You're exaggerating the degree to which Splatoon's traffic is anything special. As evidence?
This is my modem:

This is my router:

My internet connection is a mere 5 Mbps/1 Mpbs.

And I play without issue.

And I can connect to the hotspot at the T-Mobile kiosk down at the mall, and play without interruption. And I can connect to the public wifi at the Panda Express up the road, and similarly avoid disconnection.

When my bargain bin, antiquated home equipment can maintain a consistent connection, and a pair of public networks including a hotspot enable the same, I have a lot of trouble endorsing the opinion that other players should roll their own routers. I agree that avoiding rental fees for ISP equipment is a wise choice, and I don't think anyone disagrees about preferring the 5 GHz band. After that, I think you run off the rails.

Speaking of the awesome breeder! Also, I couldn't really find anything else about the 2wire router. I would suggest buying a Netgear or Linksys router (hopefully might solve the problem). Never had a problem with Netgear so far.

Don't know if this is the right place to post.

  • Looking to replace my wireless router Netgear WGR614v10 with something that has good range, is reliable and doesn't disconnect, and can handle 2 smart phones, a PS4, a Smart TV, a Chromebook, iPad, and 2 PCs. Really, I think anything will be an upgrade from this router that we have had for 10 years or so. I HAVE to use a powerline adapter in my room because I don't have any ethernet ports, but I experience drops frequently. Budget is no more than $100. How is the Nighthawk AC1750 or AC1900?

  • If I want to connect my future GPU (probably a GTX 1070) to 3 monitors, how would I go about doing that? I see that some have 2 HDMI ports and 2 display ports but I don't know the first thing about display port. Should I look into a card with 3 HDMI ports?

  • I want to connect my PS4 to one of the monitors, but the monitors only have one HDMI port (and a VGA and DVI port). Do I just need to buy a switch? I'm not against buying at least one new monitor that has multiple HDMi ports. If that's the case, can you recommend me a better 1080p 24 inch monitor?

The adapter is an EnGenius brand. The only people selling it give an overall vague description, but say it is "a high power 11N 1T1R USB adapter with external antenna. With the specially fine tuned RF design it is capable of deliver up to 27dBm. It is fully forward compatible with 802.11 b/g standard and support pre-N technology". No word on if it's one or two band receiving.

The router is a Netgear Wireless G Router 614
