyboard. It's super smooth even after 5 years of use. The travel is short and I know just when the key will activate electrically so I can be very precise. I wish it weren't white (in fact, it's mostly brown these days) ... I'm most inclined to just buy another Mac keyboard.

Microsoft makes a board that is, apart from a weird key layout, basically a black Apple keyboard, near as I can tell. Actually looking at the reviews now it might have some pretty big issues. How on earth does a keyboard not work on Windows 7?

>Are there enthusiasts out there with similar feelings? Am I missing something about modern mechanical keyboards that I should know?

Yeah I'm in a similar boat. I currently use a Logitech K800 with nearly flat low-profile keys and scissor switches. I love the feel of the keys themselves, and I love the super precise actuation of the switches, just they're too heavy for me and I find it tiring to type on given that I alternate between it and my Surface Pro 3's Type Cover every few hours.

The K800 is very flat and rounded, and I got it after using my G15 2007 that had OEM-styled keys that weren't sculpted. I liked that keyboard in general, but the tall, narrow keys made me trip up a lot so I replaced it. After a fair few years with my current board, I decided to quit being a plebeian and upgrade to a mechanical, only to discover after a couple of days that I can't actually get any keycaps that I like on a mechanical.

The only ones I don't mind so much are those of the Steelseries Apex M800 - but I have no use for RGB lighting and as such the price is way above what its worth to me, and the caps aren't available, nor would they fit on anything else. So.

(I think G20 caps look horrible, and they're not really available in any colors that appeal to me.)

I'm likely going to end up building a custom board and machining some chiclet-style keys to fit MX stems

Woops, that turned out to be a bit longer post than I intended.

Ok, I know you wanted trackpad but I like this keyboard - the keys have the same feel as the SP4 keyboard (which I love!) but are more raised for easier typing. It's bluetooth keyboard + mouse combo.

Microsoft Bluetooth Designer Keyboard -- I recently got one of these at work-- man what a great, simple, slick wireless keyboard. You'll have to ignore the fact that it is bundled with a miserable mouse.

I used to have an MSI Ghost Pro as well, this feels like a better version of THAT keyboard. Also similar to the mac keyboard.

Is there a reason you want to go wired? Heading into BIOS a lot? :P. If you really wanted you could probably get the standard apple keyboard and use that..

Or the designer keyboard, if you like black: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UPKMVCU/

I've never used the mouse, but I use the keyboard all the time when docked. It feels very similar to the surface keyboards and, as such, makes for relatively seamless transitions between typing at my desk and on the road.
