If I feel I need one, I prefer an ultralight trowel, like this. $3 ($8 with shipping in link), small, flat and only 2 oz. Here is one that ships free with prime.

I think the SOG shovel is just a knockoff of the standard entrenching tool. I can't see carrying around that much weight (3 lbs?!) just to have a crappy shovel with dubious head-detaching abilities -- I'd stick with something purpose-built for the task. If I'm just using the shovel to bury my shit anyway, I'll grab one of these.
