Did you try any of these items? I'm not able to apply it to any computer part I try, including the AsRock H110 you linked.

Really wanted to grab a Kraken X31, but I'll just wait for now.

EDIT: Just tried every item on that list and get the following error: "The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase." I haven't used the promo on any item yet, because every computer part I've tried gives me that error :(

SSDs have their lifespan rated by amount of data written to it. SSD Memory cells, however, have their lifespan rated by number of writes per cell. Increasing SSD capacity is going to increase its lifespan by increasing the number of cells.

The 240GB version of that SSD only costs $20 more, and upgrading the RX 480 to 8GB also only costs $20 more.

not sure why there is so much hate for pny, ive bought tons of SSD's from them for my work and never had issues. It seems thats what they are good at.
If your looking for a good cheap and fast SSD this is the one i buy for my company

Samsung 850 EVO 120gb vs PNY CS1311 240gb

Im replacing the optical drive on my laptop with an SSD to run the OS on. Is there any reason I should go for the Samsung over PNY even though the PNY is cheaper and has a higher capacity?

u/Mr_Dongerino · 3 pointsr/buildmeapc

One card stronger card is always better than two lesser cards, so yes go with the 1070. Just uninstall all the previous drivers with [this] (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) before.

I would give the 970's, CPU, Motherboard, RAM to the wife.

Amd is coming out with their new CPU in a little less than a month now, end of feburary. If you're looking to upgrade your rig you could do so then. Get their new CPU (there will be a few options so come ask us if you are unsure), a new motherboard, and DDR4 ram. Depends on your budget though, but it shouldn't be ridiculously expensive. You'll also need new mounting hardware for the cooler if you replace the motherboard, I think.

You could also get a bigger SSD, fit more games on it. This is my current recommendation for "budget" SSD's. Everyone seems to recommend Samsung SSD's but their not worth the price for most peoples usage cases in this sub.

I'm positive I have an SSD (here is the model).

I bought a case and cable that support UASP (here is the case).

I do still have OSX installed on the internal HDD. I was giving it a few days to make sure everything runs smoothly before formatting it. The Mac Mini runs considerably faster off the external SSD than it did with the internal HDD.

To re-iterate, I don't notice any day-to-day difference between my external SSD and my family's internal SSD in a Mac Mini. I do feel by boot time is a bit slower, though.

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Do it. I just got a second SSD because I wanted to switch, but wanted to keep Windows around as a backup. You can get a REALLY good 240GB for $60.

I threw in a cheaper PNY SSD I had laying around into my ebay auction bought 2012 (I also added 8 gb of ram too). My 2012 MBP is a beast of a second computer after doing this swap. No complaints on from the cheaper PNY SSD. Samsungs are considered better, but I've had luck with the two PNYs that I've had.

u/Superpickle18 · 2 pointsr/computers

I'd recommend the PNY CS1311
It's much cheaper, and isn't much of a performance difference. It's also rated to last longer.

u/jungjai153 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Oh crud! I used the wrong link haha was helping someone else with not getting this SSD. Mean't to use this http://www.amazon.com/PNY-CS1311-Internal-Solid-SSD7CS1311-240-RB/dp/B019H3B3OW/ref=sr_1_15?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1456902397&sr=1-15&keywords=ssd
Thanks for the heads up on the mistake I made haha :C

Like one of the users mentioned already, get the 850 EVO instead of the 840. However, if you want to save some money, the PNY CS1311 240gb SSD has similar read and write speeds to the 850 EVO and it's only $65.

Edit: Also if you can possibly hold out for a few months, AMD will be releasing their new Polaris graphics cards along with Nvidia's Pascal graphics cards later in the year. On March 14 AMD will be doing a showcase for Polaris so I'd definitely tune in to see what they will show.

I grabbed this one a couple of days ago at a friends recommendation. It is not a external ssd but it installed easily, works really well and I also got it on sale for $60.

u/hey_sasha_grey · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Hmm. So i was running 2 x4gb sticks of ram then i heard a suggestion to get more ram. Because I didnt really know what to do, and I read online that using different sticks of a ram can lead to bottlenecking I simply just purchased two more sticks of the previous type of ram sticks I had. Now all 4 slots are used up.

I am not really sure what an SSD is but I am definitely open to looking into it. Will this be a good purchase for an upgrade?

as far as CPU goes i think I want to go i5 or higher. I just dont know what is the most bang for my buck. Looking at steam games a lot require i5 (something somethings) for their games. I definitely regret skimping on my cpu the first time around.

Edit: also im glad my gpu doesnt seem like it needs to be upgraded yet so i will definitely focus on an ssd and cpu upgrade hopefully.

u/jca3746 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm sure the motherboard should come with at least 2 SATA cables. I would get rid of the cooler since you can't overclock and the stock cooler should be more than enough. If you don't mind loosing 35GBS, get this SSD instead. Those are the two off the top of my head.

u/JohnNecro · 1 pointr/buildapc

PNY, Sandisk, Samsung, Crucial, and kinston are all very good SSD's. The samsung 9/10 times faster than all of them, but by marginal differences that which dont usually make a difference

It's cheap and you should always put all of your software on a SSD rather a harddrive. It's faster. Much faster.

u/bowei006 · 1 pointr/buildapc

It's honestly a lot to do with your price range, and if you 'like' the board. You can post some ones you are interested in and I can help you with that.

You kinda lucked out

Here's a decent one, but I'd recommend spending a bit more for a nice 480gb one.

u/donukkonuk · 1 pointr/buildapc

thanks for suggestion! I'm planning to buy PSY 240GB SSD since its reviews are good and price is good also. I looked up for A-Data and people don't say good stuff about its performance.

About CPU, does upgrading to 6600 from 6500 worth $20?

As I said, I think I'll buy internal hd and case from a local store because of shipping price being too much but I'll look at those you suggested first!

u/BakaDango · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

People will tell you to stick with a more trustworthy brand (like a Samsung EVO) but I personally have the PNY 240 and it's worked perfectly for me.

Honestly, I would spluge for 240 as I currently am sitting at around ~120gb filled of just primary applications and a few games (Overwatch and Dark Souls) installed for speed (I use my 2tb Barracuda for the bulk of my Steam library). I also use this for programming/Web Development, so I definitely appreciate the extra room.

If you're just going to be doing basic web-browsing/word-processing, a 120 is totally fine; if you want to throw a few games on there get the 240 and you won't regret it.

u/tamarockstar · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

If you're going to Skylake, which you probably should, you should also go with DDR4 RAM. Keep the 8GB of DDR3 RAM in the other build.

Add this to the build. That would add $60 though. Alternatively you could bump the CPU down to an i3 like this:

Obviously the i5 is better for gaming and in general, but for CS:GO the i3 will do the job perfectly fine.

For upgrading the other system, I would wait a month or two for the prices of the 1070 and 480 to normalize. Then get one of those that suits your needs.

u/Melicalol · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I am pretty new to SSD stuff, and been wanting to get one for building my new rig. Should I buy this? or a 2.5" one?

Something like

https://www.amazon.com/PNY-CS1311-240GB-Internal-Solid/dp/B019H3B3OW

u/ksirutas · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

If it's any consolation, I just bought this: http://www.amazon.com/PNY-CS1311-Internal-Solid-SSD7CS1311-240-RB/dp/B019H3B3OW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462297592&sr=1-1&keywords=pny+ssd and put it in my laptop. It is just as fast as my 850 Pro in my desktop.

u/Hjstrater · 1 pointr/buildapc

The general consensus is that SSD sucks. Mostly due to a bait and switch when it came out.
[I went with a different one] (https://www.amazon.ca/240GB-CS1311-inch-SATA-550MB/dp/B019H3B3OW/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1464452465&sr=1-1&keywords=pny+1311)
Also the last gen corsair PSU's have a bad rap, EVGA's are solid tier 1 PSU's with good warranty's.

u/GREAT_SALAD · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah, the PNY CS1311 line is pretty good for the price. 120 GB for $40, or 240 GB for $60.

Right now I use the old 480 GB model, have been for almost a year, it's been fantastic.

u/chopdok · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Yeah. For example, You can get Asus M32 pre-built from Amazon for 399$. Its a rig with i5-6400, 8GB of RAM, 1TB 7200 HDD, and Windows 10 bundled. Also has basic keyboard and mouse. The case is kinda meh, but it has 80mm exhaust fan, and Skylake CPUs are very cool running anyway. A perfect fit for it would actually be a reference RX 480 - because of blower cooler design, it will not cause a buildup of heat inside the case, and thus the subpar airflow is not much of an issue.

So, thats 399$ for the rig, 199$ for RX 480 4GB version, and 40$ for a decent 600w power supply. You don't actually need 600w for that rig - but PSU is a good investment, watts don't get obsolete so you can re-use it in the future, and 500-400w units are not that much cheaper anyway. Thats 650$ in total for a rig with i5, 8GB of RAM, RX 480 - a perfect set-up for 1080p gaming.

You can then buy a VX2257-MHD - which is a 1080p-60Hz monitor with FreeSync. Thats another 150$.

So, we have a fully working gaming rig now, for 800$. Which means - there is still 100$ free in the budget. So, 240GB SSD for 65$ is an obvious choice at this point.

Total cost ~865$. For a rig that can max out pretty much any game at 1080p, with FreeSync.

This is more or less how you do it.

u/Titan721 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I know PNY updated the old 1211 line to 1311 and you might be able to find those for 60-70$ depending if it's on sale. Been pretty zippy for gaming, the only time I ever had issues was due to using intergrated graphics instead of a dedicated card. Here

u/excaka · 1 pointr/buildapc

awesome thank you, i was looking at the pny one as well;

Any thoughts on this one? if not i might just grab the sandisk, the one i have now has been great

u/awildjowi · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

i5 2500 w/ atx board (I'll have to check the model) and one of these?

u/Aarenas52 · 1 pointr/buildapc

also that ssd is quite expensive, this PNY is cheaper and for 2x the storage.

I dont think its worth paying more for an ssd. you wont notice a difference unless your bender.

u/kshucker · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

CPU - Intel i5 8600k $239.

CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO $30.

Motherboard - MSI Z370-A PRO $100.

RAM - Patriot Viper Elite Series 8GB DDR4 2400MHz $81.

SSD - PNY CS1311 240GB $70.

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB $44.

Video Card - Zotac GeForce GTX 1050-Ti 4GB mini $200.

Case - NZXT S340 Black $70.

Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA G3 80+ Gold 550W $70.

Total Price: $904. Throw in Windows for an additional $90-$100. It's really hard to get a decent PC to be under $1,000 nowadays with the price of RAM and GPU's :( I think this build will suit you best though. It's definitely not bad,

u/PhallusGreen · 0 pointsr/pathofexile

$50 for this

Probably cheaper options too. Depending on your laptop you could steal the pcie wlan slot and use the slot for a desktop ssd probably. Similar to this guy:
