I know she's probably just shitty, but don't use that furminator on her. It's ripping out hair that is still attached. Use this instead. I have thick-coated (okay seriously, it's a fucking pelt) cats, and while they hated me and everything about me with the Furminator, the ShedMonster is very well tolerated and pulls out a similar amount of hair.

Also make sure you're feeding her some decent food. Anything you buy at the grocery store isn't decent, except maybe canned food. Thank you for taking in a rescue kitty though, especially a declawed one! Good on you. :)

For the real fine floof, use a slicker brush like this

If you want to get the undercoat out, use a deshedding tool like this one

Brush first with the slicker brush and get all the tangles out before you use the deshedding tool. You may also need a comb to get some of the finer hair straight before going with the deshedding tool. If you really want to manage the hair, make sure you are washing regularly, every 4-6 weeks or so and using a shampoo and conditioner designed to reduce shedding. I really like the Furminator shampoo and conditioner. It helps if you are able to use a high powered dryer to dry them, that will take out so much hair you won't believe it. It will make it a lot more manageable to brush in between baths. If you don't have access to one I recommend you take your dog to a professional groomer.

Sort of. My process is this:

Before the cat comes into the bathroom

  1. Fill bathtub about six inches high with warm water. Not quite tepid but not hot. Finish this before you bring the cat in.

  2. Make sure you have a cup and your cat shampoo right on the edge of the bathtub, next to the wall. That way they can't knock it over when they try to escape.

3.Have your shower curtain on the inside of the bathtub and have it about halfway across your bathtub.

  3. Pet your cat and give them treats.

  4. Pick your cat up like a baby and talk to it while walking into the bathroom.

  5. Make sure your cat cannot see the bathwater and put the cat into the water backwards. Your cat will notice what is going on when you get close so be quick toward the end.

Now you have your cat in the bathtub

  6. Block the part of the bathtub that isn't by the curtain with your body.

  7. Your cat will be yowling. Ignore it. Like this!

  8. Start with the back, then feet, then belly. Use your cup to start rinsing the cat.

  9. Your cat will try to escape. That's why you have the curtain blocking one side and your body on the other. Like this! When s/he does that, push them back in. Ignore any claws and if they start to smack at you lightly grab their neck skin. (I'm tired and don't remember the correct name.)

  10. Drain the water while still blocking cattos escape route. Run your hands down the fur to squeegee out some of the water.

  11. Have a large towel nearby and wrap is completely around your cat. Hold them for a few minutes. Once some of the water has been soaked up, let them to the ground and begin to rub the towel over your cat, if it lets you.

12.5. I recommend brushing your cat with your grooming tools while it is trapped in the bathroom with you. It can't get away and all this hair will give it a hairball. I recommend this for the light grooming after your cat is dry because there will be fur everywhere. I recommend this for general brushings. Especially if your cat gets hairballs.

  12. Let the cat free from the bathroom and be prepared to be randomly attacked later that day. :D

A good thing for your cat would be to have a space heater, sun spot or somewhere warm for your cat to hang out for a while. If you don't, keep your house really warm. No one wants to see their cat shiver!

This method has been curated through bathing feral and friendly cats. This also assumes your cat isn't going to go psycho and go for the throat. lol

Edit: Reddit did something odd with my numbering but I'm too lazy to care.

I bought a ShedMonster for my cat. It's a brush that gets the undercoat of your pet. It doesn't completely stop the problem of her fur getting on my clothes, but it helps. Good luck!

This is the one that I use:

It is a really great value, and it has rounded edges so that it doesn't hurt the cat. It kind of becomes more of a massage then the torture of being groomed. My Gizmo really does very good with tolerating this. I use the FURminator on her when she was a kitten and she liked it for about a week or so. Now when I try to use it she gets really pissed off at me. I have much better luck using the Monster Shed on her. Gizmo's groomer uses just a regular grooming comb and she's been growing for 30 years so she really knows how to deshed cats very very well I'm using just a grooming comb. Since I'm not a professional groomer and I'm not all that big into manhandling my cat just to get her groomed I use the Monster Shed on her because I don't have to fight her as badly. I highly recommend this as it's the best bang for your buck. It does a phenomenal job in removing the undercoat and your cats will not be angry at you.

I have what we think is a Great Pyr mix (her wisdom panel was submitted last week) but she definitely has pyr-like long flowing fur with a wooly undercoat. I think I own like 5 different brushes/combs, but her favorite and the one that keeps her looking nice are the slickers (I recommend getting one that deposits the fur off of it like this one. To get at the undercoat most efficiently though, my favorite is the Shed Monster. It really gets to that soft wooly undercoat and gets a lot out at a time. The Furminator does okay, but not as well as the Shed Monster in my experience. We do also use an undercoat rake as you mentioned, but I feel like it doesn't do as good of a job of consolidating the fur and kind of gets it all over. Hope this helps!

Edit: Just saw your pup tax. They look just like my girl!
