Modem

Router

That combination should be comparable or better than the standard router modem combo comcast gives.

What you have there is a combined router and cable modem. Should be fairly easy to find a replacement (something like this, for example).

You could also get a plain router and connect it via Ethernet to your existing modem/router unit.

This is the router I use to set up the sub network. My primary router is a basic all in one router I bought from walmart. I have a switch in my attic.

The Comcast provided router/modem is a huge hunk of junk. Buy your own DOCSIS 3.0 modem. The Arris CM820 has been giving my 25mbps advertised connection an actual speed of 31mbps down and 7 up.

Make sure you don't get a crap router to go with that good new modem. I would suggest going and looking at routers on Amazon and narrowing it down to the ones that have the features you want, and then checking reviews for all of them to see which one is most reliable. Reliability, stable connection, and ability to have decent range are far more important than any gimmicky features that may be advertised.

This cheap and reliable router has been doing just fine for me. http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Router-External-Antennas-WNR2020v2/dp/B00MRVJYEI

If you are running windows 10 you can go into your network options and create a mobile hotspot. But since your PC doesn't have wifi built in there is no way to broadcast a signal. I would just go buy a cheap router and go about it that way. Here is a simple basic one that would suffice.

Here seems like a fairly cheap VDSL router on Amazon that handles general use and such. Depends on your price range, as well.

Not true at all. Heck you if you just need basic wifi services you can get a router for below 30 bucks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MRVJYEI?tag=b0c55-20

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I meant using the antenna cable to go from your router into your bunker so it gets the signal direct to your router rather than using a second repeater on the end of the cable which would have to go through your other router as well as its self. I was just trying to remove latency, every millisecond counts in VR.

The antenna I meant was something like this but your router would need to be able to have an antenna screwed into it like one of these so you just unscrew it and add the cabled one then run that to your bunker.

I have a NetGear N300 $10 (depending on shipping)

and

a NetGear N750 $35

But I can't find the boxes or manuals for them (for the moment at least), so either one will just come with the router itself and the power cord. There is a manual reset on each so you'll be able to easily reset it to factory settings.
