Oh man, the danger is real for me, no doubt.... I just sketched out a cool cage based on your design and a set of wire mesh cube shelves. I can't wait to try to put it all together! I love weekend projects that involve a trip to the hardware store. :-) I'm going to do a smaller litter box for sure though, I usually do a 10x10 litter box at the largest and then use fleece for the rest of the bedding, it's much easier to clean. You could use the same base pan that you have, add a smaller section for litter, and cover the coroplast base in fleece! That way the bottom is still easy to clean because it's plastic, and the litter box is easier to remove. I lately I've been trimming down the sides of a natures miracle disposable litter pan so it's not too tall for them and it'll fit under the wheel well enough. But be careful, I've totally sliced myself cutting those down, too... it was a very sharp knife!

I do need to find a good way to keep him from tracking litter all over his cage though... I'm thinking of trying out one of those litter mats for cats but I'm not sure if his little feet would get caught in it!

Dsiposable litter boxes with Fresh Step clumping litter are the best thing I've ever used- and I've tried everything over the years. A very wide, sturdy scoop and unscented biodegradable poop bags with handle ties to keep the used litter & bacteria contained and odor-free in trash can. No mess, no litter spilled on the floor.

Scooping only takes a minute and the large poop bags with tie handles are worth every penny. One box lasts me 2 years, I scoop every other day- 1 cat. This makes scooping so much less of a pain in the ass.

I use Nature's Miracle disposable cat boxes- I get the Jumbo and use it inside of a covered litter box. But they are totally fine on their own, they do not absorb pee, leak or fall apart. I have one cat and I toss the Nature's Miracle box every 2-3 months, litter & all then replace with a new box and fresh litter. I NEVER smell the catbox at all and will NEVER scrub out a litter box again!

Buy the cheap kitty litter and use disposable kitty litter boxes. Slide the crap laden tray into a kitchen bag, tie it, and leave it outside. Have bf toss it into the garbage can. Done with minimal or no contact with kitty litter.

I wish I wasn't allergic to cats. I love them! Anyway, good luck!
