I agree in general, but I will occasionally do an audit of what is being carried, and the weight, just to make sure things aren't being abused too badly. Of course, I also use the approximate number on occasion, so it's important to know about how much they weigh including equipment -- things like thinning ice or light coverings of pit traps set up to allow the kobolds or goblins they're against to run across safely, but the heavier PCs will crash through. Some PCs might be light enough to also cross, some definitely aren't.

I also occasionally have fights where it approximate total weight becomes relevant -- for example, a fight on a platform balanced on a pole. For that, I used multiples of 50 pounds to work out how badly tilted the platform got (with suicidal grappling kobolds trying to jump on the players), and if they over-weighted one side, the whole thing would have fallen. If it comes up again, I intend to just use Topple, giving each player a set of tokens equal to their weight.
